Mass and Reflections: Who Do you Say I Am ?
‘Who am I?’ sounds like a philosophical question. Behind this question lurks diffidence, sometimes; desire at other times. Diffidence of not being sure who we really are and, more especially, who we seem to be to others. Desire for truth has made sages spend their entire life on the question: Who am I? The end of such a life-time search was Enlightenment!
This ‘Who am I?’ question is closely linked to ‘Who am I to others – my family, my friends, my colleagues…?’ In other words this question is similar to what we hear from the Gospel today… “Who do people say the Son of Man is?” (Matthew 16: 13-20)
I have heard that in government circles an exercise is taken up every day. What appears on the TV as evening news and what appear in the morning papers are collected, categorised, prioritized and given to the Prime Minister and the Chief Minister. A special officer is appointed to do this. This is only a hearsay information and you are welcome to take it with more than a pinch of salt. But, I guess such an exercise is in place in any organisation. We are aware of service agencies which provide ‘special information’ to the higher-ups!
This exercise is undertaken to feel the pulse of the people. More often, this exercise is undertaken with some trepidation. I guess the first question that confronts most of the political leaders in the morning will be: what do the people think of me and my government? In other words, who do people say that I am? With the emergence of a hitherto-unknown-entity called ‘Anna Hazare’, the leaders in India
Why did Jesus ask these questions? Was he worried about his popularity? Nope! There were other reasons. These questions of Jesus are not addressed to His disciples alone. Down the centuries they have been addressed to all of us. They have perennial value, in season and out of season.
Who do people say that Jesus is?
On quite many occasions, surveys have been undertaken to discover who has influenced the history of humankind. Almost in all of them, Jesus Christ has figured either in the first place or within the first three positions. Such has been his influence.
Who do people say that Jesus is?
People have said and, still, are saying so many things… good and bad, true and false, profession of faith and downright blasphemy! Ocean of opinions… Jesus is an inexhaustible source of inspiration. I am reminded of the famous passage “One Solitary Life”
One Solitary Life
He was born in an obscure village, a child of a peasant woman.
He worked in a carpenter shop until He was thirty,
Then became an itinerant preacher.
He never wrote a book.
He never held an office.
He never did one thing that usually accompanies greatness.
He had no credentials but Himself.
While still a young man, public opinion turned against Him.
His friends ran away.
One denied Him.
He went through the mockery of a trial.
He was nailed to a cross between two thieves.
His executioners gambled for His only piece of property - His coat.
He was laid in a borrowed grave.
Nineteen wide centuries have come and gone.
Today He is the centerpiece of the human race.
All the armies that ever marched,
All the navies that ever sailed,
All the parliaments that ever sat,
And all the kings that ever reigned put together,
have not affected the life of man upon this earth as powerfully as that
One Solitary Life.

Even though so much has been said about Jesus, He would still go beyond. An iconoclast himself, He would break any mould in which people place Him. Such is His beauty.
Who do you say that I am?
Hey, wake up… this question is personally addressed to you and me. Who do I say that Jesus is? All the answers I have been memorising since childhood may not be helpful. Neither is Jesus interested in my memorised answers. I am now asked to face this question seriously, personally.
More than a question, it is an invitation – an invitation to be convinced of the person of Jesus so that I can follow Him more closely. Most of us become speechless and, perhaps, embarrassed by such a direct question… such a confrontation… rather, ‘care-frontation’!
Here is a story of a world famous trapeze artist who was performing death defying stunts over a canyon exceedingly deep. In one such stunt, he was taking a wheelbarrow filled with rocks over the rope. He was blindfolded too! When he had completed this particular stunt, one of his ardent fans rushed to him, grabbed his hands and told him that he was surely the best in the world. The artist felt happy about these compliments. Then he asked his fan whether he believed in his capacity to do all these dare-devil stunts. “I believe you are the best, ever!” was his firm, affirmative answer. Then the trapeze artist told him, “Okay then, now I would like to perform the final adventure. I shall take this wheelbarrow once again over the rope. This time you sit in it.” (Story taken from “At Home With God” by Hedwig Lewis, S.J.) I presume that that ardent fan must have disappeared into thin air!
It is so easy to answer the ‘theoretical’ question: “Who do people say that I am?” But when Jesus turns around and says, “Who do YOU say that I am?” I feel like running away from this ‘care-frontation’. Am I ready to sit in the wheelbarrow and be transported by Jesus over the canyon… the canyon between reason and faith? Hm… yes, perhaps… well, you see… it’s actually like this… No clear answer seems to be forthcoming. Well, dear friends, there is no easy answer to this question. I wish there is an easy answer!.

Dear Young People,
In this celebration of the Eucharist we have reached the high point of this World Youth Day. Seeing you here, gathered in such great numbers from all parts of the world, fills my heart with joy. I think of the special love with which Jesus is looking upon you. Yes, the Lord loves you and calls you his friends (cf. Jn 15:15). He goes out to meet you and he wants to accompany you on your journey, to open the door to a life of fulfilment and to give you a share in his own closeness to the Father. For our part, we have come to know the immensity of his love and we want to respond generously to his love by sharing with others the joy we have received. Certainly, there are many people today who feel attracted by the figure of Christ and want to know him better. They realize that he is the answer to so many of our deepest concerns. But who is he really? How can someone who lived on this earth so long ago have anything in common with me today?
The Gospel we have just heard (cf. Mt 16:13-20) suggests two different ways of knowing Christ. The first is an impersonal knowledge, one based on current opinion. When Jesus asks: “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?”, the disciples answer: “Some say John the Baptist, but others Elijah, and still others Jeremiah or one of the prophets”. In other words, Christ is seen as yet another religious figure, like those who came before him. Then Jesus turns to the disciples and asks them: “But who do you say that I am?” Peter responds with what is the first confession of faith: “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God”. Faith is more than just empirical or historical facts; it is an ability to grasp the mystery of Christ’s person in all its depth.
Yet faith is not the result of human effort, of human reasoning, but rather a gift of God: “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father in heaven”. Faith starts with God, who opens his heart to us and invites us to share in his own divine life. Faith does not simply provide information about who Christ is; rather, it entails a personal relationship with Christ, a surrender of our whole person, with all our understanding, will and feelings, to God’s self-revelation. So Jesus’ question: “But who do you say that I am?”, is ultimately a challenge to the disciples to make a personal decision in his regard. Faith in Christ and discipleship are strictly interconnected.
And, since faith involves following the Master, it must become constantly stronger, deeper and more mature, to the extent that it leads to a closer and more intense relationship with Jesus. Peter and the other disciples also had to grow in this way, until their encounter with the Risen Lord opened their eyes to the fullness of faith.
Dear young people, today Christ is asking you the same question which he asked the Apostles: “Who do you say that I am?” Respond to him with generosity and courage, as befits young hearts like your own. Say to him: “Jesus, I know that you are the Son of God, who have given your life for me. I want to follow you faithfully and to be led by your word. You know me and you love me. I place my trust in you and I put my whole life into your hands. I want you to be the power that strengthens me and the joy which never leaves me”.
Jesus’ responds to Peter’s confession by speaking of the Church: “And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my Church”. What do these words mean? Jesus builds the Church on the rock of the faith of Peter, who confesses that Christ is God.
The Church, then, is not simply a human institution, like any other. Rather, she is closely joined to God. Christ himself speaks of her as “his” Church. Christ cannot be separated from the Church any more than the head can be separated from the body (cf. 1 Cor 12:12). The Church does not draw her life from herself, but from the Lord.
Dear young friends, as the Successor of Peter, let me urge you to strengthen this faith which has been handed down to us from the time of the Apostles. Make Christ, the Son of God, the centre of your life. But let me also remind you that following Jesus in faith means walking at his side in the communion of the Church. We cannot follow Jesus on our own. Anyone who would be tempted to do so “on his own”, or to approach the life of faith with kind of individualism so prevalent today, will risk never truly encountering Jesus, or will end up following a counterfeit Jesus.
Having faith means drawing support from the faith of your brothers and sisters, even as your own faith serves as a support for the faith of others. I ask you, dear friends, to love the Church which brought you to birth in the faith, which helped you to grow in the knowledge of Christ and which led you to discover the beauty of his love. Growing in friendship with Christ necessarily means recognizing the importance of joyful participation in the life of your parishes, communities and movements, as well as the celebration of Sunday Mass, frequent reception of the sacrament of Reconciliation, and the cultivation of personal prayer and meditation on God’s word.
Friendship with Jesus will also lead you to bear witness to the faith wherever you are, even when it meets with rejection or indifference. We cannot encounter Christ and not want to make him known to others. So do not keep Christ to yourselves! Share with others the joy of your faith. The world needs the witness of your faith, it surely needs God. I think that the presence here of so many young people, coming from all over the world, is a wonderful proof of the fruitfulness of Christ’s command to the Church: “Go into all the world and proclaim the Gospel to the whole creation” (Mk 16:15). You too have been given the extraordinary task of being disciples and missionaries of Christ in other lands and countries filled with young people who are looking for something greater and, because their heart tells them that more authentic values do exist, they do not let themselves be seduced by the empty promises of a lifestyle which has no room for God.
Dear young people, I pray for you with heartfelt affection. I commend all of you to the Virgin கி.மு. நான்காம் நூற்றாண்டில் வாழ்ந்த டயோஜீனஸ் என்ற கிரேக்க மேதை ஏதென்ஸ் நகர வீதிகளில் பகல் நேரத்தில் ஒரு விளக்கை வைத்துக் கொண்டு அலையும் போது, மக்கள் அவரிடம் "என்ன தேடுகிறீர்கள்?" என்று கேட்டால், "நல்ல மனிதர்களைத் தேடுகிறேன்." என்று சொல்வாராம். மனிதர், மனிதரைத் தேடிய கதைகள் எத்தனையோ நமக்கெல்லாம் தெரியும். ஒவ்வொருவரும் வாழ்க்கையில் நம்மை நாமே தேடிய அனுபவங்களும் நம் எல்லாருக்கும் உண்டு. நம்மை நாமே தேடும் நேரங்களில் பல கேள்விகள் நம் உள்ளத்தில் எழுந்திருக்கும். அவைகளில் மிக முக்கியமாக நம் மனதில் எழுந்த ஒரு கேள்வி... 'நான் யார்?' என்ற கேள்வி.
‘நான் யார்’ என்ற இந்தக் கேள்விக்குள் பல கேள்விகள் உள்ளன... என் குடும்பத்தினருக்கு நான் யார்? என் நண்பருக்கு நான் யார்? என் பணியிடத்தில், நான் வாழும் சமுதாயத்தில் நான் யார்? இவர்களுக்கெல்லாம் நான் என்னவாகத் தெரிகிறேன்? அடிப்படையில், மற்றவர்கள் என்னைப் பற்றி என்ன நினைக்கிறார்கள்? என்பது நம் வாழ்வின் ஒரு முக்கிய கேள்வியாக இருந்து வருகிறது.
இயேசுவுக்கும் இந்தக் கேள்வி எழுந்தது. இந்த அடிப்படைக் கேள்வியை மையப்படுத்தி இன்றைய நற்செய்தி அமைந்துள்ளது. இந்த நற்செய்தியின் இரு வாக்கியங்கள், இயேசுவின் இரு கேள்விகள் நம் சிந்தனைகளை இன்று நிறைக்கட்டும்.
"நான் யார் என்று மக்கள் சொல்கிறார்கள்?"
"நான் யார் என்று நீங்கள் சொல்கிறீர்கள்?"
நான் கல்லூரியில் பணி புரிந்த போது, அரசு அதிகாரிகள் சிலருடன் பழகும் வாய்ப்பு கிடைத்தது. அவர்கள் அவ்வப்போது சொன்ன ஒரு சில தகவல்கள் இப்போது என் நினைவுக்கு வருகின்றன. ஒவ்வொரு நாள் காலையிலும், அன்று காலை செய்தித் தாள்களில் வந்த தகவல்களையும், முந்திய நாள் இரவு தொலைக்காட்சி வழியே வந்த தகவல்களையும், சேகரித்து, வகைப்படுத்தி, பட்டியலிட்டு, பிரதம மந்திரி அல்லது முதல் அமைச்சர் இவர்களிடம் கொடுப்பதற்கென ஓர் அரசு அதிகாரி நியமிக்கப்பட்டிருக்கிறார். இந்தத் தகவல்களைப் பட்டியலிடுவதன் முக்கிய நோக்கம்... நாட்டு நடப்பு பற்றி தெரிந்து கொள்வது ஒரு புறமிருக்க, நாட்டில் தங்களைப் பற்றிய, தங்கள் ஆட்சி பற்றிய எண்ணங்கள் என்ன என்பதைத் தெரிந்து கொள்வதே இந்த முயற்சியின் முக்கிய நோக்கம்.
ஒவ்வொரு நாள் காலையிலும் இத்தலைவர்களின் நினைவை, மனதை ஆக்ரமிக்கும் அந்த கேள்வி: "நான் யார் என்று மக்கள் சொல்கிறார்கள்?" இந்தக் கேள்வியின் பின்னணியில் பயம், சந்தேகம் இவைகள் தாம் இந்தக் கேள்வியை இவர்களிடம் எழுப்புகின்றன. மக்களை முன் நிறுத்தி, மக்களை மையப்படுத்தி, அவர்கள் நலனையே நாள் முழுவதும் சிந்தித்து, அதன்படி செயல்படும் தலைவனுக்கோ, தலைவிக்கோ இந்தக் கேள்வி பயத்தை உண்டாக்கத் தேவையில்லை...
இந்தியத் தலைவர்கள் யார்? அவர்களது உண்மை உருவம் என்ன? அவர்களைப் பற்றி மக்கள் என்ன சொல்கிறார்கள்? என்பதை வெளிச்சம் போட்டு காட்ட Anna Hazare மேற்கொண்டுள்ள முயற்சிகள் உலகத்தின் கவனத்தை இந்தியாவின் மீது திருப்பியுள்ளது. Anna Hazareன் செயல்பாடுகளில், அரசியல் பல வடிவங்களில் கலந்திருந்தாலும், போலி முகமூடிகளை அணிந்து வாழும் நம் நாட்டுத் தலைவர்கள் திருந்தி வாழ இந்த முயற்சி ஒரு நல்ல ஆரம்பமாக இருக்க வேண்டும் என்று இறைவனை வேண்டுவோம். ஆகஸ்ட் 21, இந்த ஞாயிறை இந்தியத் திருச்சபை நீதி ஞாயிறென்று கடைபிடிக்கின்றது. ஊழல்கள் அற்ற, நீதி நிறைந்த ஓர் இந்திய நாட்டை உருவாக்க மக்கள் மத்தியிலிருந்து இன்னும் பல முயற்சிகள் எழ வேண்டும் என்றும் இறைவனிடம் சிறப்பாக வேண்டுவோம்.
"நான் யார் என்று மக்கள் சொல்கிறார்கள்?" இயேசு இந்தக் கேள்வியை அவர் காலத்து மக்களுக்கு மட்டுமல்ல. இன்றும் கேட்கிறார். மக்கள் இயேசுவைப் பற்றி என்ன சொல்கிறார்கள்? இருபது நூற்றாண்டுகளாய் மனித வரலாற்றில் அதிகமான, ஆழமான தாக்கங்களை ஏற்படுத்தியவர்களைக் குறித்து கருத்துக் கணிப்புகள் பல நடந்துள்ளன. ஏறக்குறைய எல்லாக் கருத்துக் கணிப்புகளிலும் இயேசுவின் பெயர் முதலிடமாக, அல்லது, முதல் மூன்று இடங்களில் ஒன்றாக இருந்துள்ளது. மனித வரலாற்றை இத்தனை நீண்ட காலம்... ஈராயிரம் ஆண்டுகள்..., இத்தனை ஆழமாகப் பாதித்துள்ளவர்கள் ஒரு சிலரே...
மக்கள் இயேசுவைப் பற்றி என்ன சொல்கிறார்கள்? என்னென்னவோ சொல்லி விட்டார்கள். இன்னும் சொல்லி வருகிறார்கள்... நல்லதும், பொல்லாததும்... உண்மையும், பொய்யும்... விசுவாசச் சத்தியங்களும், கற்பனைக் கதைகளும்... அளவுக்கதிகமாகவே சொல்லி விட்டார்கள். ஆனால், இவ்வளவு சொல்லியும் இயேசுவைப் பற்றி முழுமையாக நம் மனித குலம் சொல்லிவிட்டதா என்று கேட்டால், இல்லை என்று தான் சொல்ல வேண்டும். இயேசு இவர்தான், இப்படித்தான் என்று சொல்வது மிகக் கடினம். இலக்கணங்களை, வரையறைகளை, வேலிகளை உடைப்பது இயேசுவின் இலக்கணம். இயேசுவின் அழகு.
"நான் யார் என்று நீங்கள் சொல்கிறீர்கள்?"
ஹலோ, உங்களைத் தான்... என்னையும் தான்... இந்தக் கேள்வி நமக்குத் தான்...
"நான் யார் என்று மக்கள் சொல்கிறார்கள்?" என்ற கேள்விக்கு சிறு வயது முதல் அம்மாவிடம், அப்பாவிடம், ஆசிரியர்களிடம் நான் பயின்றவைகளை, மனப்பாடம் செய்தவைகளை வைத்து, பதில்களைச் சொல்லிவிடலாம்.
ஆனால், இந்த இரண்டாவது கேள்விக்கு அப்படி எளிதாகப் பதில் சொல்லிவிட முடியாது.
நான் படித்தவைகளை விட, பட்டுணர்ந்தவைகளே இந்தக் கேள்விக்குப் பதிலாக வேண்டும். நான் மனப்பாடம் செய்தவைகளை விட, மனதார நம்புகிறவைகளே இந்தக் கேள்விக்கான பதிலைத் தர முடியும்.
இந்தக் கேள்வி நம்மில் பலருக்கு சங்கடங்களை உருவாக்கலாம். "என்ன இது... திடீர்னு இயேசு முகத்துல அறைஞ்சா மாதிரி இப்படி ஒரு கேள்வியைக் கேட்டுட்டார்... எனக்கு அப்படியே, வெலவெலத்துப் போச்சு... என்ன சொல்றதுன்னே தெரியல..." இப்படி நீங்களும் நானும் உணர்ந்தால், அது ஒரு நல்ல ஆரம்பம். இயேசுவின் இந்தக் கேள்வி வெறும் கேள்வி அல்ல. ஓர் அழைப்பு. “என்னைப்பற்றிப் புரிந்து கொள்… என்னைப் பற்றிக்கொள். என்னைப் பின்பற்றி வா” என்று பலவழிகளில் இயேசு விடுக்கும் அழைப்பு.
எனக்கு ஒரு கதை நினைவுக்கு வருகிறது.
கயிற்றின் மேல் சாகசங்கள் செய்யும் கழைக்கூத்துக் கலைஞர்களைப் பார்த்திருப்போம். இவர்களில் ஒரு சிலர் கயிற்றின் மேல் நடந்து மட்டும் சாகசங்கள் செய்வதில்லை. கயிற்றின் மேல் படுத்தல், சாப்பிடுதல், சைக்கிள் சவாரி செய்தல்... இப்படி அவர்களது சாகசங்கள் பல விதமாய் இருக்கும்.
உலகப் புகழ் பெற்ற ஒரு கழைக்கூத்துக் கலைஞர் இரு அடுக்கு மாடிகளுக்கிடையே கயிறு கட்டி சாகசங்கள் செய்து கொண்டிருந்தார். அவரது சாகசங்களில் ஒன்று... மணல் மூட்டை வைக்கப்பட்ட ஒரு கை வண்டியைத் தள்ளிக் கொண்டு அந்தக் கயிற்றில் நடப்பது.
அதையும் அற்புதமாக அவர் முடித்த போது, இரசிகர் ஒருவர் ஓடி வந்து அவரது கைகளை இறுகப் பற்றிக் கொண்டு, "அற்புதம், அபாரம். நீங்கள் உலகிலேயே மிகச் சிறந்த கலைஞர்." என்று அடுக்கிக் கொண்டே போனார். "என் திறமையில் அவ்வளவு ஈடுபாடு, நம்பிக்கை உள்ளதா?" என்று அந்தக் கலைஞர் கேட்டார்.
"என்ன, அப்படி சொல்லிவிட்டீர்கள்... உங்கள் சாகசங்களைப் பற்றி நான் கேள்வி பட்ட போது, நான் அவைகளை நம்பவில்லை. இப்போது நானே நேரில் அவைகளைக் கண்டு விட்டேன். இனி உங்களைப் பற்றி மற்றவர்களிடம் சொல்வதுதான் என் முக்கிய வேலை." என்று பரவசப்பட்டுச் சொன்னார்.
"மற்றவர்களிடம் என்னைப் பற்றிச் சொல்வது இருக்கட்டும். இப்போது ஓர் உதவி." என்று கேட்டார் அந்தக் கலைஞர்.
"உம்.. சொல்லுங்கள்." என்று அவர் ஆர்வமாய், அதிசயமாய் சொன்னார்.
"நான் மீண்டும் ஒரு முறை அந்தக் கயிற்றில் தள்ளு வண்டியோடு நடக்கப் போகிறேன். இந்த முறை, அந்த மணல் மூட்டைக்குப் பதில், நீங்கள் அந்த வண்டியில் அமர்ந்து கொள்ளுங்கள்... பத்திரமாக உங்களைக் கொண்டு செல்கிறேன். பார்க்கும் மக்கள் இதை இன்னும் அதிகம் ரசிப்பார்கள். வாருங்கள்..." என்று அழைத்தார். அந்த இரசிகர், இருந்த இடம் தெரியாமல் காற்றோடு கரைந்தார்.
அந்தக் கழைக்கூத்துக் கலைஞரைப் பற்றி கேள்விப்பட்டு, அவரது சாகசங்களை நேரில் பார்த்து வியந்த அந்த இளைஞர் அந்த அற்புதக் கலைஞரின் அருமை பெருமைகளை உலகறியச் செய்ய விழைந்தார். ஆனால், அதே கழைக்கூத்துக் கலைஞர் தன் திறமையில் பங்கேற்க அந்த இளைஞரை அழைத்தபோது, அவர் காற்றோடு மறைந்து விட்டார்.
இயேசுவைப் பற்றி தெரிந்து கொள்ள, அவரைக் கண்டு பிரமித்துப் போக, அவரை ரசிக்க கேள்வி அறிவு, புத்தக அறிவு போதும். அந்த பிரமிப்பில் நாம் இருக்கும் போது, இயேசு நம்மிடம் "நான் யார் என்று மக்கள் சொல்கிறார்கள்?" என்று கேட்டால், நம் பதில்கள் ஆர்வமாய் ஒலிக்கும். ஆனால், அந்த பிரமிப்பு, இரசிப்பு இவைகளோடு மட்டும் நாம் இயேசுவை உலகறிய பறைசாற்றக் கிளம்பினால், புனித பவுல் சொல்வது போல், "ஒலிக்கும் வெண்கலமும், ஓசையிடும் தாளமும் போலாவோம்."
எனவே, இயேசு நம்மை அடுத்த நிலைக்கு வருவதற்கு கொடுக்கும் அழைப்பு தான் "நான் யார் என்று நீங்கள் சொல்கிறீர்கள்?" என்ற கேள்வியாக எழுகிறது. இது சாதாரண அழைப்பு அல்ல. அவரை நம்பி அவரோடு நடக்க, அவரைப் போல் நடக்க, இரவானாலும், புயலானாலும் துணிந்து நடக்க அவர் தரும் ஓர் அழைப்பு. வாழ்வில் மாற்றங்களை ஏற்படுத்த கொடுக்கப்படும் இந்த அழைப்பிற்கு, மனதின் ஆழத்திலிருந்து வரட்டும் நம் பதில்கள்.
கடந்த நான்கு நாட்கள் பல லட்சம் இளையோர் ஸ்பெயின் நாட்டின் மத்ரித் நகரில் திருத்தந்தையுடன் உலக இளையோர் நாள் கொண்டாட்டங்களில் ஈடுபட்டிருந்தனர். இயேசு கிறிஸ்து யார் என்பதை இவ்விளையோரும் இன்னும் உலகின் கோடான கோடி இளையோரும் தங்கள் சொந்த, தனிப்பட்ட வாழ்வில் கண்டுணர வேண்டுமென்றும், தங்கள் அனுபவத்தில் உணர்ந்த அந்த இயேசுவை உலகறியச் செய்வதற்கு இவ்விளையோர் கருவிகளாக மாற வேண்டுமென்றும் சிறப்பாக வேண்டிக்கொள்வோம்.
அன்பர்களே, இந்த ஞாயிறு சிந்தனையின் இறுதியில் நான் சொல்ல விரும்புவது இதுதான். நம் நண்பர்கள் மத்தியிலோ, நமது குடும்பங்களிலோ வெறும் உதட்டளவு வார்த்தைப் பரிமாற்றங்கள் இல்லாமல், உள்ளத்தின் ஆழத்திலிருந்து வரும் பரிமாற்றங்கள் அதிகமாக வேண்டும். இந்த வகைப் பரிமாற்றங்களிலிருந்து நாம் யார் என்பது பற்றி இன்னும் அதிகத் தெளிவு கிடைக்கும். அதேபோல் நமது பரிமாற்றங்களில் நாம் நம்புகின்ற கடவுளைப் பற்றியும் பேசுவோம். நம்மைப் பற்றியும், கடவுளைப் பற்றியும், இயேசுவைப் பற்றியும் தெளிவும், ஆழமும் கிடைக்கும் போது, அந்த எண்ணங்கள், உணர்வுகள் நமது வாழ்க்கையைக் கட்டாயம் மாற்றும். இந்தப் புதுமை நமக்கெல்லாம் நடக்கவேண்டும் என்று வேண்டிக்கொள்வோம்.
