The Feast of the Transfiguration

August 6, this Sunday, our attention is first drawn to Lisbon in Portugal. The World Youth Day festivities, which began on August 1, comes to an end with a Mass celebrated by Pope Francis in Tejo Park, Lisbon. In view of the World Youth Day (WYD) celebrations in Portugal, Pope Francis released a message with the theme: “Mary arose and went with haste” (Luke 1:39). Just ahead of the WYD, Pope Francis released his monthly intention for August in the form of a video where the Pope has answered some questions raised by the youth. Here are two questions raised by the youth and the response given by the Pope:

Question 1: Dear Pope Francis, why did you choose the theme “Mary arose and went with haste” for this WYD?

Pope’s response: Because as soon as Mary knew she was going to be the Mother of God, she didn’t stay there taking a ‘selfie’ or showing off. The first thing she did was to set out on a journey, in haste, to serve, to help. You too have to learn from her to set out on a journey to help others.

Question 2: What is your hope for WYD in Lisbon?

Pope’s response: In Lisbon, I would like to see a seed for the world’s future. A world where love is at the centre, where we can sense that we are sisters and brothers. We are at war; we need something else. A world that is not afraid of witnessing to the Gospel, a joyful world – because if we Christians have no joy, we are not credible, no one will believe us.

As the World Youth Day festivities comes to a close this Sunday, in Lisbon, Portugal, we hope and pray that young women and men who have taken part in the programme become brave witnesses to the Gospel and be ready to build a world where love is at the centre. The World Youth Day coming to a close on the Feast of the Transfiguration can be considered a graceful occasion for all of us to think about the transformation to be brought by the younger generation. Let us reflect on the lessons this Feast can teach us living in 2023 with the constant threat of violence in various forms.

It must be one of the strange and sad accidents of history that the first atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima on August 6, 1945, – the Feast of the Transfiguration. We can be sure that Harry Truman (the then President of the U.S.) and his team would not have given any thought to this Feast, while planning their ‘disfiguration’ of the human family. This accidental coming together of Transfiguration and ‘disfiguration’ invites us to reflect on these two events and draw lessons for our life.

The phrases used in the Transfiguration narrative (Matthew 17: 1-9) seem uncannily, or, eerily similar to the phrases used by those who survived the atomic bomb. Matthew uses phrases like ‘shining like a sun’, ‘bright cloud’ and a ‘voice from the cloud’. Hiroshima survivors have spoken of ‘sun falling to the ground’, ‘bright cloud’, ‘roar like thunder’ etc. While the light, the cloud and the voice of the Transfiguration brought hope to those who witnessed it, the light, the mushroom cloud and the noise of the atom bomb brought destruction and despair not only to those who witnessed it, but for future generations as well.

Every year, at the beginning of the month of August, haunting memories of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, flood our memory. The gory details of this human massacre are well-known. So, let us not go over those details once again. Those details can only feed our curiosity. We need to reflect on the crucial question: Have Hiroshima and Nagasaki become only museum pieces to be visited once a year or, are they schools where we can learn a lesson or two?

I am afraid that even Japan is treating this tragedy as a ‘treasured museum piece’. Why do I say this? If Japan had treated Hiroshima and Nagasaki as schools, then ‘Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster’ (March 2011) would not have happened. After the danger faced by the Fukushima nuclear plant, Japan began to close down its atomic plants one by one. Unfortunately, this enlightenment of the Japanese government was short-lived. Japan has begun reopening its atomic power plants once again!

Sadly, Japan, as well as all the nations of the world are madly… MADLY… in love with nuclear energy still. On a day like this, we need to reflect seriously on our tragic-romance with nuclear energy. The cenotaph at the Hiroshima Peace Park is inscribed with an ambiguous sentence: "Let all the souls here rest in peace; this mistake shall not be repeated." (Wikipedia) But from Hiroshima to Fukushima incident, nuclear mistakes have been repeated – all over the world!

We keep hearing the threatening messages issued now and then (of late, quite frequently) by the mad presidents of Russia and North Korea on the possible use of nuclear weapons! North Korea keeps conducting powerful weapons tests and threatens pre-emptive nuclear strikes on Washington and Seoul. It may be taking inspiration from the fiery rhetoric of the leader of a nuclear-armed member of the U.N. Security Council: Russia’s Vladimir Putin.

Why are mistakes repeated? There could be hundreds of reasons. But, I wish to focus on two of them. The first is… when mistakes are covered up with falsehood and made to look like the proper thing, they tend to be repeated. The mistake of the U.S. was well covered up. Delayed information, distorted information, downright lies accompanied the dropping of the atomic bombs. As I was going through many details of this historic tragedy, something struck me hard. When the atom bomb was dropped on Hiroshima, it was 8.16 a.m. on August 6 in Japan. It was still the night of August 5 in the U.S. and the people there were asleep. One can see that this nation is still struggling to wake up from this sleep and find out the real truth.

After the Hiroshima bombing, Truman issued a statement announcing the use of the new weapon. He stated, "We may be grateful to Providence" that the German atomic bomb project had failed, and that the United States and its allies had "spent two billion dollars on the greatest scientific gamble in history - and won". (Wikipedia) When we read this statement, we wonder what Truman or the U.S. had really ‘won’. This brings to mind the famous saying of Jesus: For what will it profit a man, if he gains the whole world and forfeits his life? (Mt. 16:26)

It is interesting to see that Jesus made this famous statement just before the Transfiguration when he told his disciples, for the first time, what type of death was awaiting him. Then he went on to challenge his disciples to take up their crosses as well. In this discourse of challenges, he also posed the great question of gaining the whole world and losing one’s life. This question of Jesus had enlightened hundreds of Saints down the centuries (including St Ignatius of Loyola and St Francis Xavier) to look at life’s achievements in proper perspective. When we read the triumphant statements of President Truman, these words of Jesus come to our minds.

When mistakes are not covered up in lies, we can surely learn from those mistakes, since truth will always set us free. But, unfortunately, every government in the world is dishing out lies as far as nuclear warheads are concerned. As if the threat of nuclear warheads is not enough, every country is moving towards building nuclear plants. On this front as well, lots of lies have been told about the safety of a nuclear plant and about the different accidents that have happened in nuclear plants. Hence, here is my simple (you may call this ‘naive’) conclusion: Nuclear energy can thrive only on the seedbed of lies!

Why are we so madly in love with nuclear energy? Is there no other alternative? I am not a scientist and hence my answer to this question cannot be scientific. But I am a believer. My belief says that our world can survive, in fact, flourish in safer environment if we depend on other natural sources of energy – wind, water, sunlight… My belief says that the universe is designed in such a way that it can sustain itself when we are able to tap the natural resources appropriately. The catch words are: ‘tap’ and ‘appropriately’… Unfortunately, our present generation has not ‘tapped’ natural sources of energy but has ‘exploited’ them indiscriminately!

Our natural sources of energy can surely sustain the whole of humanity, provided we decide to satisfy our ‘need’ and not our ‘greed’ (Mahatma Gandhi). Since nature could not satisfy our mad rush for more and MORE, we looked for artificial sources of energy. Look, where we have landed up… We have landed on a planet that is waiting to explode any time. Our unbridled greed has exploited mother earth and we are leaving a ‘tattered globe’ for the future generation.

Let us come back to the event of the Transfiguration. Celebrating the culmination of the World Youth Day on the Feast of the Transfiguration as well as the memorial day of Hiroshima attack, invites us to pray for ourselves, and more especially for the youth.

At the scene of the Transfiguration, a voice from the cloud said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to him.” (Mt. 17:5) If we listen to Jesus, he would present us, as he did with his disciples, with a challenge. The disciples wanted to stay on in the cozy atmosphere of the mountain top with the glorious Transfiguration of their Master. But, Jesus ‘woke them up’ from that dream and took them down the mountain to meet the people awaiting them.

Jesus places before us similar challenges. If we are willing to listen to Jesus, more challenges await us, challenges that call for a self-sacrificing life. On the other hand, if we prefer a self-centred life, we need to support our selfishness by listening to the lies of the ‘merchants of death’ who created the atomic bomb and continue to create other atomic devices. We shall be forced to build temples for our ‘atomic demons’! The choice is ours!

ஆண்டவரின் தோற்றமாற்றம் விழா

இந்த ஞாயிறு நம் எண்ணங்கள் போர்த்துக்கல் நாட்டின் லிஸ்பன் நகரை நோக்கிச் செல்கின்றன. ஆகஸ்ட் 1ம் தேதி முதல், 6, இஞ்ஞாயிறு முடிய, போர்த்துக்கல் நாட்டின் லிஸ்பன் நகரில், உலக இளையோர் நாள் நிகழ்வுகள் நடைபெற்று வருகின்றன. "மரியா புறப்பட்டு,... விரைந்து சென்றார்" (லூக். 1:39) என்ற மையக்கருத்துடன் நடைபெறும் இந்த இளையோர் நாள் நிகழ்வுகளில் திருத்தந்தை பிரான்சிஸ் அவர்கள் கலந்துகொண்டுள்ளார்.

ஒவ்வொரு மாதமும் ஒரு தனிப்பட்ட செபக்கருத்தை வெளியிட்டு வரும் திருத்தந்தை பிரான்சிஸ் அவர்கள்,  இந்த இளையோர் நாள் நிகழ்வுகளுக்காக நாம் செபிக்கவேண்டும் என்பதை, தன் ஆகஸ்ட் மாத செபக்கருத்தாக வெளியிட்டிருந்தார். ஒவ்வொரு மாதமும் தன் செபக்கருத்தை, 'The Pope's Video' என்ற காணொளி வடிவில் வெளியிட்டுவரும் திருத்தந்தை, இந்த மாதமும், இளையோர் நாளை மையப்படுத்தி தன் காணொளியை வெளியிட்டுள்ளார். உலகின் பல பகுதிகளிலிருந்து இளையோர் எழுப்பும் கேள்விகளுக்கு பதில் கூறும் வண்ணம் இந்த காணொளி அமைந்திருந்தது.

பிலிப்பீன்ஸ் நாட்டிலிருந்து இளம்பெண் ஒருவர் ஒரு கேள்வியை திருத்தந்தையிடம் கேட்கின்றார்: "அன்புத் திருத்தந்தை பிரான்சிஸ் அவர்களே, "மரியா புறப்பட்டு,... விரைந்து சென்றார்" என்ற மையக்கருத்தை, இளையோர் நாளுக்கென ஏன் தெரிவு செய்தீர்கள்?"

இந்தக் கேள்விக்கு திருத்தந்தை வழங்கிய பதிலில், "நான் அந்த மையக் கருத்தை ஏன் தெரிவு செய்தேன் என்றால், தான் இறைவனின் தாயாகப் போகிறோம் என்பதை மரியா தெரிந்துகொண்டதும், அங்கேயே தங்கி, தன்னை ஒரு 'செல்ஃபீ' எடுப்பதிலும், தன்னையே விளம்பரப்படுத்திக் கொள்வதிலும் அவர் நேரத்தை செலவிடவில்லை. அவர் செய்த முதல் செயல், மற்றொருவருக்கு உதவி செய்வதற்கு ஒரு பயணத்தை மேற்கொள்கிறார். இளையோராகிய நீங்களும், பிறருக்கு உதவி செய்வதற்கு பயணங்கள் மேற்கொள்ளவேண்டும்" என்ற அழைப்பை இளையோருக்கு விடுத்துள்ளார்.

"லிஸ்பனில் நடைபெறும் உலக இளையோர் நாளையொட்டி உங்கள் எதிர்நோக்கு என்ன?" என்ற மற்றொரு கேள்வி திருத்தந்தையிடம் எழுப்பப்படுகிறது. அதற்குப் பதில் சொன்ன திருத்தந்தை, "உலகின் எதிர்காலத்திற்கு விதையாக லிஸ்பன் அமையும் என்று எதிர்பார்க்கிறேன். அந்த உலகில் அன்பு மையமாக இருக்கும், அங்கு நாம் அனைவரும் சகோதரிகளாக, சகோதரர்களாக இருப்போம். இப்போது நாம் போரில் ஈடுபட்டிருக்கிறோம், நமக்கு வேறொரு உலகம் தேவை. அந்த உலகம், நற்செய்திக்கு சான்று பகர அஞ்சாது. அது, மகிழ்வான உலகம். கிறிஸ்தவர்களாகிய நம்மிடையே மகிழ்வு இல்லையெனில், நம்மையோ, நாம் சொல்வதையோ யாரும் நம்பமாட்டார்கள்" என்று கூறியுள்ளார்.

அன்பையும், மகிழ்வையும் மையப்படுத்திய உலகை நம் இளையோர் உருவாக்க அனைத்து முயற்சிகளையும் மேற்கொள்ளவேண்டும் என்ற வேண்டுதலுடன் நாம் இஞ்ஞாயிறு வழிபாட்டில் கலந்துகொள்வோம்.

ஆகஸ்ட் 6, இஞ்ஞாயிறன்று, போர்த்துக்கல் நாட்டின் தலைநகரான லிஸ்பனில் நிறைவுறும் உலக இளையோர் நாள் நிகழ்வுகளில் கலந்துகொண்டோர், அங்கிருந்து 'புறப்பட்டு, விரைவாகச் சென்று' உலகெங்கும் நம்பிக்கையையும், மகிழ்வையும் விதைக்கும் கருவிகளாக உருமாற வேண்டும் என்று இன்றைய திருவழிபாட்டில் சிறப்பாக மன்றாடுவோம். இளையோரின் முயற்சிகளால், இவ்வுலகில் நல்ல மாற்றங்கள் உருவாகவேண்டும் என்ற எண்ணத்தை ஆழப்பதிக்கும்வண்ணம், இளையோர் நாள் நிகழ்வுகள் நிறைவுறும் இந்த ஞாயிறன்று, இயேசு தோற்றமாற்றம் அடைந்த விழா நம் வழிபாட்டின் மையமாக அமைந்துள்ளது. இதை, இறைவன் நமக்கு வழங்கியுள்ள அருள்நிறைந்ததொரு தருணமாகக் கருதலாம்.

ஆண்டவரின் தோற்றமாற்றம் நிகழ்வு, பல்வேறு உன்னத எண்ணங்களை நமக்குள் உருவாக்குகின்றது. அதேவேளையில், இந்நிகழ்வு கொண்டாடப்படும் ஆகஸ்ட் 6ம் தேதி, வேறொரு வேதனை எண்ணத்தையும் நம் உள்ளத்தில் விதைக்கின்றது. ஆம், 1945ம் ஆண்டு, ஆகஸ்ட் 6ம் தேதி, ஜப்பானின் ஹிரோஷிமா நகரில் நிகழ்த்தப்பட்ட அணுகுண்டு தாக்குதல், மனித வரலாற்றை உருமாற்றியது. ‘உருகுலைத்தது’ என்பதே பொருத்தமான சொல்... தோற்றமாற்றம் விழாவன்று அணுகுண்டு தாக்குதல் நடைபெற்றதால், இவ்விரு நிகழ்வுகளையும் இணைத்து சிந்திக்க, நமக்கோர் அழைப்பு விடப்பட்டுள்ளது.

அணுகுண்டு வீசப்பட்ட நேரம், ஜப்பானில், காலை 8.16. அந்த நேரத்தைச் சற்று கற்பனை செய்துபார்ப்போம். அது, ஆகஸ்ட் 6ம் தேதி என்பதால், ஹிரோஷிமாவில் இருந்த பல கத்தோலிக்கக் கோவில்களில், தோற்றமாற்ற நிகழ்வைக் கூறும் நற்செய்தி ஒலித்திருக்கும். தோற்றமாற்றம் நிகழ்வைப் பதிவுசெய்ய, நற்செய்தியாளர் மத்தேயு பயன்படுத்தியுள்ள வார்த்தைகளுக்கும், அணுகுண்டு தாக்குதலைக் கண்டவர்கள் பயன்படுத்தியுள்ள வார்த்தைகளுக்கும் உள்ள ஒப்புமை, நம் கவனத்தை ஈர்க்கின்றது.

தோற்றமாற்றத்தைப் பற்றி கூறும் நற்செய்தியில், இயேசுவின் முகம் கதிரவனைப்போல் ஒளிர்ந்தது; அவரது ஆடைகள், ஒளிபோன்று வெண்மையாயின; ஒளிமயமான மேகம் அவர்கள்மேல் நிழலிட்டது; அம்மேகத்திலிருந்து குரலொன்று ஒலித்தது என்பவை, நற்செய்தியில் பதிவாகியுள்ள கூற்றுகள்.

அணுகுண்டு தாக்குதலிலிருந்து உயிர் பிழைத்தவர்கள், தங்கள் அனுபவத்தைப் பகிர்ந்துகொண்டபோது, அவர்களில் பலர், பூமியில் விழுந்த சூரியன், ஒளிமயமான மேகம், இடிமுழக்கம், நிலநடுக்கம் ஆகிய சொற்களைப் பயன்படுத்தினர்.

தோற்றமாற்றம் நிகழ்நதபோது உருவான ஒளி, மேகம், ஒலி ஆகியவை நம்பிக்கையைக் கொணர்ந்தன. அணுகுண்டு தாக்குதலால் உருவான ஒளி, மேகம், ஒலி ஆகியவை, அழிவைக் கொணர்ந்தன, மனித குலத்தின் மீதிருந்த நம்பிக்கையைத் தகர்த்தன.

1945ம் ஆண்டு, ஆகஸ்ட் 6, 9 ஆகிய இரு நாள்கள் ஜப்பானின் ஹிரோஷிமா, நாகசாகி ஆகிய இரு நகரங்களில், அமெரிக்க ஐக்கிய நாடு நிகழ்த்திய அணுகுண்டு தாக்குதல்களால் ஏற்பட்ட அழிவுகளைப்பற்றி நாம் பக்கம்பக்கமாக வாசித்துவிட்டோம். எனவே புள்ளிவிவரங்களில் நாம் நேரத்தைச் செலவழிக்க வேண்டாம். அணுசக்தியின் பாதகமான விளைவுகளை நாம் இன்னும் சரியாகப் புரிந்துகொண்டுள்ளோமா என்பதே நம் கவலை. அணுசக்தியால் உருவாகக்கூடிய அழிவுகளைக் கண்ட ஜப்பான் நாட்டு மக்களும் இந்த ஆபத்தை உணர்ந்துள்ளனரா என்பது கேள்விக்குறியே. ஹிரோஷிமா அணுகுண்டு அழிவு முதல், 2011ம் ஆண்டு ஜப்பானில் நிகழ்ந்த சுனாமியின் விளைவாக Fukushima அணு உலையில் ஏற்பட்ட விபத்து வரை, மனிதகுலம், அணுசக்தியை இன்னும் நம்பி வாழ்கிறதே என்ற கவலையை, இறைவனிடம் எடுத்துச்சொல்லும் கட்டாயத்தில் நாம் இருக்கிறோம்.

அணுசக்தியை, அணுஉலைகளைப் பற்றிய கருத்துக்கள், ஒரு ஞாயிறு வழிபாட்டிற்கு தேவைதானா என்ற கேள்வி எழலாம். நம் வாழ்வை இன்று பெருமளவில் பாதிக்கும் ஓர் அறிவியல் எதார்த்தத்தை, கிறிஸ்தவர்கள் என்ற முறையில், விசுவாசக் கண்ணோட்டத்துடன் காண்பதற்கும், வாழ்க்கைப் பாடங்களைப் பயில்வதற்கும் இறைவனின் இல்லம் நமக்கு ஒரு பள்ளியாக அமையட்டும்.

மனசாட்சியின் குரலை நெரித்துவிட்டு, அணுகுண்டு தாக்குதலை நியாயப்படுத்த அமெரிக்க அரசு சொன்ன பொய்யில் துவங்கி, இன்று வரை, அணு ஆயுதங்கள், அணு உலைகள், அணுக்கழிவுகள் என்ற பல விடயங்களில் மனித குடும்பத்திற்கு உலக அரசுகள் பொய்களைக் கூறிவருகின்றன என்பதை இந்த நாளில் நாம் முதலில் சிந்திக்கவேண்டும்.

1945ம் ஆண்டு நிகழ்த்தப்பட்ட அணுகுண்டு தாக்குதல்களை நியாயப்படுத்த பல பொய்கள் சொல்லப்பட்டதுபோல், உலகில் தற்போதுள்ள அணுஆயுதங்களைப் பற்றியும் பல்லாயிரம் பொய்கள் நம்மிடையே உலவி வருகின்றன. அழிவைக் கொணரும் அணு ஆயுதங்கள் போதாதென்று, உலகின் பெரும்பாலான நாடுகள், அணு உலைகளைக் நம்பிவருகின்றன. அணு உலைகளைப் பற்றியும், இதுவரை அணு உலைகளில் ஏற்பட்டுள்ள விபத்துக்களைப் பற்றியும் ஏகப்பட்ட பொய்கள் தொடர்ந்து கூறப்படுகின்றன. அணு உலைகளில் உருவாகும் கழிவுகள் பூமியில் புதைக்கப்படுவதால், அந்த நிலம் பலநூறு ஆண்டுகளுக்கு கதிரியக்கம் கொண்டதாக மாறுகிறது என்பதையும், அங்கு எந்த ஒரு தாவரமோ, உயிரினமோ வாழமுடியாது என்பதையும் பற்றி யாரும் பேசுவதே கிடையாது.

தமிழ்நாட்டின் கூடங்குளத்தில் உருவாக்கப்பட்டுள்ள அணுமின் நிலையத்தைப்பற்றிய முழு விவரங்களையும் வெளியிடுமாறு மக்கள் போராடினர். முழு விவரங்களும் இதுவரைச் சொல்லப்படவில்லை. கூடங்குளத்தில் மட்டுமல்ல, உலகின் அனைத்து நாடுகளிலுமே அணு உலைகளைப்பற்றிய முழு உண்மைகள் மக்களிடமிருந்து மறைக்கப்பட்டு வருகின்றன. அணுசக்தியை காப்பாற்ற வேண்டுமெனில், பொய்யையும் நாம் கண்ணும்கருத்துமாய் காப்பாற்ற வேண்டியிருக்கும்.

இவ்வளவு ஆபத்தான அணுசக்தி நமக்குத் தேவைதானா? மாற்று சக்திகளை நாம் பயன்படுத்த முடியாதா? என்ற கேள்விகள் எழுகின்றன. அணுசக்திக்கு மாற்றாக எத்தனையோ வகை இயற்கைச் சக்திகளை நாம் பயன்படுத்த முடியும். நீர், காற்று, சூரியஒளி என்ற அனைத்தையுமே நாம் சக்திகளாக மாற்றமுடியும். அப்படி நாம் பயன்படுத்தும் இயற்கைச் சக்திகளைக்கொண்டு நமது தேவைகளை நிறைவு செய்துகொள்ளலாம். அதில் சந்தேகமேயில்லை. ஆனால், கட்டுக்கடங்காமல் வளர்ந்திருக்கும் நமது பேராசைகளை நிறைசெய்யும் ஆற்றல், இந்தச் சக்திகளுக்குக் கிடையாது. இதுதான் பிரச்சனை.

ஆண்டவரின் தோற்றமாற்ற விழாவும், ஹிரோஷிமா அணுகுண்டு தாக்குதலின் நினைவும் இணைந்து வரும் ஆகஸ்ட் 6ம் தேதி உலக இளையோர் நாள் நிகழ்வுகள் நிறைவு பெறுகின்றன. இந்த மூன்று எண்ணங்களையும் இணைத்து நம் வேண்டுதல்களை எழுப்புவோம். ஆண்டவரின் தோற்றமாற்ற நிகழ்வில், தந்தையாம் இறைவன், "என் அன்பார்ந்த மைந்தர் இவரே... இவருக்குச் செவிசாயுங்கள்" (மத். 17:5) என்ற அழைப்பை விடுத்தார். இயேசுவுக்கு செவிமடுக்கும்போது, அவர் அன்று தம் சீடர்களுக்கு விடுத்த சவாலைப்போல் நமக்கும் சவால் விடுக்கிறார். தோற்றமாற்ற நிகழ்வு தந்த மகிழ்விலும், வியப்பிலும் தங்கிவிட நினைத்த சீடர்களை மீண்டும் மலையிலிருந்து இறங்கி, வாழ்வின் பிரச்சனைகளைச் சந்திக்க இயேசு அழைத்துச் சென்றார்.

அந்த அழைப்பு இன்று நமக்கு, குறிப்பாக, நம் இளையோருக்கு விடப்படுகிறது. இயேசுவுக்கு செவிசாய்க்கும்போது, அவர் நம்மை சுயநல வாழ்விலிருந்து வெளியேற அழைப்பதை உணரலாம். சுயநலமும், பேராசையும் அளவின்றி வளரும்போது, அவற்றைக் காப்பாற்ற பல்வேறு உலக சக்திகளோடு, அதிலும் குறிப்பாக, அழிவை உருவாக்கும் சக்திகளோடு நாம் சமரசம் செய்யவேண்டியுள்ளது.

உலகில் அணு ஆயுதங்கள் முற்றிலும் ஒழியவேண்டும்; வன்முறையை, பல வடிவங்களில் கட்டவிழ்த்துவிடும் மனிதர்களின் வெறி அடங்கவேண்டும் என்று இறைவனிடம் உருக்கமாக செபிப்போம்.

நம் இளைய தலைமுறை வாழப்போகும் எதிர்கால உலகில், வாழ்வை அழிக்கும் சக்திகள் மறைந்து, வாழ்வை வளர்க்கும் சக்திகளை போற்றி பாதுகாக்க நம் இளையோருக்கு நல்ல ஞானத்தை இறைவன் வழங்கவேண்டும் என்று மன்றாடுவோம்.

நம்மை உருமாற்றவும், நம்மை ஆட்டிப்படைக்கும் சுயநலம் என்ற தீய ஆவியை விரட்டவும் வலிமை கொண்ட ஆண்டவனை நாம் நம்பவேண்டும் அவருக்கு செவிசாய்க்கவேண்டும். ஆண்டவனை நம்பாமல், பேராசை வெறி என்ற தீய ஆவியால் நாம் ஆட்கொள்ளப்பட்டால், ஆண்டவனை ஒதுக்கிவிட்டு, அழிவைத் தரும் அணுசக்திக்குக் கோவில் கட்டி கும்பிட வேண்டியிருக்கும், எச்சரிக்கை!!!
