29th Sunday in Ordinary Time – Mission Sunday

October 20, this Sunday, we, Catholics, spread throughout the world, celebrate ‘the 93^rd Mission Sunday’. Usually, when we speak of a feast day, we tend to use the words – Today the Catholic Church celebrates such and such a feast. Such an expression makes us more of spectators than participants. This Sunday, however, all of us together can truly and meaningfully say, that we celebrate the ‘Mission Sunday’, since we participate in the Mission of the Church!

When we hear the word ‘Mission’, our minds naturally associate the word ‘Missionaries’. The term ‘missionaries’ brings to mind only priests and religious, whereas the term ‘mission’ includes all of us. Every one of us is ‘missioned’, namely, ‘sent’.

Pope Francis, for this year’s Mission Sunday has written a message with the title: “Baptised and Sent: The Church of Christ on Mission in the World.” It is interesting to note that the Pope has not used words like ‘Consecrated and Sent’ or ‘Ordained and Sent’. Those words would have made the ‘act of sending’, namely, ‘mission’, specific to Bishops, Priests and Religious.  But, by saying, ‘Baptised and Sent’, Pope Francis has made it clear that all the Baptised persons are Sent to carry out a mission in this world.

There is a beautiful saying attributed to Rabindranath Tagore, namely: “Every child comes with the message that God is not yet discouraged of man.” Every one of us coming into this world is a gift from God, a messenger sent by God, bringing a positive message to the world.

Cardinal Henry Newman, one of the five Blesseds canonized last Sunday, in one of his meditations, has said: “God has created me to do him some definite service. He has committed some work to me which he has not committed to another”.

Helen Keller emphasises our ‘mission’ in these words: “I am only one, but still I am one. I cannot do everything, but still I can do something; and because I cannot do everything, I will not refuse to do something that I can do.”

Stringing together the thoughts of Tagore, Newman and Keller, we can see that the very first ‘mission’ given to each one of us is to cherish ourselves and others as lovely gifts come into this world. Each of us is given a specific mission to fulfil in this world. No one else is assigned to do this mission. How great this world would turn out to be, if every child realises, that he or she is a unique gift sent into this world for a unique purpose! More than ever, our present day world needs positive reassuring messages like this, especially the message that ‘God is not yet discouraged of man’.

This year, the Mission Sunday has a special significance. In 1919, Pope Benedict XV wrote the Apostolic Letter ‘Maximum Illud’ to clarify the Catholic Church’s understanding of missions. During the Angelus Prayer on World Mission Sunday, October 22, 2017, Pope Francis publicly announced to the whole Church his intention to designate an Extraordinary Missionary Month for October 2019 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Pope Benedict XV's Apostolic Letter Maximum Illud.

In this letter, Pope Benedict XV has emphasised the universality of the Catholic Church and its Mission. Here are some extracts from this letter:

The Catholic Church is not an intruder in any country; nor is she alien to any people. It is only right, then, that those who exercise her sacred ministry should come from every nation, so that their countrymen can look to them for instruction in the law of God and leadership on the way to salvation. Wherever the local clergy exist in sufficient numbers, and are suitably trained and worthy of their holy vocation, there you can justly assume that the work of the missionary has been successful and that the Church has laid her foundations well. And if, after these foundations have been laid and these roots sunk, a persecution should be raised to dislodge her, there need be no reason to fear that she could not withstand the blow. (No.16)

Pope Benedict XV has expressed his pain on receiving reports that subtle forms of ‘colonization’ had taken place in some countries in the name of ‘mission’.

We have been deeply saddened by some recent accounts of missionary life, accounts that displayed more zeal for the profit of some particular nation than for the growth of the kingdom of God… This is not the way of the Catholic missionary, not if he is worthy of the name. No, the true missionary is always aware that he is not working as an agent of his country, but as an ambassador of Christ. And his conduct is such that it is perfectly obvious to anyone watching him that he represents a Faith that is alien to no nation on earth, since it embraces all who worship God in spirit and in truth… (No.20)

Pope Benedict XV has mentioned, in a special way, the missionary works undertaken by Religious Sisters:

We must not go further without saying something about the work that is being done by women, for since the very earliest days of the Church they have always been remarkable for their diligence and zeal in assisting the preachers of the Gospel. We want to single out here, and single out for Our highest praise, those many women who have vowed their virginity to God and have gone to pursue their vocation on the missions. (No.30)

Towards the end of this apostolic letter, the Pope has suggested three general ways in which a Catholic could assist the missionary effort, and missionaries themselves. The first is Prayer. The way Pope Benedict XV has combined Prayer and Missionary efforts, brings us to this Sunday’s Readings. The Pope makes a reference to the prayer made by Moses for his people. The first reading today (Exodus 17:8-13) talks of this incident. Here are the reflections made by Pope Benedict XV:

There are three general ways in which a Catholic can assist the missionary effort, and missionaries themselves constantly remind us of them. The first is within everyone’s capacity. This first means is prayer, prayer that God may grant the missions His merciful aid. We have already insisted that the toil of our missionaries would be futile and barren unless divine grace rendered it vital and fruitful… While the Israelites fought their battle with Amalek, Moses took his stand on a great hill and, lifting up his hands, implored God’s aid for his people. The teachers of the Gospel are manfully at work in the Lord’s vineyard, and it is the duty of all the faithful to follow the example of Moses and grant them the support of their prayers.

Dire needs bring people to their knees, as it brought Moses. Once the needs are fulfilled, do we forget prayer? The answer lies in the passages from Luke’s Gospel for today (Luke 18: 1-8) as well for 17th Sunday in Ordinary Time – Luke 11: 1-13. In both these passages Jesus talks about prayer not as a lofty philosophical treatise, but as simple life stories. Isn’t Christ telling us clearly that prayer should become part of our life and not a matter of intellectual discussion or an antidote used only during emergencies and dire needs? Prayer is the air we breathe, not an oxygen mask!

When I was thinking how best to combine Mission Sunday with the readings on prayer given to us today, the image of St Teresa of Child Jesus flashed across my mind. It is appropriate that the Extraordinary Missionary Month began on October 1, the Feast of St Teresa of Child Jesus, with the vespers in St Peter’s Basilica presided over by Pope Francis. St Teresa, along with St Francis Xavier, are declared as the Patrons of Mission Countries. One can easily understand why St Francis Xavier is given the honour as the Patron of Missions, since he travelled far and wide in quite a few Mission Countries and brought people to Christ and Christ to the people. St Teresa of Child Jesus did not leave the portals of her cloistered convent. All she did was to pray. Her prayers were equally powerful as the preaching of St Xavier in leading thousands of souls to Christ. Hence, Mission is to be seen both as proclamation as well as Prayer. In such a context, this Sunday’s readings on prayer make much sense for the Mission Sunday!

We pray the good Lord to enlighten our hearts and minds to make prayer an integral part of our lives and thus become Missionaries in our own right! We pray in a special way that each of us become ‘missionaries of hope’ for this world gripped in hopelessness!

மறைபரப்புப்பணி என்றதும், அது, ஆயர்கள், குருக்கள், துறவியருக்கென ஒதுக்கப்பட்ட பணி என்று எண்ணி, நம்மில் பலர் ஒதுங்கிவிடக்கூடும். ஆனால், இந்த நாளைக் குறிக்க, ஆங்கிலத்தில் பயன்படுத்தப்படும் Mission Sunday, அதாவது, “அனுப்பப்படும் ஞாயிறு” என்ற பதம், இந்நாளைக் குறித்த தெளிவுகளைத் தருகிறது.

இவ்வாண்டின் மறைபரப்புப்பணி ஞாயிறுக்கென்று திருத்தந்தை பிரான்சிஸ் அவர்கள் வெளியிட்டுள்ள செய்திக்கு, “Baptized and Sent” அதாவது, "திருமுழுக்கு பெற்று, அனுப்பப்பட்ட..." என்று தலைப்பிட்டுள்ளார். இச்செய்திக்கு, "அருள்பொழிவு பெற்று அனுப்பப்பட்ட..." என்று தலைப்பிட்டிருந்தால், அது, அருள்பொழிவு பெற்றுள்ள பணியாளர்களை குறிக்கும். ஆனால், மறைபரப்புப்பணி, திருமுழுக்கு பெற்ற அனைவருக்கும் உரியது என்பதை தெளிவுபடுத்த, இத்தலைப்பைத் தெரிவுசெய்துள்ளார் திருத்தந்தை.

He has committed some work to me which he has not committed to another”.

மனிதராய் பிறந்த நாம் ஒவ்வொருவரும், இவ்வுலகில் தனிப்பட்டதொரு பணியை ஆற்ற அனுப்பப்பட்டுள்ளோம் என்பதை, இந்த நாள் நமக்கு நினைவுறுத்துகிறது. "உலகில் பிறக்கும் ஒவ்வொரு குழந்தையும், இறைவனிடமிருந்து வரும் பரிசு. இந்தப் பரிசுப் பொருள் ஒவ்வொன்றும், 'இறைவன் மனிதரைக் குறித்து இன்னும் களைப்படையவில்லை' என்ற செய்தியுடன் இவ்வுலகை அடைகிறது" என்று சொன்னவர், இந்திய மகாக்கவி இரவீந்திரநாத் தாகூர். நாம் ஒவ்வொருவரும், இவ்வுலகிற்கு, இறைவன் தந்த பரிசாக, அவரது அன்புச் செய்தியைத் தாங்கிவரும் தூதராக, அனுப்பப்பட்டுள்ளோம். குறிப்பாக, மனிதர்களைக் குறித்து இறைவன் இன்னும் களைப்போ, சலிப்போ அடையவில்லை என்ற நம்பிக்கை செய்தியை உலகின் ஒவ்வொரு மூலையிலும் பரப்புவதற்கு நாம் அனுப்பப்பட்டுள்ளோம். நம்பிக்கை இழந்து தவிக்கும் இன்றைய உலகில், நம்பிக்கை என்ற மறையுண்மையை பரப்புவது, மிக மிக முக்கியமான, அவசரமானத் தேவை.

மறையுண்மைகளைப் பரப்புவதற்கு, கோவில்களும், பிரசங்க மேடைகளும் தேவையில்லை. கிறிஸ்துவையும், நம்பிக்கை நிறைந்த அவரது நற்செய்தியையும், வார்த்தைகளால் அல்ல; மாறாக, உண்மையான கிறிஸ்தவ வாழ்வால், மக்களுக்குக் கொண்டுசெல்ல, நாம் அழைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளோம்.

வார்த்தைகளால், பறைசாற்றப்படும் நற்செய்தியைக் காட்டிலும், வாழ்க்கையால் உணர்த்தப்படும் நற்செய்தி இன்னும் ஆழமான தாக்கங்களை உருவாக்கும் என்பதை நாம் அனைவரும் அறிவோம். வாழ்க்கையால் நற்செய்தியைப் பறைசாற்றிய பலரில், Dr. Albert Schweitzer அவர்களும் ஒருவர். அவர் வாழ்வில் நடந்த நிகழ்வு இது...

ஆல்பர்ட் அவர்கள், ஆப்ரிக்காவில், வறியோர் நடுவே மேற்கொண்ட அற்புதமான மருத்துவப் பணிகளுக்காகவும், அணு ஆய்வுகள் இவ்வுலகிற்குத் தேவையில்லை என்ற எண்ணத்தை உலகில் பரப்ப அவர் மேற்கொண்ட முயற்சிகளுக்காகவும் 1952ம் ஆண்டு உலக அமைதி நொபெல் விருது அவருக்கு வழங்கப்பட்டது. அவ்விருதைப் பெற்ற அடுத்த ஆண்டு, அவர், அமெரிக்காவின் சிக்காகோ நகருக்கு சென்றார். அவரை வரவேற்க பத்திரிக்கையாளர்கள், பெரும் தலைவர்கள் என்று, பலர், அவர் வரவிருந்த இரயில் நடைமேடையில் காத்திருந்தனர்.

ஆல்பர்ட் அவர்கள் இரயிலை விட்டு இறங்கியதும், கரவொலியும், காமிரா ஒளிவிளக்களும் அந்த இடத்தை நிறைத்தன. தன்னை சிறிது நேரம் மன்னிக்க வேண்டும் என்று வேண்டியபடி அந்தக் கூட்டத்தை விலக்கிக்கொண்டு சென்றார் ஆல்பர்ட். அந்த நடைமேடையில், இரு பெட்டிகளைச் சுமந்தபடி தவித்துக் கொண்டிருந்த வயதான கறுப்பின பெண்மணி ஒருவருக்கு உதவிசெய்து, அவரை ஒரு பேருந்தில் ஏற்றிவிட்டார். பின்னர், அவருக்காகக் காத்திருந்தவர்களிடம் திரும்பிவந்தார் ஆல்பர்ட். இதைக்கண்ட ஒரு பத்திரிகையாளர் மற்றொருவரிடம், "நான் இதுவரை கோவில்களில் மறையுரைகளைக் கேட்டிருக்கிறேன். இதுதான் முதல்முறையாக, ஒரு நடமாடும் மறையுரையை, என் கண்முன் காண்கிறேன்" என்று கூறினார்.

இவ்வாண்டு நாம் கொண்டாடும் மறைபரப்புப்பணி ஞாயிறு, கூடுதல் முக்கியத்துவம் பெற்றுள்ளது. கத்தோலிக்கத் திருஅவையின் மறைபரப்புப் பணியைக் குறித்து, திருத்தந்தை 15ம் பெனடிக்ட் அவர்கள் எழுதிய 'Maximum Illud' என்ற திருத்தூது மடல், 1919ம் ஆண்டு வெளியானது. அம்மடல் வெளியானதன் முதல் நூற்றாண்டைச் சிறப்பிக்கும் வண்ணம், திருத்தந்தை பிரான்சிஸ் அவர்கள், இவ்வாண்டு அக்டோபர் மாதத்தை 'சிறப்பான மறைபரப்புப்பணி மாதமாக'க் கொண்டாட அழைப்பு விடுத்தார்.

ஐரோப்பியக் கண்டத்திலிருந்து, ஆப்ரிக்க, ஆசிய கண்டங்களில் மறைபரப்புப் பணியாற்றச் சென்ற அருள்பணியாளர்களும், துறவியரும், அறிந்தும், அறியாமலும், ஐரோப்பிய கலாச்சாரத்தையும், காலனியக் கருத்தியல்களையும், கிறிஸ்தவ மதத்துடன் இணைத்து, மக்கள் நடுவே பரப்பிவந்தனர். இந்தப் போக்கைத் தருத்தியமைக்க, திருத்தந்தை 15ம் பெனடிக்ட் அவர்கள், 'Maximum illud' என்ற திருத்தூது மடலை வெளியிட்டார்.

மறைபரப்புப்பணி என்பது, மற்றொரு நாட்டை ஆக்ரமிக்கச் செல்லும் அரசியல் படையெடுப்பு அல்ல என்பதை, திருத்தந்தை, மிகத்தெளிவாக இம்மடலில் கூறினார்:

கத்தோலிக்கத் திருஅவை எந்த ஒரு நாட்டிலும் அத்துமீறி நுழைவதில்லை; எந்த மக்களிடமிருந்தும் வேறுபட்டு நிற்பதில்லை. (எண் 16)

ஒரு சில நாடுகளில், மறைபரப்புப் பணியாளர்கள், ஆர்வம் மிகுதியாலும், தவறான கண்ணோட்டத்தாலும், மறைபரப்புப் பணிகளை, அரசியல் வழிகளில் ஆற்றிவந்தனர் என்பதை அறிந்த திருத்தந்தை 15ம் பெனடிக்ட் அவர்கள், இம்மடல் வழியே, தன் வேதனையை வெளிப்படுத்தினார்:

ஒரு சில நாடுகளில் நடைபெறும் மறைபரப்புப்பணியில் இறையரசின் வளர்ச்சியைக் காட்டிலும், ஒரு சில நாடுகளின் இலாபத்தை வளர்க்கும் முயற்சிகள் மேற்கொள்ளப்பட்டுள்ளதைக் கண்டு, நான் வேதனையடைகிறேன்... இத்தகைய முயற்சிகளை மேற்கொள்வோர், மறைபரப்புப்பணியாளர்கள் என்ற பெயருக்கு அருகதை அற்றவர்கள். உண்மையான மறைபரப்புப்பணியாளர், தன் நாட்டின் தரகராக அல்ல, மாறாக, கிறிஸ்துவின் தூதராகச் செயலாற்றுபவர். இவ்வாறு, கத்தோலிக்கத் திருமறையை, ஐரோப்பிய, மேற்கத்தியக் கலாச்சாரத்திலிருந்து விடுவித்த்தோடு, இறையரசில் அனைத்து மக்களுக்கும், கலாச்சாரங்களுக்கும் இடம் உண்டு என்ற உண்மையை வெளிப்படுத்தி, கத்தோலிக்க மறைபரப்புப் பணிக்கு புதியதோர் இலக்கணத்தை வகுத்த 'Maximum illud' என்ற திருத்தூது மடலின் முதல் நூற்றாண்டை நாம் கொண்டாடுகிறோம்.

இத்திருத்தூது மடலின் இறுதிப்பகுதியில், திருத்தந்தை 15ம் பெனடிக்ட் அவர்கள், மறைபரப்புப்பணியில் அனைத்து கத்தோலிக்கர்களையும் மூன்று வழிகளில் ஈடுபடுமாறு அழைப்பு விடுத்துள்ளார். இந்த மூன்று வழிகளில் முதல் வழி, செபம். உலகெங்கும் நிகழும் மறைபரப்புப்பணிகளுக்கும், பணியாளர்களுக்கும் செபிப்பது, ஒவ்வொரு கத்தோலிக்கரும், அவரவர் இருந்த இடத்திலேயே ஆற்றக்கூடிய உதவி என்று திருத்தந்தை கூறியுள்ளார்.

மறைபரப்புப்பணியையும், செபத்தையும் இணைத்து திருத்தந்தை 15ம் பெனடிக்ட் அவர்கள் கூறியுள்ள கருத்து, இன்று நாம் கொண்டாடும் மறைபரப்புப்பணி ஞாயிறையும், இந்த ஞாயிறு வழங்கப்பட்டுள்ள வாசகங்களையும் இணைக்க உதவியாக உள்ளது. மறைபரப்புப்பணி ஞாயிறன்று செபத்தைப் பற்றிய வாசகங்கள் ஏன் என்று சிந்திக்கும்போது, மனதில் முதலில் தோன்றுவது, குழந்தை இயேசுவின் புனித தெரேசா.

திருத்தந்தை பிரான்சிஸ் அவர்கள் அறிவித்த சிறப்பான மறைபரப்புப்பணி மாதம், அக்டோபர் 1ம் தேதி, மறைபரப்புப்பணி நாடுகளின் பாதுகாவலர்களில் ஒருவரான புனித குழந்தை இயேசுவின் தெரேசா திருநாளன்று, வத்திக்கான் புனித பேதுரு பசிலிக்கா பேராலயத்தில், மாலை வழிபாட்டுடன் ஆரம்பமானது.

புனித குழந்தை இயேசுவின் தெரேசா, மறைபரப்புப்பணியாளர்களின் காவலர் என்ற பெருமைக்குரியவர். பல்லாயிரம் மைல்கள் பயணம் செய்து, கிறிஸ்துவை, பல கோடி மக்களுக்கு அறிமுகம் செய்த, புனித பிரான்சிஸ் சேவியரும், ஒரு மைல் கூட பயணம் செய்யாமல், தான் வாழ்ந்த துறவு மடத்தில், செபங்கள் செய்த, புனித தெரேசாவும், மறைபரப்புப் பணியாளர்களின் காவலர்கள் என்று, திருஅவை அறிவித்துள்ளது.

புனித சேவியர், தன் போதனைகளால், பல்லாயிரம் உள்ளங்களை இறைவனிடம் அழைத்து வந்ததுபோல், புனித தெரேசாவும், தன் செபங்களால், பல்லாயிரம் மனங்களை இறைவனிடம் கொணர்ந்தார். மறைபரப்புப் பணியில், இறைவனைப் பறைசாற்றுதல் எவ்வளவு முக்கியமோ, அதேபோல் இறைவனை நோக்கி எழுப்பப்படும் செபங்களும் முக்கியம் என்பதை நாம் ஆழமாக உணர, இந்த ஞாயிறன்று செபத்தைப் பற்றிய வாசகங்கள் நமக்குத் தரப்பட்டுள்ளன என்று எண்ணிப் பார்க்கலாம்.

செபத்தின் வல்லமையால் இஸ்ரயேல் மக்கள் போரில் வெற்றி கொள்வதை, விடுதலைப் பயண நூலிலிருந்து எடுக்கப்பட்ட இன்றைய முதல் வாசகம் (விடுதலைப் பயணம் 17:8-13) நமக்குக் கூறுகிறது. மத்தியக் கிழக்குப் பகுதியின் பல நாட்டினருக்கும், கனவிலும், நனவிலும் அச்சமூட்டுபவர்களாக இருந்தவர்கள், அமலேக்கியர்கள். அவர்களை எதிர்க்க யாருக்கும் துணிவு இல்லை. அவர்கள் இஸ்ராயேல் மக்களுக்கு எதிராகப் போர் தொடுக்க வந்தனர். இந்தச் செய்தியே இஸ்ராயேலரின் நம்பிக்கையைக் குலைத்து, அவர்களது தோல்வியை உறுதி செய்திருக்க வேண்டும். ஆனால், மோசேயின் செபம், அவர்களை வெற்றியடையச் செய்தது.

செபத்தின் வலிமையால், எதிர்வரும் சக்திகளை முறியடிக்கலாம் என்பதை விடுதலைப் பயண நூல் வாசகம் சொல்கிறது. மனம் தளராமல் செபிப்பதால், நீதியை நிலை நிறுத்த முடியும் என்பதை இன்றைய நற்செய்தி (லூக்கா நற்செய்தி 18:1-8) சொல்கிறது. தொடர்ந்து செபியுங்கள், தளராது செபியுங்கள், உடல் வலிமை, மன உறுதி இவை குலைந்தாலும், பிறர் உங்களைத் தாங்கிப் பிடிக்க, தொடர்ந்து செபியுங்கள்... என்பவை, இன்றைய வாசகங்கள் வழியே நமக்குத் தரப்பட்டுள்ள பாடங்கள். இவை, சவால்கள் நிறைந்த, அதே வேளை, வாழ்க்கைக்குத் தேவையானப் பாடங்கள்.

”அவர்கள் மனந்தளராமல் எப்பொழுதும் இறைவனிடம் மன்றாட வேண்டும் என்பதற்கு இயேசு ஓர் உவமை சொன்னார்” (லூக்கா 18: 1) என்று இன்றைய நற்செய்தி ஆரம்பமாகிறது. செபிப்பதை குறித்து, நற்செய்தியாளர் லூக்கா பதிவுசெய்துள்ள உவமைகளில், நள்ளிரவில் நண்பர் என்ற உவமையை (லூக்கா நற்செய்தி 11: 1-13) சில வாரங்களுக்கு முன் நம் ஞாயிறு வழிபாட்டில் சிந்தித்தோம். நேர்மையற்ற நடுவரும் கைம்பெண்ணும் என்ற உவமையை இன்று சிந்திக்கிறோம்.

'நள்ளிரவில் நண்பர்' என்ற உவமையில், மூடிய கதவைத் தொடர்ந்து தட்டிக்கொண்டிருந்த நமது நாயகன், ஒரே இடத்தில் நின்று, ஒரு சில மணித்துளிகளில் தன் தேவையை நிறைவேற்றிக் கொண்டார். லூக்கா 18ம் பிரிவில் நாம் சந்திக்கும் கைம்பெண்ணோ ஒரே நாளில், ஒரே இடத்தில் நின்றபடி தான் தேடியதைப் பெறவில்லை. பல நாட்கள், ஏன்? பல மாதங்கள், பல ஆண்டுகள், விடாமுயற்சியுடன், நீதிமன்றத்திற்கும், நடுவரின் வீட்டுக்கும், நடுவர் சென்ற அனைத்து இடங்களுக்கும் நடையாய் நடந்து சென்று, தான் தேடியதைப் பெற்றார் என்பதை உணரலாம். எவ்வளவு காலம் இந்தக் கைம்பெண் தன் முயற்சிகளை மேற்கொண்டார் என்பதை லூக்கா நற்செய்தி தெளிவாகச் சொல்லவில்லை. "நடுவரோ நெடுங்காலமாய் எதுவும் செய்ய விரும்பவில்லை" (லூக்கா 18:4) என்ற ஒரே ஒரு குறிப்பை மட்டுமே இந்த உவமையில் காண்கிறோம்.

ஏழைகளுக்கு நீதி கிடைக்க, அல்லது அவர்கள் விண்ணப்பித்த கோரிக்கைகளை நிறைவேற்ற நீதி மன்றங்களும், அரசு அலுவலகங்களும் எத்தனை காலம் எடுக்கின்றன என்பது நமக்குத் தெரிந்த கதைதானே! இவர்களில் பலர் எதிர்பார்த்து, காத்திருந்த தீர்ப்புகளோ, விண்ணப்பித்திருந்த கோரிக்கைகளோ அவர்களின் மரணத்திற்குப் பிறகு வந்தடைந்த செய்திகளையும் நாம் அவ்வப்போது கேட்டுவருகிறோம். பல ஆண்டுகள், நீதி மன்றங்களின் வாசல்களிலும், அரசு அலுவலகங்களின் வாசல்களிலும் தவமிருந்து தங்கள் வேண்டுதல்களின் பலன்களைக் காணவிழையும் பல கோடி ஆதரவற்ற ஏழை மக்களின் பிரதிநிதியாக இந்த உவமையின் நாயகியான கைம்பெண்ணை நாம் சந்திக்கிறோம். இந்த உவமையில் இயேசு நேர்மையற்ற நடுவரைப் பற்றி அதிகம் பேசியிருந்தாலும், மனம் தளராது, மீண்டும், மீண்டும், மீண்டும் நடுவரைச் சென்று சந்தித்த அந்தக் கைம்பெண்தான் இந்த உவமையின் நாயகி.

இறைவனுக்கு அஞ்சாமல், மனிதர்களை மதிக்காமல், ஊழலில் ஊறிப்போன நடுவரிடம், ஒரு கைம்பெண் நீதி பெறுகிறார். இலஞ்சம் கொடுத்துப் பெறவேண்டியதை, இலட்சிய வெறிகொண்டு பெறுகிறார். நல்லது கெட்டது என்பதையெல்லாம் பார்க்க மறுத்து, பாறையாகிப்போன நடுவரின் மனதை, தன் தொடர்ந்த வேண்டுதல் முயற்சிகளால் தகர்த்துவிடுகிறார் அந்தக் கைம்பெண்.

கடுகளவு நம்பிக்கை இருந்தால், அந்த நம்பிக்கையுடன் செபங்கள் எழுப்பப்பட்டால், மலைகள் பெயர்ந்துவிடும், மரங்கள் வேருடன் எடுக்கப்பட்டு, கடலில் நடப்படும். எரிக்கோவின் மதில்கள் இடிந்துவிழும், நம்மை எதிர்கொள்ளும் தீய சக்திகள் அடிபணியும், மனசாட்சியை மழுங்கடித்துள்ள நீதிபதிகளும் நீதி வழங்கமுடியும் என்ற நம்பிக்கையை நாம் இவ்வுலகில் பரப்ப அழைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளோம். நம்பிக்கையற்ற உலகில், நம்பிக்கையை வளர்ப்பது, நாம் ஆற்றக்கூடிய தலைசிறந்த மறைபரப்புப்பணி!
