October 12, 2010. Midnight. Most of Chile was awake with anticipation. At 12.10 a.m. on October 13, a narrow tube like structure emerged out of the rocks and out came Florencio Avalos, a 31 year old miner. His seven year old son and his wife ran to him with tears streaming down their cheeks. Florencio embraced them and kissed them. The whole nation erupted in joy. This cheer and joy continued every hour following this incident. The joy and pride of this nation matched the joy and pride of USA on July 20, 1969 when Neil Armstrong set foot on the moon. Setting foot on the moon was surely a great achievement for Armstrong, for USA as well as for humankind. Equally great was the achievement of the 33 miners from Chile setting foot on the earth after 69 days.

On August 5, 2010, 33 miners entered their usual shift, 2500 feet below the ground level, in the copper and gold mines in Atacama region. A landslide deposited 700,000 tonnes of rock to block the passage. All the 33 miners were literally buried alive. Efforts at contacting them failed and hope began to dwindle. After 17 days, on August 22, they were located and a note saying that all the 33 were alive was sent through a hole. Locating them after 17 long days of suspense, was the first miracle. Initial calculations predicted that it would take anywhere between 3 to 4 months to rescue the miners. So, the families were reconciled to be united to their loved ones for Christmas. The continual efforts bore fruit and all the 33 miners were saved in half the time predicted earlier.

The rescue operation in Chile has a special significance to our liturgical readings today, especially the first reading from Exodus (17: 8-13) and the Gospel passage from Luke (18: 1-8). Both the readings speak of the role of prayer in the midst of struggles we face in our lives.

Religious activities of trapped miners

When a shaft was completed to provide relief for the men, they asked for religious items, including Bibles, crucifixes, rosaries, statues of the Virgin Mary and other saints. Pope Benedict XVI sent each man a rosary which was brought personally to the mine by the archbishop of Santiago, Cardinal, Francisco Javier Errázuriz Ossa. After three weeks in the mine, one man who was civilly married to his wife 25 years earlier asked her to marry him in a sacramental marriage in the Church. They set up a makeshift chapel in the mine, and Mario Gómez, the eldest miner, spiritually counselled his cohorts and led daily prayers. When they were rescued the miners were all wearing similar t-shirts. The T-shirts, sent down by a brother of one of the miners had "Thank you Lord" on the front and "To Him be the glory and honor" on the back. The quotation was taken from the Book of Psalms 95 verse 4: "...in his hands are the depths of the earth."

As one story in the Daily Mail put it "A deep religious faith powered this rescue; miners and families and rescuers alike believe their prayers were answered." Both government representatives and the Chilean public have repeatedly attributed divine providence with keeping the miners alive and the Chilean public has viewed this rescue operation as a miracle. Chile's president Sebastián Piñera stated, "When the first miner emerges safe and sound, I hope all the bells of all the churches of Chile ring out forcefully, with joy and hope. Faith has moved mountains." When Esteban Rojas, one of the miners, stepped out of the rescue device, he immediately knelt on the ground with his hands together in prayer then raised his arms above him in adoration. His wife then wrapped around him a religious tapestry with Mary on it as they hugged and cried. Though most of the trapped miners were Roman Catholic, three were Protestant or Baptist, and two others were converted during the time.

The trapped miners praying together, while stuck in the belly of the earth, reminds me of Jonah’s prayer in the belly of the whale as well as the early Christians holding underground prayer meetings. Their faith was nurtured by these prayers as well as by the imageries their leaders provided them with. One such imagery often used by early Christians is the mythic bird phoenix. It is significant that the tube like capsule used for bringing the Chilean miners to the surface was named ‘phoenix’, to remind people of the legendary bird which rises out of ashes. The whole operation was named ‘Operation St Lawrence’, the patron of miners. The statue of St Lawrence was taken in a procession around the accident site.

Dire needs bring people to their knees, as it brought Moses. Once the needs are fulfilled, do we forget prayer? The answer lies in the passages from Luke’s Gospel for today as well for the 17^th Sunday in Ordinary Time – Luke 11: 1-13 and Luke 18: 1-8.  In both these passages Jesus gives us lovely lessons on prayer, not as a lofty philosophical treatise, but as simple life stories. Isn’t Christ telling us clearly, that prayer should become part of our life and not remain as a subject of intellectual discussion or an antidote used only during emergencies and dire needs? Prayer is the air we breathe, not an oxygen mask!

There are hundreds of stories about the power of prayer. Here is one of them I received via email. It is titled: How much does a prayer weigh?

Louise Redden, a poorly dressed lady with a look of defeat on her face, walked into a grocery store. She approached the owner of the store in a most humble manner and asked if he would let her charge a few groceries. She softly explained that her husband was very ill and unable to work, they had seven children and they needed food. John Longhouse, the grocer, scoffed at her and requested that she leave his store.

Visualizing the family needs, she said: 'Please, sir! I will bring you the money just as soon as I can." John told her he could not give her credit, as she did not have a charge account at his store.  Standing beside the counter was a customer who overheard the conversation between the two. The customer walked forward and told the grocer that he would stand good for whatever she needed for her family. The grocer said in a very reluctant voice, "Do you have a grocery list?” Louise replied "Yes sir" "O.K." he said, "put your grocery list on the scales and whatever your grocery list weighs, I will give you that amount in groceries."

Louise, hesitated a moment with a bowed head, then she reached into her purse and took out a piece of paper and scribbled something on it. She then laid the piece of paper on the scale carefully with her head  still bowed. The eyes of the grocer and the customer showed amazement when the scales went down and stayed down. The grocer staring at the scales, turned slowly to the customer and said begrudgingly, "I can't believe it."        

The customer smiled and the grocer started putting the groceries on the other side of the scales. The scale did not balance so he continued to put more and more groceries on them until the scales would hold no more. The grocer stood there in utter disgust. Finally, he grabbed the piece of paper from the scales and looked at it with greater amazement. It was not a grocery list, it was a prayer which said:  "Dear Lord, you know my needs and I am leaving this in your hands." The grocer gave her the groceries that he had gathered and placed on the scales and stood in stunned silence. Louise thanked him and left the store. The customer handed a fifty-dollar bill to John as he said, "It was worth every penny of it." It was sometime later that John Longhouse discovered the scales were broken; therefore, only God knows how much a prayer weighs.

A final thought… Today, October 20, the Catholic Church celebrates Mission Sunday. When I was thinking how best to combine Mission Sunday with the readings on prayer given to us today, the image of St Teresa of Child Jesus flashed across my mind. She, along with St Francis Xavier, are declared as the Patrons of Mission Countries. One can easily understand why St Francis Xavier is proclaimed as the Patron of Missions, since he travelled far and wide in quite a few Mission Countries and brought people to Christ and Christ to the people. St Teresa did not leave the portals of her cloistered convent. All she did was to pray. Her prayers led many to Christ. Hence, Mission is to be seen both as proclamation as well as prayer. In such a context, readings on prayer make much sense for the Mission Sunday! We pray the good Lord to enlighten our hearts and minds to make prayer an integral part of our lives and thus become Missionaries in our own right!

மூன்று ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன்னர், 2010ம் ஆண்டு, உலகமக்களின் கவனத்தை ஈர்த்த ஓர் அற்புத நிகழ்ச்சி அக்டோபர் 12, நள்ளிரவு நிகழ்ந்தது. தென் அமெரிக்காவைச் சார்ந்த சிலே நாட்டில் மக்கள் தூங்காமல் விழித்திருந்தனர். நள்ளிரவு தாண்டி பத்து நிமிடங்களில், அந்த நாடே மகிழ்ச்சி ஆரவாரத்தில் வெடித்தது.

சிலே நாட்டின் Atacama என்ற பகுதியில் பாறையான நிலப்பரப்பில், துளை ஒன்று செய்யப்பட்டிருந்தது. அந்தத் துளை வழியே, குழாய் வடிவக் கருவி ஒன்று வெளியே வந்தது. அந்தக் குழாயிலிருந்து Florencio Avalos என்ற இளைஞர் வெளியேறினார். கண்ணீருடன் ஓடிவந்த அவரது மகன் Bairoவையும், தன் மனைவியையும் கட்டி அணைத்து முத்தமிட்டார் Florencio. இந்தக் காட்சியைக் கண்டு பலரது கண்களில் ஆனந்த கண்ணீர். பூமிக்கடியில் ஏறத்தாழ எழுபது நாட்கள் புதையுண்டிருந்த 33 சுரங்கத் தொழிலாளர்கள் உயிரோடு மீட்கப்பட்டச் சாதனையை, சிலே நாடும், இவ்வுலகமும் மகிழ்ச்சி ஆரவாரத்துடன் அன்றிரவு கொண்டாடியது.

சிலே நாட்டுச் சாதனை உங்களில் பலருக்குத் தெரிந்திருக்கலாம். இருந்தாலும் அவற்றின் ஒரு சில விவரங்களை மீண்டும் அசைபோட உங்களை அழைக்கிறேன். 2010ம் ஆண்டு ஆகஸ்ட் 5ம் தேதி சிலே நாட்டின் Atacama பகுதியில் தாமிரம், மற்றும் தங்கம் வெட்டியெடுக்கும் சுரங்கம் ஒன்றில் 33 தொழிலாளர்கள் தங்கள் வேலைகளில் ஈடுபட்டிருந்தனர். அப்போது ஏற்பட்ட ஒரு நிலச்சரிவால் ஏழு இலட்சம் டன் எடையுள்ள பாறைகள் சுரங்கப் பாதையை அடைத்துவிட்டன. அந்த 33 தொழிலாளர்களும் நிலத்திற்கடியில் 2,500 அடி ஆழத்தில் உயிரோடு புதைக்கப்பட்டனர். போராட்டம் ஆரம்பமானது. அவர்களைக் கண்டுபிடிக்க எடுக்கப்பட்ட அத்தனை முயற்சிகளும் தோற்றுப்போயின. 17 நாட்கள் கழித்து, ஆகஸ்ட் 22ம் தேதி அவர்கள் அனைவரும் உயிருடன் இருந்தது கண்டுபிடிக்கப்பட்டது. இதையே ஒரு புதுமை என்று பலர் கூறினர். சுரங்கத் தொழிலாளர்களை மீட்கும் முயற்சிகள் ஆரம்பமாயின. 50 நாட்கள் மேற்கொள்ளப்பட்ட பல்வேறு முயற்சிகளின் சிகரமாக, அக்டோபர் 12 நள்ளிரவு துவங்கி, அக்டோபர் 14ம் தேதி அதிகாலை வரை 33 தொழிலாளர்களும் வெளியேற்றப்பட்டனர். இந்த நிகழ்வை இவ்வளவு விவரமாகக் கூறுவதற்குக் காரணம் இன்றைய ஞாயிறு வாசகங்களே.

2010ம் ஆண்டு, ஆகஸ்ட் மாதம் நிகழ்ந்த இந்த விபத்து உலகின் கவனத்தைப் பல வழிகளில் ஈர்த்தது. புதையுண்ட இத்தொழிலாளர்களுக்கு உதவிகள் பல வழிகளில் அனுப்பப்பட்டன. உடல் அளவில் அவர்களுக்குச் செய்யப்பட்ட உதவிகளை விட, அவர்கள் உள்ளத்தில் நம்பிக்கையை வளர்க்க வழங்கப்பட்ட ஆன்மீக உதவிகள், செப உதவிகள் ஏராளம்.

அப்போது திருத்தந்தையாக இருந்த 16ம் பெனடிக்ட் அவர்கள், தன் கைப்பட ஆசீர்வதித்த செபமாலைகளை அனுப்பிவைத்தார். இத்தொழிலாளர்கள் தாங்கள் அடைபட்டிருந்த இடத்தில் சிறு பீடம் ஒன்றை அமைத்து, செபித்துவந்தனர் என்பதை இவர்கள் தங்கள் பகிர்வுகளில் பின்னர் வெளியிட்டனர். இதைக் கேள்விப்பட்டபோது, பழங்கால உரோமைய அரசில் முதல் கிறிஸ்தவர்கள் வாழ்ந்த வாழ்வு என் நினைவில் அலைமோதியது. அங்கு, அரசுக்குத் தெரியாமல் பூமிக்கடியில், அல்லது பல மறைவிடங்களில் கூடி வந்து செபித்த கிறிஸ்தவர்களை எண்ணிப் பார்த்தேன். உயிருக்கு எவ்வித உத்திரவாதமும் இல்லாத நிலையில் ஒவ்வொரு நாளும் வாழ்ந்த முதல் கிறிஸ்தவர்களுக்கு உறுதி தந்ததெல்லாம் அவர்கள் கூடிவந்து செபித்த நேரங்கள். இன்றும் உலகின் சில நாடுகளில் கிறிஸ்தவர்கள் இதே நிலையில் துன்புறுவதை நாம் நினைவில் கொண்டு, அவர்களுக்காக இறைவனிடம் நம் செபங்களை எழுப்புவோம்.

சிலே நாட்டின் Atacama பகுதியில் மீட்புப் பணி துவங்கிய நேரம் முதல், சுரங்கத் தொழிலாளர்களின் பாதுகாவலராகிய புனித இலாரன்ஸ் அவர்களின் திரு உருவைத் தாங்கி செப ஊர்வலங்கள் இச்சுரங்கப் பகுதியில் மேற்கொள்ளப்பட்டன. அக்டோபர் 12 முதல் சிலே நாட்டின் பல கோவில்களில் தொடர் செபவழிபாடுகள், முழு இரவு விழிப்புச் செபங்கள், உண்ணா நோன்பு என்ற பல ஆன்மீக முயற்சிகள் மேற்கொள்ளப்பட்டன. இந்தச் சாதனை முடிந்ததும், அந்நாட்டின் ஆயர் ஒருவர் கூறிய வார்த்தைகள் இவை: "சிலே நாடு, இன்று உயிர்ப்பின் நம்பிக்கைக்குச் சான்று பகர்ந்துள்ளது."

நம்பிக்கை ஆண்டின் இறுதி நாட்களை நெருங்கி வந்துள்ள நாம், நம்பிக்கையுடன் செபிப்பதைக் குறித்து சிந்திக்க இந்த ஞாயிறன்று அழைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளோம். மேலும், இந்த ஞாயிறு நாம் கொண்டாடும் மறைபரப்பு ஞாயிறன்று செபத்தின் வலிமை பற்றி சிந்திக்க அழைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளதை ஓர் அர்த்தமுள்ள வாய்ப்பாகக் கருதலாம்.

மறைபரப்பு ஞாயிறன்று செபத்தைப் பற்றிய வாசகங்கள் ஏன் என்று சிந்தித்தபோது, மனதில் முதலில் தோன்றியது குழந்தை இயேசுவின் புனித தெரேசா. இம்மாதம் முதல் தேதியன்று நாம் கொண்டாடிய இப்புனிதர், மறைபரப்புப் பணிகளின் காவலர் என்ற பெருமைக்குரியவர். பல்லாயிரம் மைல்கள் பயணம் செய்து கிறிஸ்துவை பல கோடி மக்களுக்கு அறிமுகம் செய்த புனித பிரான்சிஸ் சேவியரும், ஒரு மைல் கூட பயணம் செய்யாமல், தான் வாழ்ந்த துறவு மடத்தில் செபங்கள் செய்த புனித தெரேசாவும் மறைபரப்புப் பணியின் காவலர்கள் என்று திருஅவை அறிவித்துள்ளது.

புனித சேவியர் தன் போதனைகளால் பல்லாயிரம் உள்ளங்களை இறைவனிடம் அழைத்து வந்ததுபோல், புனித தெரேசாவும் தன் செபங்களால் பல்லாயிரம் மனங்களை இறைவனிடம் கொணர்ந்தார். மறைபரப்புப் பணியில், இறைவனைப் பறைசாற்றுதல் எவ்வளவு முக்கியமோ, அதேபோல் இறைவனை நோக்கி எழுப்பப்படும் செபங்களும் முக்கியம் என்பதை நாம் ஆழமாக உணர இந்த ஞாயிறன்று செபத்தைப் பற்றிய வாசகங்கள் நமக்குத் தரப்பட்டுள்ளன என்று எண்ணிப் பார்க்கலாம்.

கடுகளவு நம்பிக்கை இருந்தால், அந்த நம்பிக்கையுடன் செபங்கள் எழுப்பப்பட்டால், மலைகள் பெயர்ந்துவிடும், மரங்கள் வேருடன் எடுக்கப்பட்டு, கடலில் நடப்படும். எரிக்கோவின் மதில்கள் இடிந்துவிழும் என்ற நம்பிக்கை தரும் சொற்கள் விவிலியத்தில் உள்ளன.

செபத்தின் வல்லமையால் இஸ்ரயேல் மக்கள் போரில் வெற்றி கொள்வதை, விடுதலைப் பயண நூலிலிருந்து எடுக்கப்பட்ட இன்றைய முதல் வாசகம் (விடுதலைப் பயணம் 17: 8-13) நமக்குக் கூறுகிறது. மத்தியக் கிழக்குப் பகுதியின் பல நாடுகளுக்கும், கனவிலும், நனவிலும் அச்சமூட்டுபவர்களாக இருந்தவர்கள் அமலேக்கியர்கள். அவர்களை எதிர்க்க யாருக்கும் துணிவு இல்லை. அவர்கள் இஸ்ரயேலர்களுக்கு எதிராகப் போர் தொடுக்க வந்தனர். இந்தச் செய்தியே இஸ்ரயேலரின் நம்பிக்கையைக் குலைத்து, அவர்களது தோல்வியை உறுதி செய்திருக்க வேண்டும். ஆனால், மோசேயின் செபம் அவர்களை வெற்றியடையச் செய்தது.

செபத்தின் வலிமையால் எதிர்வரும் சக்திகளை முறியடிக்கலாம் என்பதை விடுதலைப் பயண நூல் வாசகம் சொல்கிறது. மனம் தளராமல் செபிப்பதால், நீதியை நிலை நிறுத்த முடியும் என்பதை லூக்கா நற்செய்தி (லூக்கா 18: 1-8) சொல்கிறது. தொடர்ந்து செபியுங்கள், தளராது செபியுங்கள், உடல் வலிமை, மன உறுதி இவை குலைந்தாலும், பிறர் உங்களைத் தாங்கிப் பிடிக்க, தொடர்ந்து செபியுங்கள்... என்று இவ்வாசகங்கள் வழியே நமக்குத் தரப்பட்டுள்ள எண்ணங்கள், சவால்கள் நிறைந்த பாடங்கள்.

”அவர்கள் மனந்தளராமல் எப்பொழுதும் இறைவனிடம் மன்றாட வேண்டும் என்பதற்கு இயேசு ஓர் உவமை சொன்னார்” என்று இன்றைய நற்செய்தி ஆரம்பமாகிறது (லூக்கா 18: 1) இறைவனுக்கு அஞ்சாமல், மனிதர்களை மதிக்காமல், ஊழலில் ஊறிப்போன நடுவரிடம், ஒரு கைம்பெண் நீதி பெறுகிறார்... இலஞ்சம் கொடுத்துப் பெறவேண்டியதை, இலட்சிய வெறிகொண்டு பெறுகிறார். நல்லது கெட்டது என்பதையெல்லாம் பார்க்க மறுத்து, பாறையாகிப்போன நடுவரின் மனதைத் தன் தொடர்ந்த வேண்டுதல் முயற்சிகளால் தகர்த்துவிடுகிறார் அந்தக் கைம்பெண்.

செபத்தைக் குறித்து, செபிப்பதைக் குறித்து பல நூறு கதைகள் உள்ளன. என் மனதில் இடம் பிடித்த ஒரு கதை இது. இக்கதையின் தலைப்பே நம் கவனத்தை ஈர்க்கும். ‘செபத்தின் எடை’ (How much does a prayer weigh?) என்பதே இக்கதையின் தலைப்பு.

மளிகைக்கடை ஒன்றில் நடப்பதாக இக்கதை கூறப்பட்டுள்ளது. மளிகைக்கடை முதலாளியிடம் ஓர் ஏழைப்பெண் வந்து, தன் குடும்பத்திற்கு அன்றிரவு மட்டும் உணவு தயாரிக்கத் தேவையான பொருள்களைக் கடனாகத் தரும்படி கெஞ்சினார். அப்பெண்ணின் கணவர் உடல்நலமின்றி, வேலைக்குப் போகமுடியாமல் இருந்தார். அவர்களுக்கு ஏழு குழந்தைகள். அவர்கள் அனைவரும் கடந்த சில நாட்களாக பட்டினியால் தவித்தனர் என்பதைக் கூறி, உதவிகேட்ட அப்பெண்ணை அவ்விடத்தைவிட்டு துரத்திக் கொண்டிருந்தார் கடை முதலாளி.

கடையில் பொருள்கள் வாங்கிவிட்டு, அதற்குரிய பணத்தைச் செலுத்த வந்த ஒருவர், இந்தக் காட்சியைக் கண்டு மனமிரங்கி, அந்த முதலாளியிடம், "அந்தப் பெண்ணுக்குத் தேவையானதைக் கொடுங்கள். நான் அதற்குரிய பணத்தைத் தருகிறேன்" என்று சொன்னார். முதலாளி சலிப்புடன் அந்தப் பெண்ணிடம், "சரி, உனக்குத் தேவையான பொருள்களை இந்தக் காகிதத்தில் எழுதி, தராசில் வை. அந்தக் காகிதத்திற்கு ஈடான எடைக்கு நான் பொருள்களைத் தருகிறேன்" என்று ஏளனமாகச் சொன்னபடி, அப்பெண்ணிடம் ஒரு காகிதத்தைக் கொடுத்தார். காகிதத்தைப் பெற்றுக்கொண்ட அப்பெண், ஒரு நிமிடம் கண்களை மூடி செபித்தார். பின்னர், அந்தக் காகிதத்தில் எதையோ எழுதி, தராசில் அதை வைத்தார். காகிதத் துண்டு வைக்கப்பட்ட தராசுத்தட்டு கீழிறங்கியது. இதைப் பார்த்த முதலாளிக்கு அதிர்ச்சியாக இருந்தது. அப்பெண்ணுக்கு பணஉதவி செய்ய வந்திருந்தவரும் இதைக் கண்டு ஆச்சரியம் அடைந்தார்.

"சரி, உனக்குத் தேவையானப் பொருள்களை மற்றொரு தட்டில் வை" என்று எரிச்சலுடன் சொன்னார் முதலாளி. தனக்குத் தேவையான அரிசி, பருப்பு, எண்ணெய், ஆகியவற்றை அந்தப் பெண் அடுத்தத் தட்டில் வைத்தார். அவர் எவ்வளவு வைத்தாலும், காகிதம் வைத்திருந்த தட்டு மேலே எழவில்லை. அந்தப் பெண் தராசில் வைத்த பொருள்களை வேண்டா வெறுப்பாக அவரிடம் கொடுத்தார் முதலாளி. அருகில் இருந்தவர், ‘தான் கண்ட இப்புதுமைக்கு எவ்வளவு கொடுத்தாலும் தகும்’ என்று சொல்லியபடியே, மகிழ்ச்சியுடன் அதற்கு உரிய பணத்தையும் கொடுத்தார். அந்த ஏழைப்பெண் சென்றபின், கடை முதலாளி தராசைச் சோதித்தபோது, அது பழுதடைந்து விட்டதென்பதைப் புரிந்துகொண்டார். பின்னர், அந்த ஏழைப்பெண் தராசில் வைத்த காகிதத் துண்டை எடுத்துப் பார்த்தார், முதலாளி. அந்தக் காகிதத்தில், பொருள்களின் பட்டியல் எதுவும் எழுதப்படவில்லை. மாறாக, அப்பெண் காகிதத்தில் ஒரு சிறு செபத்தை எழுதியிருந்தார். "இறைவா, எங்கள் தேவை என்னவென்று உமக்கு நன்றாகத் தெரியும். எங்கள் தேவையை நிறைவு செய்தருளும்" என்பதே அந்தச் செபம்.

‘செபத்தின் எடை’ என்ற இக்கதையை நான் வாசித்தபோது, என் மனதில் ஆழமான எண்ணங்களை உருவாக்கிய பகுதி, அந்தக் காகிதம் வைக்கப்பட்டத் தராசுத் தட்டு கீழிறங்கி நின்றதும், கடை முதலாளி அதிர்ச்சியில் உறைந்துபோனதும்... காற்றில் பறக்கும் அளவுக்கு கனமற்ற காகிதம், கனமான உலோகத்தால் ஆன தராசையும் கட்டி வைக்கும் திறன் பெறுகிறது. எதனால்? அப்பெண் காகிதத்தில் பதித்த செபத்தால்; கடவுளின் கருணையால்… ‘செபத்தின் எடை’ என்ன? அது வெளியாகும் மனதில் உள்ள பாரத்தைப் பொறுத்து, செபத்தின் எடையும் கூடும்.

செபம் எவ்வளவு கனமானது எவ்வளவு வலிமைமிக்கது என்பது கடவுளுக்கு மட்டுமே தெரியும். செபத்தைக் குறித்து, தொடர்ந்து செபிப்பதைக் குறித்து நமது எண்ணங்களை தெளிவுபடுத்த, உள்ளங்களை உறுதிபடுத்த, செபம் நமது வாழ்வின் இன்றியமையாத ஒரு பகுதியாக மாற இறைவனிடம் வரம் வேண்டுவோம்.
