33^rd Sunday in Ordinary Time – World Day of the Poor

November 17, this Sunday, is the International Students Day. This day commemorates the anniversary of the 1939 Nazi storming of the University of Prague, since the students went on demonstrations against the German occupation of Czechoslovakia. The Nazis rounded up the students, murdered nine student leaders and sent over 1,200 students to concentration camps.

World Prematurity Day is also observed on November 17 each year to raise awareness of preterm birth and the concerns of preterm babies and their families worldwide. Approximately 15 million babies are born preterm each year, accounting for about one in 10 of all babies born worldwide. On November 16, we observed the International Day for Tolerance. On November 13, it was the World Kindness Day. Universal Children’s Day is celebrated annually on 20th November.

The United Nations Organization, as well as, many other world organizations commemorate World / International / Universal Days to draw our attention to some special aspects of the world as well as the human family.

The Catholic Church, for its part, has introduced quite a few World Days in the Liturgical calendar of the year. January 1 – the New Year Day as the World Day of Peace, February 11 – The Feast of our Lady of Lourdes as the World Day of the Sick, September 1 – The World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation… are some of the World Days observed in the Catholic Church. Apart from these, we also have the World Youth Days and the World Day of Prayer for Vocations etc.

At the end of the ‘Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy’, which was celebrated in 2016, Pope Francis introduced the World Day of the Poor as part of the liturgical calendar. Every year, the 33^rd Sunday of Ordinary Time is celebrated as the World Day of the Poor.

For the III World Day of the Poor, which is celebrated on November 17, this Sunday, Pope Francis has published a message with the title: “The hope of the poor will not perish for ever” (Ps 9:19) taken from Psalm 9. In his message, Pope Francis compares the time when Psalm 9 was composed with our present time and also reminds us about the ‘day of the Lord’. Here are a few excerpts from this message:

“The Psalm was composed at a time of great economic development that, as often happens, also led to serious social imbalances. The inequitable distribution of wealth created a significant number of poor people, whose condition appeared all the more dramatic in comparison with the wealth attained by a privileged few. The Psalmist, observing the situation, paints a picture as realistic as it is true.

It was a time when arrogant and ungodly people hounded the poor, seeking to take possession even of what little they had, and to reduce them to bondage. The situation is not much different today. The economic crisis has not prevented large groups of people from accumulating fortunes that often appear all the more incongruous when, in the streets of our cities, we daily encounter great numbers of the poor who lack the bare necessities of life and are at times harassed and exploited... The centuries pass, but the condition of rich and poor remains constant, as if history has taught us nothing. The words of the Psalm, then, are not about the past, but about our present, as it stands before God’s judgement. (No. 1)

We can build any number of walls and close our doors in the vain effort to feel secure in our wealth, at the expense of those left outside. It will not be that way for ever. The “day of the Lord”, as described by the prophets (cf. Am 5:18; Is 2:2-5), will destroy the barriers created between nations and replace the arrogance of the few with the solidarity of many. The reference to the ‘day of the Lord’ by Pope Francis, brings us to reflect on the theme of today’s Gospel – Luke 21:5-19.

We have come to the end of another liturgical year. Next Sunday we shall celebrate the Feast of Christ the King and the week after, we begin a new liturgical year with Advent. When we began this liturgical year last November, we were given a passage from Luke 21 (verses 25-28; 34-36). As we close the liturgical year, we are given a passage, again, from Luke 21 (verses 5-19). Both talk of the end of the world… Is this the best way to begin and end a liturgical year? Talk of the frightening end? I am not a great fan of the frightening part of the end, as most Hollywood films revel in. But, I do believe that the thought of our end, whether imminent or far off, can surely put things in perspective. If only all of us can be convinced, that we are all pilgrims on earth, so many problems would be solved.

Today’s Gospel begins with Jesus standing in Jerusalem temple and predicting how that magnificent structure would be razed to the ground. It requires lots of courage for anyone to do this – namely, stand right in the middle of the holiest spot for the Israelites and tell them that it would be totally destroyed. One can easily assign this courage (call it bravado?) of Jesus to his divine quality of knowing past-present-and-future. But, we can also see it as part of our way of ‘predicting the future’.

Most of us do have premonitions of our own, or, someone else’s life, from the way that life shapes up. The same premonition can be had for an institution too, looking at the way it is run. Jesus, from the age of twelve, must have been intrigued by the commercialism that surrounded the temple of Jerusalem. At the age of 33, he felt he had had enough of that and he tried his best to cleanse the temple (Luke 19: 45-46). He probably saw that the temple was returning to its commercial ways just a few days later.

Here are the opening lines of today’s Gospel: Some of his disciples were remarking about how the temple was adorned with beautiful stones and with gifts dedicated to God. But Jesus said, “As for what you see here, the time will come when not one stone will be left on another; every one of them will be thrown down.” (Luke 21:5-6)

This is how I would like to rephrase the thoughts / words of Jesus: “You seem to admire these beautiful stones and the ‘gifts’ adorning this temple. These very same things are going to draw the envious eyes of other nations. The wealth that surrounds this temple is going to be its undoing. It would be destroyed.” It does not require a great prophetic quality to predict what would happen to an individual or an institution if only we can observe closely. Simple logic would be sufficient!

This warning given by Jesus brings to mind the present day Churches, Temples and Mosques that pride themselves as the largest, richest, greatest, tallest… etc. The more wealth is accumulated in places of worship, the greater they have to rely on fortress-like walls. Instead of relying on stone walls, if all the places of worship relied on the community of worshippers, religion will become more humane and, hence, divine!

Jesus does not stop with his prediction of the temple alone. He goes on to predict what would happen to the world and, more especially, what would become of those who follow him. He begins with those who would mislead people with ‘divine revelations’, those who would exploit the anxiety of people about the end of the world. Didn’t we hear enough of these ‘revelations’ at the turn of this millennium? The list of things Jesus had predicted almost read like our headlines today… “Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be great earthquakes, famines and pestilences in various places, and fearful events and great signs from heaven.” (Lk 21: 10-11)

In the following lines (12-19) Jesus turns his attention to his disciples. Jesus calls a spade, a spade. If his aim was to retain a crowd around him all the time, he would not have revealed such bitter truths… the price to be paid for following him. Betrayal from one's own family, murdering courageous witnesses in order to silence them... Once again, what Jesus lists out here seems to be happening today. Places of worship are becoming targets of fundamentalists more frequently.

Out of all these 15 verses given in today’s Gospel, only three verses give hopeful, soothing words. “For I will give you words and wisdom that none of your adversaries will be able to resist or contradict… not a hair of your head will perish. Stand firm, and you will win life.” (Luke 21: 15, 18-19). The ‘life’ Jesus is talking of, is the ‘afterlife’ we mentioned in our last Sunday’s reflection.

In our last week’s reflection, we spoke about Randy Pausch, the professor who passed away in his forties. We had also mentioned about ‘The Last Lecture’ he had given to his university staff and students. He gave another talk to his students on their graduation day. Here is the gist of what he said: “Pursue your dreams with passion. Before you begin pursuing, make sure what type of dreams you are chasing. Let them not be dreams to acquire more money. Those dreams will not give you satisfaction, since there would always be someone who would have more money than you. Rather, follow dreams of building up human relationships.”

Relationships will save us, not money or possessions. This is exactly what Jesus is saying in today’s Gospel. This is the assurance that Jesus himself experienced in his personal life. But for his personal relationship with his Father, he would have been crushed by the forces of opposition that surrounded him. As we go through life, especially the toughest phases of our life, we can be assured that God will be with us, Christ will be with us.

பொதுக்காலம் - 33ம் ஞாயிறு – வறியோர் உலக நாள்

நவம்பர் 17ம் தேதி, இஞ்ஞாயிறன்று, உலகின் பல நாடுகளில், அனைத்துலக மாணவர் நாள் சிறப்பிக்கப்படுகிறது. இதே நவம்பர் 17ம் தேதி, குறைப்பிரசவத்தில் பிறக்கும் குழந்தைகளையும், அக்குழந்தைகளின் குடும்பத்தினரையும் எண்ணிப்பார்க்க, குறைப்பிரசவ உலக நாள் (World Prematurity Day) கடைபிடிக்கப்படுகிறது. நவம்பர் 16ம் தேதி, அனைத்துலக சகிப்புத்தன்மை நாள் சிறப்பிக்கப்பட்டது. நவம்பர் 13ம் தேதி, உலக கருணை நாள் (World Kindness Day) கொண்டாடப்பட்டது. நவம்பர் 14ம் தேதி, இந்தியாவில், குழந்தைகள் நாள் கொண்டாடப்பட்டதைத் தொடர்ந்து, நவம்பர் 20ம் தேதி, உலகின் பல நாடுகளில் அனைத்துலக குழந்தைகள் நாள் கொண்டாடப்படும்.

மனித குலத்தின் ஒரு பிரிவினர் மீதோ, மனிதர்கள் அனைவரும் பின்பற்ற வேண்டிய ஒரு கொள்கையின் மீதோ, உலகினரின் கவனத்தைத் திருப்ப, ஐ.நா.அவையும், வேறு உலக அமைப்புக்களும், ஒவ்வோர் ஆண்டும், பல உலக நாள்களை உருவாக்கியுள்ளன. அதேவண்ணம், கத்தோலிக்கத் திருஅவை, சில உலக நாள்களை உருவாக்கியுள்ளது.

சனவரி 1, புத்தாண்டு நாளன்று, உலக அமைதி நாள், பிப்ரவரி 11, லூர்து நகர் அன்னை மரியாவின் திருநாளன்று, உலக நோயாளர் நாள், செப்டம்பர் 1ம் தேதி, படைப்பைப் பேணி காப்பதற்கென செபிக்கும் உலக நாள், உயிர்ப்புக் காலத்தில் வரும் நல்லாயன் ஞாயிறன்று, இறையழைத்தலுக்கென செபிக்கும் உலக நாள் என்று, தாய் திருஅவை, பல உலக நாள்களை உருவாக்கியுள்ளது. இந்த வரிசையில், 2016ம் ஆண்டு நாம் சிறப்பித்த இரக்கத்தின் சிறப்பு யூபிலி ஆண்டில், வறியோர் உலக நாளை, திருத்தந்தை பிரான்சிஸ் அவர்கள் உருவாக்கினார்.

'யூபிலி' கொண்டாட்டங்கள் ஏன் உருவாக்கப்பட்டன என்ற கேள்விக்கு விவிலியத்தில், விடை தேடும்போது, "ஏழைகளுக்கு நற்செய்தி அறிவிப்பது, சிறைப்பட்டோர் விடுதலை அடைவது, பார்வையற்றோர் பார்வை பெறுவது, ஒடுக்கப்பட்டோரை விடுதலை செய்து அனுப்புவது" (லூக்கா 4:18-19) ஆகியவை, அருள்தரும் 'யூபிலி' ஆண்டில் நிகழவேண்டிய அற்புதமானப் பணிகள் என்று, இயேசு அறிவித்ததை, நாம், லூக்கா நற்செய்தி 4ம் பிரிவில் வாசிக்கிறோம். இந்தப் பட்டியலில், முதலில் குறிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளவர்கள், ஏழைகள். அவர்களின் நினைவாக, திருத்தந்தை பிரான்சிஸ் அவர்கள், வறியோர் உலக நாளை, வழிபாட்டு ஆண்டின் ஒரு பகுதியாக உருவாக்கினார். ஒவ்வோர் ஆண்டும், வழிபாட்டு ஆண்டின் நிறைவாக, நாம் கொண்டாடும் கிறிஸ்து அரசர் பெருவிழாவுக்கு முந்தைய ஞாயிறு, அதாவது, பொதுக்காலம், 33ம் ஞாயிறை, வறியோர் உலக நாளாகச் சிறப்பிக்க, திருத்தந்தை அழைப்பு விடுத்துள்ளார். 2017ம் ஆண்டு முதல் சிறப்பிக்கப்படும் இந்த உலக நாள், இவ்வாண்டு, மூன்றாம் முறையாக, இஞ்ஞாயிறன்று கொண்டாடப்படுகிறது.

இவ்வாண்டு நாம் சிறப்பிக்கும் மூன்றாவது வறியோர் உலக நாளுக்கென, திருத்தந்தை பிரான்சிஸ் அவர்கள் வெளியிட்டுள்ள செய்திக்கு, 9ம் திருப்பாடலில் காணப்படும் எளியோரின் நம்பிக்கை ஒருபோதும் வீண்போகாது (திருப்பாடல் 9:19) என்ற வரி, தலைப்பாக வழங்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. 9ம் திருப்பாடல் உருவான காலத்தையும், நாம் வாழும் காலத்தையும், இனிவரும், இறுதிக்காலத்தையும் இணைத்து, திருத்தந்தை வழங்கியுள்ள கருத்துக்களில் ஒரு சில இதோ:

"திருப்பாடல் 9 உருவான காலம், பொருளாதாரத்தில் பெரும் முன்னேற்றம் கண்ட காலம். அதே வேளையில், சமுதாயத்தில் ஏற்றத்தாழ்வுகளும் வளர்ந்தன... ஆணவம் கொண்டு, இறைவனை மறுத்து வாழ்ந்தவர்கள், வறியோரை வதைத்து வந்தனர். இன்றைய நிலையும் இதேவண்ணம் உள்ளது. பொருளாதார நெருக்கடி உள்ளதாகக் கூறப்படும் இன்றைய உலகில், செல்வந்தர்கள் கூடுதலாக செல்வம் சேர்த்து வருவதும், தங்கள் அடிப்படைத் தேவைகளையும் நிறைவேற்ற இயலாத வறியோரின் எண்ணிக்கை கூடி வருவதும், பெரும் முரணாக உள்ளது... நூற்றாண்டுகள் கடந்து செல்கின்றன. ஆனால், செல்வந்தர் மற்றும் வறியோரின் நிலைகளில் மாற்றங்கள் ஏதும் நிகழ்வதாகத் தெரியவில்லை. வரலாறு நமக்கு எதையும் கற்றுத்தரவில்லையோ என்று எண்ணத் தோன்றுகிறது." (எண் - 1)

நமது சொத்துக்களைக் காப்பதற்கும், மற்றவர்களை வெளியேற்றுவதற்கும் நாம் பல சுவர்களை எழுப்பலாம். ஆனால், இந்நிலை என்றென்றும் நீடிக்காது... இறைவாக்கினர்கள் (ஆமோஸ் 5:18, எசாயா 2:2-4) கூறுவதுபோல், 'ஆண்டவரின் நாளில்' நாடுகளுக்கிடையே உருவாக்கப்பட்டுள்ள தடைகள் தகர்க்கப்படும்; ஒரு சிலரது ஆணவம் புறந்தள்ளப்பட்டு, பலரது ஒருங்கிணைப்பு உருவாகும்." (எண் – 4)

 'ஆண்டவரின் நாளில்' நிகழவிருப்பதைப்பற்றி திருத்தந்தை பிரான்சிஸ் அவர்கள், வறியோர் உலக நாள் செய்தியில் கூறியுள்ள கருத்துக்கள், இன்றைய வழிபாட்டிற்கு நம்மை அழைத்துச் செல்கின்றன.

திருவழிபாட்டு ஆண்டின் இறுதி ஞாயிறு இது. அடுத்த ஞாயிறு கிறிஸ்து அரசர் பெருவிழா. அதற்கடுத்த ஞாயிறு, திருவருகைக் காலத்தின் முதல் ஞாயிறுடன், அடுத்த திருவழிபாட்டு ஆண்டை ஆரம்பிக்கிறோம். நாம் நிறைவுசெய்யும் இந்த திருவழிபாட்டு ஆண்டு முழுவதும், ஞாயிறு திருப்பலிகளில், லூக்கா நற்செய்தியின் அற்புதப் பகுதிகள் வழியாக இறைவன் நமக்களித்த மேலான எண்ணங்களுக்காக அவருக்கு நன்றி கூறுவோம்.

லூக்கா நற்செய்தியின் அற்புதப் பகுதிகள் என்று சொன்னதும், எல்லாமே மனதிற்கு இதமானதைச் சொல்லும் நற்செய்திப் பகுதிகள் என்று பொருள் கொள்ளக்கூடாது. நற்செய்தி என்றால், நல்லதைச் சொல்லும் செய்தி. அந்த நல்ல செய்தி, சில சமயங்களில், அச்சத்தையும், கலக்கத்தையும் உண்டாக்கும். நல்லவை நடக்கவேண்டும் என்ற எண்ணத்தோடு தரப்படும் எச்சரிக்கையும், நல்ல செய்திதானே. இந்தக் கோணத்திலிருந்து, இன்றைய நற்செய்தியை நாம் பார்க்கவேண்டும். இன்று நமக்குத் தரப்பட்டுள்ள நற்செய்தி வாசகத்தில், 15 இறைவாக்கியங்கள் உள்ளன. அவற்றில் 13 இறைவாக்கியங்கள் எதிர்மறை எண்ணங்களாக ஒலிக்கின்றன. இதோ, இன்றைய நற்செய்தியின் துவக்க வரிகள்...

லூக்கா நற்செய்தி 21: 5-6

அக்காலத்தில், கோவிலைப்பற்றிச் சிலர் பேசிக் கொண்டிருந்தனர். கவின்மிகு கற்களாலும், நேர்ச்சைப் பொருள்களாலும் கோவில் அழகுபடுத்தப்பட்டிருக்கிறது என்று சிலர் பேசிக் கொண்டிருந்தனர். இயேசு, “இவற்றையெல்லாம் பார்க்கிறீர்கள் அல்லவா? ஒரு காலம் வரும்; அப்போது கற்கள் ஒன்றின் மேல் ஒன்று இராதபடி இவையெல்லாம் இடிக்கப்படும்” என்றார்.

என்று ஆரம்பமாகிறது, இன்றைய நற்செய்தி. இந்த அறிமுக வரிகளை வாசிக்கும்போது, இயேசுவுக்கு, ஆனாலும், இவ்வளவு வீரம் தேவையில்லையோ என்று கவலைப்படத் தோன்றுகிறது. இஸ்ரயேல் மக்களின் உயிர்நாடியாக விளங்கிய எருசலேம் பேராலயத்தின் நடுவில் நின்றுகொண்டு, அந்தப் பேராலயம், தரை மட்டமாக்கப்படும் என்று கூறுவதற்கு, தனிப்பட்ட ஒரு வீரம் வேண்டும். பின்வருவதை முன்கூட்டியே அறியும் அருள் இயேசுவுக்கு இருந்ததால், அவரால் இவ்வளவு உறுதியாகப் பேச முடிந்ததென்று, இந்த வீரத்திற்கு, நாம் விளக்கம் சொல்லலாம்.

ஆனால், அதேநேரம், தனிப்பட்ட ஒருவர் நடந்து கொள்ளும் முறையை வைத்து, அவர் வாழ்வு, அழிவை நோக்கிப் போகிறதா, அல்லது, மகிழ்வை நோக்கிப் போகிறதா என்று சொல்லலாம், இல்லையா? அதேபோல், ஒரு நிறுவனம் நடத்தப்படும் முறையை வைத்தும், அதன் எதிர்காலத்தைப் பற்றிக் கூறலாம். எருசலேம் கோவில் நடத்தப்பட்ட முறையை ஆழமாய் உணர்ந்து, இயேசு, அதன் அழிவைப்பற்றி மனவேதனையுடன் பேசினார்.

தனது 12வது வயது முதல், எருசலேம் ஆலயத்தில் நடந்தவற்றைக் கண்டு, இயேசு கவலைப்பட்டிருப்பார். அவரது கவலையையும், ஆதங்கத்தையும் ஒரு சாட்டையாகப் பின்னி, அந்த ஆலயத்தை அவர் தூய்மைப்படுத்தினார். (லூக்கா 19: 45-46) அதற்குப் பின்னும், அந்த ஆலயம், மீண்டும் மெதுவாக, தனது பழைய வர்த்தக நிலைக்குத் திரும்பிக் கொண்டிருந்ததைப் பார்த்தார். வர்த்தகத்திற்கு அவ்வளவு தூரம் முதலிடம் தந்த அக்கோவில், கட்டாயம், வேற்று நாட்டவரின் பொறாமைப் பார்வையில் படும்; அக்கோவில் சேர்த்துள்ள செல்வமே, அதன் அழிவுக்குக் காரணமாய் இருக்கும் என்பதை உணர்த்த, இயேசு, இந்த வார்த்தைகளைச் சொல்லியிருக்கவேண்டும்.

வர்த்தகம் மலிந்து, செல்வச் செழிப்புடன் திகழும் எருசலேம் ஆலயம் தரைமட்டமாகும் என்று இயேசு கூறிய எச்சரிக்கை, இன்றைய உலகில் கட்டப்படும் ஆலயங்களை, கோவில்களை, தொழுகைக்கூடங்களை நம் நினைவுக்குக் கொணர்கின்றது. கோவில்கள், செல்வங்களைக் குவிக்கும் கருவூலங்களாக மாறும்போது, அந்த ஆலயத்தைக் காப்பதற்கு, பலமான கதவுகள் தேவைப்படும். அக்கதவுகள் பெரும்பாலான நேரங்களில் சாத்தப்பட்டிருக்க வேண்டு. ஆலயத்தைச் சுற்றி, கோட்டைகள் போல பாதுகாப்பு அமைப்புக்கள் தேவைப்படும். இதற்கு மாறாக, இறைமக்களின் ஒருங்கிணைப்பே இறைவனின் இல்லம் என்பதை மையப்படுத்தும் ஆலயங்கள், எப்போதும் தன் கதவுகளைத் திறந்து, மக்களை வரவேற்கக் காத்திருக்கும்.

இன்றைய நற்செய்தியின், முதல் இரு இறைவாக்கியங்களில் கோவிலின் அழிவுபற்றி பேசும் இயேசு, அதன் பின், உலகில் நிகழப்போகும் அழிவுகளைப்பற்றி 13 இறைவாக்கியங்களில் கூறியுள்ளார். அவர்  பட்டியலிட்டுக் கூறும் அவலங்களை அலசினால், இயேசு, நாம் வாழும் இக்காலத்தைப்பற்றிப் பேசுவதுபோல் தெரிகிறது. இயேசு கூறும் அந்த அவலங்கள், இதோ:

·          கடவுளின் பெயரைப் பயன்படுத்தியும், உலகம் அழியப்போகிறது என்ற அச்சத்தை உருவாக்கியும், மக்களை வழிமாறிப் போகச் செய்தல்;

·          போர் முழக்கங்கள், குழப்பங்கள், நாடுகள் ஒன்றை ஒன்று எதிர்த்து எழுதல்;

·          பெரிய நில நடுக்கங்கள், பஞ்சம், கொள்ளை நோய்;

·          அச்சுறுத்தும் அடையாளங்கள் வானில் தோன்றுதல்…

என்று இயேசு விவரிக்கும் அவலங்கள், நாம் வாழும் காலத்திலும் நம்மைச் சுற்றி நடப்பதை நாம் பார்த்துவருகிறோம். இந்த அவலங்களுக்கு, அழிவுகளுக்கு மத்தியில் கலங்காமல் இருங்கள் என்றும், இயேசு அழைப்பு விடுக்கிறார்.

உலகில் நிகழும் பயங்கரங்களைக் கூறிய இயேசு, பின்னர், ஒவ்வொருவரின் தனிப்பட்ட வாழ்வை, குறிப்பாக, தம்மைப் பின்பற்றுகிறவர்களின் வாழ்வை வெளிச்சம்போட்டுக் காட்டுகிறார். அங்கும் அவர் சொல்பவை, அச்சத்தை உருவாக்கும் ஒரு பட்டியல்தான்.

·          நீங்கள் விசாரணைகளுக்கு இழுத்துச் செல்லப்படுவீர்கள்;

·          உங்கள் குடும்பத்தினரே உங்களைக் காட்டிக் கொடுப்பார்கள்;

·          உங்களுக்கு எதிராகச் சான்று பகர்வார்கள்;

·          உங்களுள் சிலரைக் கொல்வார்கள்;

·          என்பெயரின் பொருட்டு எல்லாரும் உங்களை வெறுப்பார்கள்…

இயேசு கூறிய துன்பம் நிறைந்த இவ்வார்த்தைகளை, தங்கள் வாழ்வில், ஒவ்வொருநாளும் சந்திக்கும் கிறிஸ்துவர்களைப் பற்றி அடிக்கடி செய்திகள் வெளியாகி வருகின்றன. கிறிஸ்துவுக்காக, வன்முறைகளைச் சந்திக்கும் இவர்களுக்காக, இன்று சிறப்பாக செபிப்போம்.

இயேசு இன்றைய நற்செய்தியில் கூறிய இந்த அழிவுகளைக் கேட்கும்போது, இது என்ன நற்செய்தியா என்றுகூடக் கேட்கத் தோன்றுகிறது. மீண்டும் நினைவில் கொள்வோம்... நற்செய்தி என்றால், இனிப்பான செய்தி அல்ல.

நமக்குள் வளரும் ஒரு நோயைச் சுட்டிக்காட்டும் மருத்துவரை, எதிரி என்றா நாம் கூறுகிறோம்? நாவுக்குக் கசப்பான மருந்துகளைத் தரும் அவர், நமது நன்மைக்காகச் செய்கிறார் என நாம் நம்புவதில்லையா? அதேபோல், இயேசுவும், இந்த உலகத்தைப் பற்றிய கசப்பான உணமைகளைச் சொல்கிறார். முக்கியமாக, தன்னைப் பின்பற்றுகிறவர்களுக்கு வரவிருக்கும் சவால்களை, ஒளிவு மறைவு இல்லாமல் தெளிவாக்குகிறார். தனக்குச் சீடர்கள் வேண்டும், தன்னைச் சுற்றி எப்போதும் தன்புகழ் பாடும் கூட்டம் இருக்கவேண்டும் என்று அவர் நினைத்திருந்தால், கசப்பான உண்மைகளைச் சொல்லத் தேவையில்லையே!

தொண்டர்களைத் தவறான வழிகளில் நடத்தும் தலைவர்கள், எதிர்வரும் ஆபத்துக்களைச் சொல்லத் தயங்குவார்கள். அப்படியே ஆபத்துக்கள் வரும்போதும், உண்மைப் பிரச்சனைகளிலிருந்து மக்களைத் திசைத்திருப்பி, பாகுபாட்டு உணர்வுகளை வளர்த்து, தேவையில்லாமல் உயிர்களைப் பறிக்கும் வழிகளைத் தான் காட்டுவார்கள், இந்தப் போலித் தலைவர்கள். இயேசுவின் வழி, மாறுபட்ட வழி...

இத்தனைப் பிரச்சனைகளின் மத்தியிலும் இயேசு தரும் ஒரே வாக்குறுதி... அவரது பிரசன்னம். அழிவுகளையும், குழப்பங்களையும் பட்டியலிட்ட இன்றைய நற்செய்தியின் 15 இறைவாக்கியங்களில் 14,15 என்ற இரண்டு இறைவாக்கியங்களில் மட்டும் மனதுக்குத் துணிவூட்டும் நல்ல செய்தியைச் சொல்கிறார் இயேசு. விசாரணைகளின்போது, “என்ன பதில் அளிப்பது என முன்னதாகவே நீங்கள் கவலைப்பட வேண்டாம். இதை உங்கள் மனத்தில் வைத்துக்கொள்ளுங்கள். ஏனெனில் நானே உங்களுக்கு நாவன்மையையும் ஞானத்தையும் கொடுப்பேன்; உங்கள் எதிரில் எவராலும் உங்களை எதிர்த்து நிற்கவும் எதிர்த்துப் பேசவும் முடியாது.” (லூக்கா 21: 14-15) என்று உறுதி கூறுகிறார் இயேசு.

இன்றைய நற்செய்தியின் இறுதியிலும், இயேசு, அறுதல் தரும் வார்த்தைகளுடன் நிறைவு செய்கிறார். “நீங்கள் மன உறுதியோடு இருந்து உங்கள் வாழ்வைக் காத்துக் கொள்ளுங்கள்.” இங்கு இயேசு கூறும் ‘உஙகள் வாழ்வு’ இவ்வுலக வாழ்வு அல்ல. மறு உலக வாழ்வு.

சென்ற ஞாயிறு சிந்தனையின்போது, மறுவாழ்வைப் பற்றிப் பேசினோம். அப்போது சாவுக்கு நாள் குறிக்கப்பட்ட Randy Pausch என்ற பேராசிரியரைப்பற்றியும் சிந்தித்தோம். அவர் இறப்பதற்கு ஒரு சில வாரங்களுக்கு முன், தன் பல்கலைக் கழகத்தில் புதிதாகப் பட்டம் பெற்ற இளையோருக்கு வழங்கிய ஓர் உரையில், அவர் கூறிய சில எண்ணங்களின் தொகுப்பு இதோ: “உங்கள் வாழ்வில் ஆழ்ந்த தாகத்தோடு கனவுகளைத் துரத்துங்கள். கனவுகளைத் துரத்துவதற்கு முன், அவை எப்படிப்பட்ட கனவுகள் என்பதைத் தீர்மானம் செய்யுங்கள். பொருளும், புகழும் சேர்க்கும் கனவுகளைத் துரத்த வேண்டாம். நீங்கள் எவ்வளவுதான் பொருள் சேர்த்தாலும், உங்களை விட வேறொருவர் இன்னும் அதிகப் பொருள் சேர்த்திருப்பார்; அது உங்களை மீண்டும் ஏக்கத்தில் விட்டுவிடும். மனித உறவுகளைச் சேகரிக்கும் கனவுகளைத் துரத்துங்கள். மனித உறவு ஒவ்வொன்றும் ஏக்கம் தராது. நிறைவைத் தரும்." என்றார், பேராசிரியர் Randy Pausch.

வாழ்வைச் சந்திக்க, அதிலும் முக்கியமாக, வாழ்வின் பிரச்சனைகளைச் சந்திக்க, துயரங்களை, கவலைகளை, அழிவுகளைச் சந்திக்க நமக்குத் தேவையானவை - பொருள், செல்வம், பதவிகள் அல்ல. மாறாக, நமது உறவுகள்.

இயேசு, இவ்வுலகில் வாழ்ந்த வாழ்க்கை, பிரச்சனைகள் நிறைந்த ஒரு வாழ்க்கை. அந்த வாழ்வில், அவருக்கு உறுதியைத் தந்தது, தந்தையாம் இறைவனுடன் அவருக்கிருந்த உறவு. அந்த உறவில் இயேசு நம்பிக்கை இழந்திருந்தால், அவர் சந்தித்தப் பிரச்சனைகளில் நொறுங்கிப் போயிருப்பார். தன் வாழ்வில் அவர் கண்ட அந்த உறவு அனுபவத்தை, தன்னைப் பின்செல்ல விழைபவர்களுக்கும் அவர் கொடுக்க விழைகிறார். "நான் உங்களுடன் இருப்பேன். நீங்கள் பேச வேண்டியவற்றை நான் சொல்லித் தருவேன்." என்று அவர் வாக்குறுதி தருகிறார்.

அழிந்துபோகும், மற்றும்,  உலகை அழிக்கும் சக்திகளான, பணம், புகழ் ஆகியவற்றின் மத்தியில், மனித உறவுகள் என்ற சக்தியைத் தேடிச்செல்வோம். அந்த உறவுகளுக்கெல்லாம் சிகரமாக, இறைவனின் உறவு, நம்மோடு என்றும் உள்ளது என்ற நம்பிக்கையோடு, உலகப் பயணத்தை, வாழ்வின் முடிவை, உலகத்தின் முடிவை எதிர்கொள்வோம்.
