The Feast of the Epiphany
Most of us have
pleasant memories of the Christmas plays staged in our parishes and schools. I
was fond of these plays, especially the final scene, when the Magi would appear
on stage. These three Kings would come in glittering clothes wearing a
cardboard crown covered with golden paper. These Kings looked more attractive
than the poor shepherds, Mary, Joseph and even Baby Jesus. In my childhood,
these Kings attracted me because of their dress and crown. Now, these Kings
still attract me… for very different reasons. The feast of the Three Kings or
the Three Wisemen is properly known as the Feast of the Epiphany. There are
quite a few lessons we can learn from this Feast.
The first lesson is
that our God is an all-embracing, universal God. God is not the private
property of any human group. In all probability, this day must have shocked
quite a few orthodox Jews. They were very sure that the one and only true God –
the Yahweh – was theirs, EXCLUSIVELY. God must have smiled at this idea; but with
parental love, God would have allowed them to hold on to their idea of
‘exclusivity’. God waited for the opportune time. By inviting the wisemen from
the East to visit the Divine Babe at Bethlehem, God had broken the myth of the
Jews who believed that God was their ‘exclusive property’!
God cannot be the
private property of any human group. This message is still very relevant to us,
especially in the light of all the divisions created by various individuals and
groups who have used God and religion as a political weapon of division. In the
past few years, places of worship have been the target of violent attacks.
The New Year 2023 did
not begin well for the Christians in Chhattisgarh, India. A church was
vandalised and six police personnel, including an IPS officer, were attacked
and injured on January 2, Monday, when a violent mob attacked a church in Narayanpur
city, claiming that religious conversion was taking place in that church.
A survey conducted by
the United Christian Forum - a non-governmental organisation in India - has concluded
that the violence against Christians in India peaked in the year 2022. According
to the findings released on November 21, 2022, there were about 511 cases of
violence that were reported against the Christians in the country. The numbers
are slightly more than the 505 cases of violence against the community that
were reported in 2021. (cf. https://english.varthabharati.in)
In many other
countries, explosions have taken place in places of worship during a
celebration, claiming innocent lives. It is so sad to see that places of
worship, where God wishes to embrace the whole human race, have become
battlefields tearing the human family to shreds. God is surely not party to any
divisive force! Unifying, reconciling… these are God’s ways. On the Feast of
the Epiphany, let us earnestly pray, that the whole human family may live
together as one divine family.
Although this feast is
mainly about Jesus revealing himself to the whole world, still, the main
characters of this feast seem to be the ‘Magi’. Very little is known about
these persons in the Bible. Only Matthew’s Gospel (2: 1-12) talks about
these persons. Their effort in following the star has inspired countless men
and women to ‘follow the star’ in their lives.
On this feast, it will
be a fruitful experience for us to reflect on the concept of ‘following a
star’. Stars are not visible during the day. Hence, following a star is
possible only at night. This means that these wise men must have done most of
their journey at night – not an easy option, given their mode of transport etc.
It must have been very difficult to gaze upon one little star among the
hundreds, on a clear sky.
What if the sky was
not clear? Then they would have to wait until clouds and mist clear. Hence,
their journey must have taken nights… many nights. Still, they persisted. What
a resolve! Resolutions are part and parcel of every New Year! What better way
to begin the New Year with the feast of ‘the wise men’ who can be honoured as
‘patrons of resolutions’!
Nowadays, the phrase
‘following a star’ is, unfortunately, misinterpreted as following a
star-personality. In India, more unfortunately, we have too many of these
stars, especially in the cine field and in cricket. The amount of time and
energy wasted by the fans – mostly the youth – on these ‘mega-stars’ and
‘super-stars’ is shocking, to say the least. By the time, these fans learn that
‘following these stars’ lead them nowhere, it is rather too late. If only the
typical Indian fan can take a new year resolution not to follow the ‘false
stars’ from the media, cricket and politics, but to follow the real stars –
noble ideals – India will surely have a bright future!
The Gospel of Matthew
(2: 1-12) says that these wisemen were from the East. They were probably
experts in astrology – namely, the study of stars. Hence, when they saw this
new star, they were able to predict the birth of a King. Their study led them
further. They decided to follow the star and, ultimately, met the new born
King.
Unfortunately, there
are some experts – astrologers – who are king-makers. They ‘study’ the star in
which one is born and predict the future. Most of the political leaders in Asia
seem to trust these astrologers and their interpretations and make their
decisions accordingly!
Why blame political
leaders, who have only one aim in their life, namely, to stay in power? Quite
many of us abdicate our power to the stars attached to our birthday. What these
stars predict each week, tends to influence our decisions to a large extent.
Should we allow stars and planets to influence our lives so much? We set aside
time to read ‘stars foretell’ columns in the papers. But, how many of us have
the time to look up at the sky and contemplate the beauty of the stars?
For us living in the
21st century, there seems to be no time to look to the heavens to gaze upon
stars. We are dazzled and even blinded by too many artificial stars and hence
real stars have receded from our view. We hardly look up. Or, possibly, we look
up to the skies only when dark clouds gather. We look up to the skies with a
question: Will it rain? Similarly, when dark clouds gather in our hearts, we
again look up to the skies with the famous clichéd question: Is there a God up
there?
Doubts drive us to
look up, whether they are doubts about rain or pain.
When the wise men
followed the star, doubts were raging in their hearts too. But, they were
driven more by desire than by doubts and hence could reach their destination.
For our generation to which patience and persistence seem to have become
obsolete words, the wise men have a lot to teach! This alone is reason enough
to celebrate the wisemen as real ‘stars’!
Following a star would
also mean following an ideal. To follow such stars, one needs to look not with
the physical eye but with an inner eye, the eyes of our heart.
Leo Buscaglia (Also
known as "Dr. Love", was an American author, motivational speaker,
and a professor in the Department of Special Education at the University of
Southern California) once told a story that happened while he was a
professor at the University of Southern California. He had a student, Joel, who was brilliant and
filled with potential. Joel, however,
had lost his meaning and purpose for living.
His Jewish tradition and background did not serve him. God had become a
meaningless symbol. He had no motivation
to live another day and no one could convince him otherwise. On his way to take his life, he stopped by
Leo’s office. Fortunately, the good
doctor was in.
The student told
Leo that he had lots of money, clothes and cars. He had been accepted at several of the top
engineering schools for their masters programs.
He had everything going for him even good looks. Women circled around
him like sharks. Yet he had nothing
inside. There was no fire or passion in
his belly. His five senses were
incapable of communicating to his faltering identity anything that might
produce goals, vision, joy, laughter, enthusiasm, peace and harmony. He had created an invisible gulf that no one
could cross.
Leo said, “Before
you take your life, I want you to visit some old people at the Hebrew Home
which is adjacent to our campus.” “What
for?” Joel countered. Leo said, “You
need to understand life through the eyes of your heart.” “The eyes of my heart?” he asked. “Yes, you need to experience what it is like
to give to those who have lost their connection to a meaningful life. Go to the desk and ask if there are people
there who have not been visited for a long time by anyone. You visit
them.” “And say what?” “I don’t know,” Leo said, “Tell them anything
that will give them hope.”
Leo did not see the
student for months. In fact, he had
largely forgotten about him. One day
during the fall, he saw him with other students, a bus and a group of seniors,
some who were in wheel chairs. Joel had
organized a trip to the baseball game with a group of his new senior friends
who had not been to a game in years. The
two chatted for a moment. Just before
parting Joel said, “Thanks for helping me find the ‘eyes of my heart.’” Leo nodded and smiled. ("Using The Eyes Of Your Heart" - Sermon

A parting thought on
‘following a star’: When we begin to follow a star, let us look for real,
inspiring stars – noble ideals in life – even if this means lots of challenges
and lots of hardships. Let us get inspired – at the start of a new year – by
the song ‘The Impossible Dream’ - written by Joe Darion:

The Star of Bethlehem
திருக்காட்சிப் பெருவிழா
சிறுவயதில் நான் பார்த்த கிறிஸ்மஸ் நாடகங்களில் எனக்குப்
பிடித்த கதாபாத்திரங்கள் யார் தெரியுமா? மூன்று இராஜாக்கள்.
அந்த மூன்று பேரும் பளபளப்பாய் உடை அணிந்து, தலையில், தங்கக்
காகிதத்தால் செய்த மகுடம் சூடிக்கொண்டு வருவார்கள். மரியா, யோசேப்பு, குழந்தை இயேசு,
இடையர்கள் என்று அந்த நாடகத்தில் பங்குபெறும் எல்லாரையும்
விட, இவர்களது தோற்றம் பிரம்மாதமாக இருக்கும். தங்கள் ஆடம்பர உடையால், சின்ன வயதில்
என்னைக் கவர்ந்த இந்த அரசர்கள், இன்று, வேறு சில காரணங்களுக்காக என்னைக்
கவர்ந்துள்ளனர். எனக்கு ஆழமான பாடங்களைச் சொல்லித்தருகின்றனர்.
மூன்று அரசர்கள், மூவேந்தர்கள் அல்லது
மூன்று ஞானிகள் என்று பலவாறாக அழைக்கப்படும் இந்த மூவரும் யார்? வரலாற்றுப்பூர்வமான, துல்லியமான பதில்கள் இந்தக் கேள்விக்கு எளிதில் கிடைக்காது.
மத்தேயு நற்செய்தி 2ம்பிரிவில் மட்டும் குறிப்பிடப்பட்டிருக்கும் இந்த மூவரும், கடந்த
20 நூற்றாண்டுகளாக பல கோடி மக்களின் மனங்களில், பல்வேறு தாக்கங்களை உருவாக்கியிருக்கிறார்கள்... முக்கியமாக, இறைவனைத் தேடும் தாகத்தை உருவாக்கியிருக்கிறார்கள். இந்த ஒரு காரணம் போதும்,
இவர்களுக்கு விழா எடுப்பதற்கு.
இன்று நாம் கொண்டாடும் மூன்று அரசர் அல்லது மூன்று ஞானிகள்
திருநாள், இறைவன், தன்னை,
அனைத்து மக்களுக்கும் வெளிப்படுத்திய திருக்காட்சித் திருநாள்
எனக் கொண்டாடப்படுகிறது. இறைவன் தங்களுக்கு மட்டுமே சொந்தம் என்று எண்ணிவந்த யூத குலத்தவருக்கு,
இந்தத் திருநாளும்,
இதில் பொதிந்திருக்கும் உண்மையும், அதிர்ச்சியைத் தந்திருக்கும்.
வானதூதர்கள் வழியாக,
எரியும் புதர் வழியாக, தங்களுக்கு மட்டுமே தோன்றிய இறைவன், இன்று பிற இனத்தவருக்கும் தோன்றினார் என்பது அவர்களுக்கு அதிர்ச்சியைத் தந்திருக்கும்.
இறைவன் அனைத்து மக்களுக்கும் பொதுவானவர். யாருக்கும் தனிப்பட்ட
வகையில் அவர் சொத்தாக முடியாது. உண்மையில் பார்க்கப்போனால், இந்த உலகமே அவரது சொத்து. இப்படியிருக்க, இந்த இறைவனைப் பங்குபோட்டு, பிரித்து, அதனால், மக்களையும் பிரிக்கும் பல எண்ணங்கள் தவறானவை என்பதைச் சுட்டிக்காட்டும் விழா,
இந்தத் திருக்காட்சி திருநாள்.
கடவுளின் பெயரால், பிரிவுகளையும், பிளவுகளையும் உருவாக்கி, அவர் பெயரால், வன்முறைகளை வளர்க்கும் பல அடிப்படைவாதக் குழுக்களை, இந்நேரத்தில்
எண்ணிப் பார்ப்போம். 2023ம் ஆண்டு பிறந்ததும், இந்தியாவின் சத்தீஸ்கர் மாநிலத்தில், கிறிஸ்தவ கோவில் ஒன்று தாக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.
அந்தக் கோவிலில் மதமாற்றம் நிகழ்ந்தது என்ற காரணத்தைக் கூறி, வன்முறை கும்பல், அந்தக் கோவிலை தாக்கியுள்ளது. இந்தியாவில், கிறிஸ்தவர்களுக்கு
எதிராக நடத்தப்பட்ட வன்முறைத் தாக்குதல்கள், 2021ம் ஆண்டைவிட, 2022ம் ஆண்டில்
அதிகமாக இருந்தன என்று ஊடகங்கள் கூறுகின்றன. உத்தரப்பிரதேசம், சத்தீஸ்கர் மாநிலங்களில் அதிகம் இருந்ததாகவும், எண்ணிக்கையில், கடந்த ஆண்டுகளைக்
காட்டிலும் 2022ம் ஆண்டு இந்த தாக்குதல்கள், 511 என்ற அளவில் இருந்ததாகவும், ஊடகங்கள் கூறுகின்றன.
கடந்த சில ஆண்டுகளாக, வழிபாட்டுத் தலங்களில், மக்கள் கூடிவரும் வேளைகளில் நிகழ்ந்த குண்டுவெடிப்புக்கள்,
அப்பாவி மக்களின் உயிர்களை பலிவாங்கிவருவதை நாம் அறிவோம். நம்மை ஒரே குடும்பமாய் இணைக்க
விரும்பும் இறைவனின் இல்லமே, நம்மைச் சிதைக்கும் போர்க்களமாக மாறிவருவது மிகவும் வேதனை
தரும் ஒரு போக்கு. கடவுளின் பெயரால், பிரிவுகளையும் பிளவுகளையும் உருவாக்கும் எண்ணங்கள்,
இந்த புத்தாண்டில், வேரோடு களையப்பட வேண்டுமென முதலில் வேண்டிக்கொள்வோம்.
மனிதக் குடும்பம் அனைத்திற்கும் பொதுவானவர் இறைவன். திருக்காட்சிப்
பெருவிழா நமக்குச் சொல்லித் தரும் முதல் பாடம் இது. உண்மையான தாகத்துடன் தன்னைத் தேடும்
அனைவருக்கும் தன்னை வெளிப்படுத்தும் அழகுள்ளவர் நம் இறைவன். இது நாம் கற்றுகொள்ளக்கூடிய
இரண்டாவது பாடம். இன்னும் இதில் அழகு என்னவெனில், இறைவனைத் தேடி,
ஏழு கடல்களையும், மலைகளையும் தாண்டிச்செல்லத் தேவையில்லை. அவர் எப்போதும், எங்கும், நம்மைச் சூழ்ந்தே
இருக்கிறார். அவரைக் காண நாம் மறுத்து, அகக்கண்களை மூடிக்கொள்வதாலேயே, அவர் தூரமாய் இருப்பதைப்போல் உணர்கிறோம்.
இந்த மூன்று ஞானிகள் இயேசுவைச் சந்திக்க வந்த இந்நிகழ்வை,
பல கோணங்களில் நாம் சிந்திக்கலாம். விண்மீன்களின் ஒளியில், இந்த ஞானிகள் வழிநடந்தனர்
என்றும்,. இறைவனைச் சந்தித்தபின் இவர்கள் வேறு வழியாகச் சென்றனர் என்றும், நற்செய்தி சொல்கிறது.
வாழ்க்கையில் எந்த விண்மீன்களின் ஒளியில் நாம் நடக்கிறோம் என்று சிந்திக்கலாம். இறைவனைச்
சந்திக்கும்போதும்,
சந்தித்தபின்னரும் நம் வாழ்வுப் பாதையில் ஏற்படும் மாற்றங்களைப்பற்றி
சிந்திக்கலாம்.
விண்மீன்கள் என்றதும், மனதில் நட்சத்திரங்கள், ‘ஸ்டார்கள்’ என்ற சொற்கள் பல
எண்ணங்களை ஏற்படுத்துகின்றன. மழலையர் பள்ளியில் நான் பயின்ற Twinkle, twinkle little star என்ற பாடல் வரிகளில் ஆரம்பித்து, வாழ்க்கையில் ஸ்டார்களைப்
பற்றி எனக்கு ஊட்டிவிடப்பட்ட கருத்துக்கள் பலவும் நினைவுக்கு வருகின்றன. இந்தியாவில், அதிலும் முக்கியமாக, தமிழ் நாட்டில், பல ஸ்டார்களை நாம்
உருவாக்கிவிட்டதால்,
ஸ்டார்களுக்குப் பஞ்சம் இல்லாமல் போய்விட்டது. ஆனால், இந்த ஸ்டார்களைச் சுற்றி வட்டமிட்டு, தங்கள் வாழ்வை வீணாக்கும் விட்டில் பூச்சிகளை
– குறிப்பாக, இளைய தலைமுறையினரை - நினைத்து கவலையாய் இருக்கிறது.
இன்று நாம் கொண்டாடும் ஞானிகளை, "கிழக்கிலிருந்து வந்த
ஞானிகள்" என்று இன்றைய நற்செய்தி சொல்கிறது. இந்த ஞானிகள், இந்தியாவிலிருந்து, ஆசியாவிலிருந்து வந்தவர்கள் என்பது, ஒரு சில விவிலிய ஆய்வாளர்களின் கருத்து.
இந்த ஞானிகள், கோள்களையும், நட்சத்திரங்களையும் ஆய்ந்து அறிந்தவர்கள்.
இந்தியாவில், கோள்களை, நட்சத்திரங்களை
வைத்து வாழ்வின் பல முடிவுகள் எடுக்கப்படுவதை நினைத்துப் பார்க்கலாம். ஒருவர் பிறந்த தேதியால், பிறந்த நேரத்தால்
அவருக்குக் குறிக்கப்படும் நட்சத்திரம், அவரது வாழ்க்கையில் பெரும் தாக்கங்களை ஏற்படுத்துவதாக,
நம்மில் பலர் நம்பி வருகிறோம். இவ்வாறு, கோள்களும் விண்மீன்களும்
நம் வாழ்வை நடத்துவதாக நம்பி, நம்மையும், நம் குடும்பத்தையும்
வழிநடத்தும் பொறுப்பிலிருந்து நாம் விலகிப் போகிறோமா என்பதைச் சிந்தித்துப் பார்க்கலாம்.
திரைப்படங்கள், விளையாட்டு, அரசியல் ஆகிய உலகங்களில் உருவாகும் 'ஸ்டார்களையும்' நம் ஜாதகத்தில், கைரேகைகளில் பதிந்துவிட்ட 'நட்சத்திரங்களையும்' நம்பி வாழாமல், நல்வழிகாட்டும்
இலட்சியங்கள் என்ற விண்மீன்களை நாம் பின்பற்ற வேண்டும் என்பதை இந்த விழா நமக்குச் சொல்லித்
தருகிறது.
வானில் தோன்றிய ஒரு விண்மீனை தங்கள் எண்ணங்களிலிருந்து ஒதுக்கி
வைத்துவிட்டு, இந்த ஞானிகள் தங்கள் வழக்கமான வாழ்வைத் தொடர்ந்திருக்கலாம். ஆனால், அவர்கள், அந்த விண்மீனைத் தொடரத் தீர்மானித்தனர். அவர்களது தீர்மானத்தைக் கேட்டதும்,
அவரது குடும்பத்தினர்,
உறவினர், ஊர்மக்கள் அவர்களைக் கேள்வி கேட்டு வதைத்திருக்கலாம், கேலி
செய்திருக்கலாம். அவர்களது கேள்விகளும், கேலிகளும் இம்மூன்று
ஞானிகளின் உறுதியைக் குறைக்கவில்லை. அவர்கள் விண்மீனைத் தொடர்ந்தனர்.
விண்மீன் இரவில் மட்டுமே கண்ணுக்குத் தெரியும். பகலில் தெரியாது.
எனவே, இந்த ஞானிகள், இரவில் தங்கள் பயணத்தை அதிகம் செய்திருக்கவேண்டும். பயண
வசதிகள் அதிகம் இல்லாத அந்த யுகத்தில், இரவில் மேற்கொள்ளும் பயணங்கள் எளிதல்லவே. அதுவும்,
தூரத்தில் தெரியும் ஒரு சிறு விண்மீனை, பல்லாயிரம் விண்மீன்களுக்கு நடுவே, மீண்டும்,
மீண்டும், அடையாளம் கண்டு, அந்த விண்மீனைத் தொடர்வது, அவ்வளவு எளிதல்லவே. பல இரவுகளில்,
மேகங்களும், பனிமூட்டமும் அந்த விண்மீனை மறைத்திருக்கும். அந்த நேரங்களில், மேகமும், பனியும் விலகும்வரைக் காத்திருந்து, மீண்டும் விண்மீனைப் பார்த்து, அவர்கள்
நடந்திருக்க வேண்டும்!
அத்தனை இடர்பாடுகள் மத்தியிலும், ஒரே குறிக்கோளுடன், இரவு
நேரங்களில், பல ஆயிரம் மைல்கள் பயணம் செய்த அந்த ஞானிகளின் பொறுமையும், மன உறுதியும்,
நமக்கெல்லாம் நல்ல பாடங்கள்.
நாம் வாழும் அவசர உலகில், விண்மீன்களைப் பார்ப்பது
மிகவும் அரிது. நாம் வாழும் நகரங்களில், இரவும், பகலும், எரியும் செயற்கை விளக்குகளின்
ஒளியில், நாம் வானத்தையே மறந்துவாழ்கிறோம். வானத்தை நிமிர்ந்து பார்க்கக்கூட நமக்கு
இப்போது நேரமில்லை. எப்போது வானத்தைப் பார்ப்போம்? கருமேகம் சூழும்போது, "ஒருவேளை மழை வருமோ?" என்ற சந்தேகப் பார்வையோடு வானத்தைப் பார்ப்போம். அதேபோல், உள்ளத்தில் கருமேகங்கள் சூழும்போதும், மீண்டும் வானத்தைச் சந்தேகத்தோடு பார்க்கிறோம்...
கடவுள் என்ற ஒருவர் அங்கிருக்கிறாரா என்பதைத் தெரிந்துகொள்ள. சந்தேகம் என்பது கறுப்புக்
கண்ணாடி போன்றது. கறுப்புக் கண்ணாடியை அணிந்து கொண்டால், பார்ப்பது எல்லாமே கருமையாகத்தானே தெரியும்.
சந்தேகம் வரும்போது மட்டும் வானத்தைப் பார்த்தால், அங்கே கருமேகங்கள் மட்டுமே தெரியும். அந்தக் கருமேகங்களுக்குப் பின் கண்சிமிட்டும்
விண்மீன்கள் தெரியாது. அந்த விண்மீன்கள் விடுக்கும் அழைப்பும் தெரியாது. கருமேகங்களைத்
தாண்டி விண்மீன்களைப் பார்ப்பதற்கு, நமது உடல் கண்கள் பயனற்றவை. மனக் கண்கள் தேவை.
அன்பு மருத்துவர் அல்லது காதல் மருத்துவர் (Dr Love) என்று புகழ்பெற்ற அமெரிக்க பேராசிரியரும், எழுத்தாளருமான லியோ புஸ்காலியா (Leo Buscaglia) அவர்கள் பகிர்ந்துகொண்ட ஓர் நிகழ்வு இது: அவர் தென் கலிபோர்னியா பல்கலைக் கழகத்தில் பணிசெய்தபோது,
அவரிடம், Joel என்ற மாணவர் படித்துவந்தார். மிகச்சிறந்த அறிவும், பல்வேறு திறமைகளும் கொண்டவர் Joel. பாரம்பரியம்மிக்க யூத குடும்பத்தில் பிறந்து வளர்ந்திருந்தாலும், கடவுளையும்,
யூத மத நியதிகளையும் விட்டு வெகுதூரம் விலகிச் சென்றார் Joel. ஏன் வாழ்கிறோம் என்பது தெரியாமல் குழம்பிப்போன அவர், ஒருநாள் தன் வாழ்வை முடித்துக்கொள்ள தீர்மானித்தார்.
யார் தடுத்தும் கேட்காத அவர், தான் சாவதற்கு முன், தன் அபிமான ஆசிரியர் லியோ புஸ்காலியா அவர்களைச் சந்திக்கச்
சென்றார். அவரிடம் தான் எடுத்திருந்த முடிவைச் சொன்னார். "உன் வாழ்வை முடித்துக்
கொள்வதற்கு முன், நமது பல்கலைக்கழகத்திற்கு அருகில் உள்ள வயது முதிர்ந்தோர் இல்லத்திற்குச் சென்று

அங்குள்ளவர்களில், யார், எந்த ஓர் உறவினரும் வராமல், பல மாதங்கள் அல்லது வருடங்கள்
காத்திருக்கிறார்களோ, அவர்களைச் சென்று பார்." என்று லியோ சொன்னதும், Joel, "அவர்களிடம் என்ன சொல்ல வேண்டும்?" என்று கேட்டார்.
"என்ன சொல்ல வேண்டும் என்பதை நீயே தீர்மானித்துக் கொள்.. ஆனால், அவர்களுக்கு வாழ்வில் ஒரு பிடிப்பை, நம்பிக்கையை உண்டாக்கும்
எதையாவது சொல்" என்று சொல்லி அனுப்பினார். பிறருக்குக் கொடுப்பதன் வழியாக நாம்
வாழ்வில் அர்த்தத்தைப் பெறமுடியும் என்பதே லியோ கொடுத்த இந்த ஆலோசனையில் பொதிந்திருந்த
இரகசியம்.
இந்த சந்திப்பிற்குப் பின், Joelக்கு என்ன ஆயிற்று என்பதை லியோ புஸ்காலியா மறந்துவிட்டார். ஒரு நாள், அவர் பல்கலைக் கழகத்தில் நடைபெற்ற ஒரு விளையாட்டுப் போட்டிக்குப் போய்க்கொண்டிருந்தபோது, Joel ஒரு பேருந்தில் வந்து இறங்கினார். அவருடன் முதியோர் இல்லத்திலிருந்து பத்து
அல்லது பதினைந்து பேர் இறங்கினர். அவர்களில் மூன்று பேர் சக்கர நாற்காலியில் அமர்ந்தபடி

விரக்தியால் வாழ்வின் விளிம்புக்குத் தள்ளப்பட்ட Joel, அடுத்தவருக்கு உதவ வேண்டும் என்ற விண்மீன் கொடுத்த அழைப்பை ஏற்றதால், அவரது வாழ்வு முற்றிலும் மாறியது. இதயத்தின் கண்களைத் திறந்து பார்த்தால், இவ்வுலகில் பல அதிசயங்களைப் பார்க்கலாம். அந்த அதிசயங்களின் ஊற்றான இறைவனையும்
பார்க்கலாம். இதைத்தான் கீழ்த்திசை ஞானிகள் மூவர் இன்று நமக்குச் சொல்லித் தருகின்றனர்.
உண்மையான விண்மீன்களைப் பார்த்ததால், அந்த விண்மீன் காட்டிய பாதையில் சென்று, இறைவனைக் கண்டதால், தங்கள் வாழ்க்கைப் பாதையையே மாற்றிய ஞானிகளைப் போல் எத்தனையோ நல்ல உள்ளங்கள்
தங்களையும், உலகத்தையும் மாற்றியிருக்கிறார்கள். தடைகள் பல எழுந்தாலும், தளராமல் விண்மீன்களைத் தொடர்ந்து, இறைவனைக் காண்பதற்கு
இப்புத்தாண்டின் துவக்கத்தில் நமக்கும் மனஉறுதியைத் தந்து, இறைவன் வழிநடத்த வேண்டுவோம்.
