Every year, at the beginning of the month of August, haunting memories of Hiroshima and Nagasaki flood our memory. The gory details of this human massacre are well-known. So, let us not go over those statistics. They can only feed our curiosity. Has Hiroshima and Nagasaki become only museum pieces to be visited once a year or, are they schools where we can learn a lesson or two?

I am afraid that even Japan is treating this tragedy as a ‘treasured museum piece’. Why do I say this? If Japan had treated Hiroshima and Nagasaki as schools, then Fukushima would not have happened. After Fukushima nuclear threat, Japan began to close down its atomic plants one by one. But this period of ‘enlightenment’ ended soon. Unfortunately, Japan has begun reopening its atomic plants once again!

Sadly, Japan as well as the whole world are madly… MADLY… in love with nuclear energy still. On a day like this, we need to focus on our tragic romance with nuclear energy. The cenotaph at the Hiroshima Peace Park is inscribed with an ambiguous sentence: "Let all the souls here rest in peace; For we shall not repeat the evil" It is true that after Hiroshima and Nagasaki, this evil has not been repeated, namely, atom bombs have not been used on human beings directly. But with innumerable nuclear testing done, deep inside the earth’s surface and in the sea, the evil of ‘atomic energy’ is unleashed on planet earth and the long lasting effects of the nuclear radiation is borne by unsuspecting, simple folks all over the world. From Hiroshima to Fukushima nuclear mistakes have been, and, still being repeated – all over the world! This begins our reflections…

Why are mistakes repeated? There could be hundred of reasons. The first and the most obvious reason is this: When mistakes are covered up with falsehood and made to look like the right thing, they tend to be repeated. The mistake of the U.S. government, to attack Japan with atomic bombs, was well covered up. Delayed information, distorted information, downright lies accompanied the dropping of the atomic bombs.

When the atom bomb was dropped on Hiroshima, it was 8.15 a.m. in Japan. It was still night in the U.S. and the people were asleep. One can see that this nation is still struggling to wake up from this sleep and find out the real truth.

The stand taken by the Christians in the U.S. soon after the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, was remarkable. In 1946, a report by the Federal Council of Churches entitled Atomic Warfare and the Christian Faith, includes the following passage:"As American Christians, we are deeply penitent for the irresponsible use already made of the atomic bomb. We are agreed that, whatever be one's judgment of the war in principle, the surprise bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki are morally indefensible." (Wikipedia)

When the mistakes are not covered up in lies, we can surely learn from those mistakes, since truth will always set us free. But, unfortunately, every government in the world is dishing out lies as far as nuclear warheads are concerned. Nuclear arsenal had become even ‘toys’ for two Presidents last year. It was downright pathetic to see how the Presidents of North Korea and the U.S. were making flippant remarks on their nuclear power.

As if the threat of nuclear warheads is not enough, every country is moving in the direction of building more and more nuclear plants. On this front as well, lots of lies have been told about the safety of a nuclear plant and about the different accidents that have happened in nuclear plants. Globally, there have been at least 99 (civilian and military) recorded nuclear power plant accidents from 1952 to 2009 that either resulted in the loss of human life and/or property damage. Out of these 99, only one had been talked about and that was Chernobyl in Russia (1986). After 2009, Fukushima is a well-known nuclear plant accident (2011). The rest have been kept ‘top-secret’. Here is my simple (you may call this ‘simplistic’) conclusion: Nuclear energy can flourish only on the seedbed of lies!

Why are we so madly in love with nuclear energy? Is there no other alternative? I am not a scientist and hence my answer to this question cannot be scientific. But I am a believer. My belief says that our world can survive, in fact, flourish in safer environment if we depend on other natural sources of energy – wind, water, sunlight… My belief says that the universe is designed in such a way that it can sustain itself when we are able to tap the sources appropriately. The catch words are: tap and appropriately… Unfortunately, our present generation has not tapped natural sources of energy but has exploited them indiscriminately!

Our natural sources of energy can surely sustain the whole of humanity, provided we decide to satisfy our needs and not our greed - our unbridled, unlimited desires of accumulation. The powerful words of Mahatma Gandhi seem ever relevant: “The world has enough for everyone's need, but not enough for everyone's greed.” Our madness of accumulation and pampering of self above everything else has created more demands on our resources. Since nature could not satisfy our mad rush for more and MORE… we looked for artificial sources of energy. Look, where we have landed up… We have landed on a planet that is waiting to explode any time.

The proposal of ‘tapping our natural resources appropriately’, may sound too naïve for us living in the 21^st Century. This is due to the ‘indoctrination’ we have been subjected to which makes us believe that relying on our natural resources, will take us back to the ‘stone-age’! On the other hand, the ‘rapid progress’ that exploits nature and environment may soon take us to the ‘ice-age’! We are reminded of the famous quote attributed to Albert Einstein that alludes to our distorted progress. “I do not know with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones.” - Albert Einstein.

If we wish to avoid the total catastrophe of our planet earth, what do we do? God the Father has a simple solution to offer in the first reading today: Then the LORD said to Moses, “Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather a day's portion every day, that I may prove them, whether they will walk in my law or not.” (Exodus 16: 4)

Gather only what is needed for the day and not more. Only on the sixth day they were allowed to gather for two days. We see later in this chapter that there were people who did not obey this instruction and gathered more than what they really needed. Greed took upper hand over Need. These were the ancestors of some of the world leaders today who have accumulated mind boggling amount of wealth. We are reminded of a president’s wife who had accumulated more than 1000 pairs of footwear, a chief minister who had more than 1000 dresses, most of which she did not get to wear in her life time, a president who had made his bath tub and toilet seat in pure gold… this list is endless!  Will they carry their ‘collections’ beyond the grave?

And the people of Israel did so; they gathered, some more, some less... He that gathered much had nothing over, and he that gathered little had no lack; each gathered according to what he could eat. And Moses said to them, "Let no man leave any of it till the morning." But they did not listen to Moses; some left part of it till the morning, and it bred worms and became foul; and Moses was angry with them. Morning by morning they gathered it, each as much as he could eat; but when the sun grew hot, it melted. (Ex. 16: 17-21)

The insatiable desire to accumulate leads one to find short-cuts and least-resistant-routes to satisfy their greed. The people who went searching for Jesus were greedy to get ‘free-meal’ every day. Jesus does not mince words in pointing out this greed: “Truly, truly, I say to you, you seek me, not because you saw signs, but because you ate your fill of the loaves.” (John 6: 26)

In the gospel today Jesus gives another simple solution in the very next line : “Do not labor for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to eternal life, which the Son of man will give to you; for on him has God the Father set his seal.” (John 6: 27)

The solutions given in both these readings, sound extremely simple. We can give them a try. Otherwise, we need to build more temples (nuclear plants) to worship nuclear energy!

ஆகஸ்ட் மாதம் ஆரம்பமானதும், நம் நினைவுகளில், வேதனையோடு வலம் வருபவை, அணுகுண்டுத் தாக்குதல்கள். ஆம், 1945ம் ஆண்டு, ஆகஸ்ட் 6, 9 ஆகிய இரு நாட்கள், ஜப்பானின் ஹிரோஷிமா, நாகசாகி ஆகிய இரு நகரங்களில், அமெரிக்க ஐக்கிய நாட்டு அரசு, அணுகுண்டுகளை வீசி, பல்லாயிரம் அப்பாவி மக்களைக் கொன்றது. இக்கொடுமையால் இறந்தோரின் நினைவாக உருவாக்கப்பட்ட ஹிரோஷிமா அமைதிப்பூங்காவில், "Let all the souls here rest in peace; For we shall not repeat the evil" அதாவது, "அனைத்து ஆன்மாக்களும் இங்கு அமைதியில் இளைப்பாறட்டும்; ஏனெனில், தீமையை மீண்டும் செய்யமாட்டோம்" என்ற சொற்கள், கல்லில் செதுக்கப்பட்டுள்ளன.

1945ம் ஆண்டுக்குப்பின், அணுகுண்டுகளை வீசி, மக்களை நேரடியாகக் கொல்லும் தீமை நடைபெறவில்லை, உண்மைதான். ஆனால், அணுகுண்டு சோதனைகள், பூமிக்கடியிலும், கடலுக்கடியிலும் நடத்தப்பட்டு, அதன் ஆபத்தான விளைவுகளை, பூமித்தாயும், அப்பாவி மனிதர்களும் இன்றும் சந்தித்து வருகின்றனர். அணுசக்தியை, குண்டுகளாக மாற்றி, அழிவுக்குப் பயன்படுத்துவதை நிறுத்திவிட்டு, அந்தச் சக்தியை, பிற சக்திகளாக மாற்றும் அணு உலைகளை உலக அரசுகள் நிறுவின. இங்கும், அழிவுகள் தொடர்கின்றன.

ஹிரோஷிமா, நாகசாகி அணுகுண்டு (1945) அழிவுகள், செர்னோபிள், (1986) புக்குஷிமா (2011) அணு உலை விபத்துகள் ஆகியவற்றைக் கண்ட பின்னரும், நமது அரசுகள், அணுசக்தியை இன்னும் நம்பியுள்ளனவே என்ற கவலையை, இறைவனிடம் ஏந்திவருகிறோம், இந்த ஞாயிறு வழிபாட்டில்.

அணுசக்தியை, அணுஉலைகளைப் பற்றிய சிந்தனைகள், ஒரு ஞாயிறு வழிபாட்டிற்கு தேவையா என்ற கேள்வி எழலாம். நம் வாழ்வை, இன்று, பெருமளவில் பாதிக்கும் ஓர் ஆபத்தை, கிறிஸ்தவர்கள் என்ற முறையில், விசுவாசக் கண்ணோட்டத்துடன் சிந்திப்பதற்கு, ஞாயிறு வழிபாடு நல்லதொரு தருணம்.

அணுசக்தியைப் பற்றி, இரு எண்ணங்களை நாம் இன்று அலசுவது பயனளிக்கும். அணு சக்தியை காப்பாற்ற, அரசுகள், மக்களிடம் பொய்களைக் கூறி ஏமாற்றுகின்றன என்பது, முதல் எண்ணம். அணுசக்தியின் ஆபத்துக்களைப் பற்றிய உண்மைகள், மக்களிடமிருந்து மறைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளன என்பதற்கு, வரலாற்று சான்றுகள் பல உள்ளன. ஹிரோஷிமா, நாகசாகியில் அமெரிக்க அரசு அணுகுண்டுகளை வீசியபோது, மனசாட்சியுள்ள பல்லாயிரம் அமெரிக்க மக்கள் சங்கடமான கேள்விகளை எழுப்பினர். அவர்களது குரலை அடக்கியவர்கள், James Conant, Harvey Bundy, Henry Stimson என்ற மூவர். இரண்டாம் உலகப்போரை முடிவுக்குக் கொண்டுவர, அணுகுண்டு தாக்குதல்கள் தேவைப்பட்டன என்று, இம்முவரும், அரசின் சார்பில் பேசி, மக்களை நம்பச்செய்தனர். ஆயினும், அன்றுமுதல், இன்றுவரை, அமெரிக்க மக்கள், அந்தப் பொய்யை, சீரணிக்கமுடியாமல் தவிக்கின்றனர்.

அணுகுண்டு தாக்குதல்களைப் பற்றி பொய்கள் சொல்லப்பட்டதுபோல், உலகில் உள்ள அணுஆயுதங்களைப் பற்றியும் பல்லாயிரம் பொய்களை அரசுகள் சொல்லி வருகின்றன. உலகில் உள்ள அணு ஆயுதங்களைப் பயன்படுத்தினால், இந்த உலகை ஐந்து முறைக்கும் அதிகமாக நாம் அழிக்கலாம் என்று கூறப்படுகிறது. "இவ்வுலகை முற்றிலும் அழிப்பதற்கு, எங்களிடம் உள்ள 3 அல்லது 4 குண்டுகள் போதும்" என்று தன் அணு ஆயுத சக்தியைப் பற்றி சென்ற ஆண்டு வடகொரியா அறிவித்ததைக் கேட்டபோது, நாம் வேதனையில், வெந்துபோனோம். யார் பலசாலி என்று பறைசாற்ற விரும்பும் பள்ளிச் சிறுவர்களைப் போல், இரு நாட்டின் அரசுத்தலைவர்கள், தங்களிடம் உள்ள அணு ஆயுதங்களைப்பற்றி, கடந்த ஆண்டு, ஊடகங்களில், பொறுப்பற்ற முறையில், அறிவிப்புக்கள் விட்டதைக் கண்டு, உண்மையிலேயே கலங்கி நின்றோம்.

உலகை அழிப்பதற்கு அணு ஆயுதங்கள் மட்டும் போதாதென்று, உலகின் பெரும்பாலான நாடுகள், அணு உலைகளைக் கட்டிவருகின்றன. அரசுகள் அமைத்துவரும் அணு உலைகளைப் பற்றியும், இதுவரை, அணு உலைகளில் ஏற்பட்டுள்ள விபத்துக்களைப் பற்றியும் ஏகப்பட்ட பொய்கள் தொடர்ந்து கூறப்படுகின்றன. தமிழகத்தின் கூடங்குளத்தில் உருவாக்கப்பட்டுள்ள அணுமின் நிலையத்தைப்பற்றிய முழு விவரங்களையும் வெளிப்படுத்துமாறு மக்கள் போராடினர். முழு விவரங்களும் இதுவரைச் சொல்லப்படவில்லை. கூடங்குளத்தில் மட்டுமல்ல, உலகின் அனைத்து நாடுகளிலுமே, அணு உலைகளைப்பற்றியும், அவற்றில் நிகழ்ந்துவரும் விபத்துக்கள் குறித்தும், முழு உண்மைகள் மக்களிடமிருந்து மறைக்கப்பட்டு வருகின்றன. அணுசக்தியை உலகில் காப்பாற்ற வேண்டுமெனில், பொய்யையும் நாம் கண்ணும்கருத்துமாய் காப்பாற்ற வேண்டியிருக்கும்.

இவ்வளவு ஆபத்தான அணுசக்தி நமக்குத் தேவைதானா? மாற்று சக்திகளை நாம் பயன்படுத்த முடியாதா? என்ற கேள்விகள், நமது இரண்டாவது எண்ணத்தை ஆரம்பித்து வைக்கின்றன. அணுசக்திக்கு மாற்றாக, எத்தனையோ வகை இயற்கைச் சக்திகளை நாம் பயன்படுத்தமுடியும். நீர், காற்று, சூரியஒளி என்ற அனைத்தையுமே நாம் சக்திகளாக மாற்றமுடியும். அவ்விதம் நாம் உருவாக்கும் இயற்கைச் சக்திகளைக்கொண்டு, நமது தேவைகளை, நாம் நிறைவு செய்துகொள்ளலாம். அதில் சந்தேகமேயில்லை. ஆனால், கட்டுக்கடங்காமல் வளர்ந்திருக்கும் நமது பேராசைகளை  நிறைவு செய்யும் ஆற்றல், இந்தச் சக்திகளுக்குக் கிடையாது. இதுதான் பிரச்சனை.

பேராசைகளை நீக்கிவிட்டு, தேவைகளை மட்டும் நிறைவுசெய்யும் எளிமையான வாழ்வை ஒவ்வொருவரும் பின்பற்றினால், நமக்கு இத்தனை பொருட்கள் தேவையில்லை. தேவையற்றப் பொருட்களை உருவாக்கும் தொழிற்சாலைகள் தேவையில்லை. அத்தொழிற்சாலைகளை இயக்கும் அணுசக்தியும் தேவையில்லை. எப்போது நாம், தேவைகளை மட்டும் தீர்த்துக்கொள்ளும் மனிதர்களாக வாழ்வதற்குப் பதில், பேராசை வெறியர்களாய் மாறினோமோ, அப்போது, அந்த வெறிகளைத் தீர்க்க, இயற்கைச் சக்திகளைத் தாண்டி, அணுசக்தியைத் தேடினோம். பேராசை வெறியால் நாம் திரட்டிவைத்துள்ள செல்வங்களைக் காக்க, அணு ஆயுதங்களையும் உருவாக்கினோம்.

இயற்கைச் சக்திகளைக் கொண்டு வாழமுடியும் என்று சிந்திப்பது, 21ம் நூற்றாண்டில் வாழும் நமக்கு ஒத்துவராத கனவு என்று பலர் நினைக்கலாம். இயற்கைச் சக்திகளை நம்பி வாழ்ந்தால், கற்காலத்திற்குத் திரும்பவேண்டியிருக்கும் என்ற எண்ணம் நம்மில் ஆழமாகப் பதிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளதால், இயற்கைச் சக்திகளைக் குறித்த எண்ணத்தை, நாம் எள்ளி நகையாடலாம். ஆனால், முன்னேற்றம் என்ற பெயரில், உருவாகி வரும் பல பிரச்சனைகளின் ஆணிவேர், கட்டுக்கடங்காத நமது பேராசைகள் என்றும், அடுத்தத் தலைமுறையைப்பற்றி கவலை ஏதுமின்றி, சுற்றுச்சூழலையும், பூமிக்கோளத்தையும் நிரந்தரமான ஆபத்துக்கு உள்ளாக்குகிறோம் என்றும் பல உலகக் கருத்தரங்குகளில் பேசிவருகிறோம். நாம் வளர்த்துக்கொண்டுள்ள பேராசைகள், நம்மை முன்னோக்கி அழைத்துச் செல்கின்றனவா என்பது கேள்விக்குறியே! அணு ஆயுதங்களுக்கு எதிராக ஆரம்பத்திலிருந்து கண்டனக்குரல் எழுப்பிவந்த, அறிவியல் மேதை ஆல்பர்ட் ஐன்ஸ்டைன் அவர்கள், நாம் செல்லும் முன்னேற்றப்பாதையைக் குறித்து சொன்ன கருத்து இப்போது நினைவுக்கு வருகிறது: “I do not know with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones.” - Albert Einstein "மூன்றாம் உலகப்போரில் எவ்வகை ஆயுதங்கள் பயன்படுத்தப்படும் என்பது எனக்குத் தெரியாது. ஆனால், நான்காம் உலகப்போரில், கழிகளும் கற்களும் பயன்படுத்தப்படும்."

அணு உலைகள் என்ற கோவில்களைக் கட்டி, அணுசக்தியை வழிபடும் நமது பேராசை வெறிகளை நீக்கிவிட்டு, தேவைகளை மட்டும் நிறைவேற்றிக்கொள்ளும் எளிய வாழ்வை நாம் அமைத்துக் கொள்ளமுடியும் என்று கனவு காண்பதில் தவறில்லையே! இந்தக் கனவை நமக்குள் விதைப்பவை, இன்றைய ஞாயிறு வாசகங்கள்.

எல்லா உயிரினங்களுக்கும் அடிப்படைத் தேவையாக இருக்கும் பசியைப்பற்றி முதல் வாசகமும், நற்செய்தியும் பேசுகின்றன. வேற்று உயிரினங்கள் தங்கள் அடிப்படைத் தேவைகள் நிறைவுற்றால், அமைதியாக வாழும். ஆனால், மனிதர்கள் மட்டும் தங்கள் அடிப்படைத் தேவைகள் நிறைவேறினாலும், நிறைவேற்றமுடியாத தங்கள் பேராசையைத் தீர்ப்பதற்கு, வேறு வழிகளை, குறிப்பாக, குறுக்கு வழிகளைத் தேடுவர்.

சில ஆண்டுகளுக்குமுன், ஓர் அழகான குறும்படம் வெளியானது. இரு சிறுத்தைகளும் ஒரு மானும் இப்படத்தின் நாயகர்கள். இருசிறுத்தைகள், ஒரு மான் என்றதும், நம்மில் பலர், இந்தக் கதையின் முடிவை, ஏற்கனவே எழுதி முடித்திருப்போம். பாவம், அந்த மான். இரு சிறுத்தைகளும் அந்த மானை அடித்துக்கொன்று சாப்பிட்டிருக்கும் என்ற முடிவுக்கு வந்திருப்போம். ஆனால், அக்காட்சியில் நாம் காண்பது, நம்மை ஆனந்த அதிர்ச்சியில் ஆழ்த்துகிறது. அவ்விரு சிறுத்தைகளும், மானும், அழகாக விளையாடுவதாக, அங்கு காட்டப்பட்டுள்ளது. அந்த அற்புத காட்சியின் இறுதியில், திரையில் தோன்றும் வரிகள் இவை: "மிருகங்களுக்குப் பசியில்லாதபோது, வன்முறையும் இல்லை. மனிதர்கள் மட்டும் ஏன் காரணம் ஏதுமின்றி வன்முறைகளில் ஈடுபடுகின்றனர்?" என்ற கேள்வியுடன் அந்தக் குறும்படம் முடிவுறுகிறது.

பசி என்பது ஓர் அடிப்படைத் தேவை. அந்தத் தேவை நிறைவேறியபின், நாம் நிம்மதி அடைய வேண்டும். ஆனால், மனிதர்கள் நிறைவும், நிம்மதியும் அடைவதென்பது மிக, மிக, மிக அரிதாகிவிட்டது. நிம்மதி அடைவதற்குப் பதில், வேண்டும், இன்னும் வேண்டும் என்ற வெறியை நாம் வளர்த்துவருவதாலேயே, நாம், இத்தனைப் பிரச்சனைகளைச் சந்திக்கிறோம். தீராத வன்முறைப் பசியை இளையோரில் வளர்க்கும் சுயநலத் தலைவர்களை, இளையோர் விரைவில் அடையாளம் கண்டுகொள்வது, வருங்காலத்திற்கு நல்லது.

இன்றைய முதல் வாசகத்தில், பசியால் வாடும் இஸ்ரயேல் மக்கள், இறைவனுக்கும், மோசேக்கும் எதிராக முணுமுணுப்பதைக் காண்கிறோம். இறைவன் மோசே வழியாக அம்மக்களுக்குத் தரும் பதிலுரை இதுதான்:

விடுதலைப்பயண நூல் 16: 4

“இதோ பார்! நான் உங்களுக்காக வானத்திலிருந்து அப்பத்தைப் பொழியப் போகிறேன். மக்கள் வெளியே போய்த் தேவையானதை அன்றன்று சேகரித்துக்கொள்ள வேண்டும். என் கட்டளைப்படி நடப்பார்களா இல்லையா என்பதை நான் இவ்வாறு சோதித்தறியப் போகிறேன்.”

இறைவன் தந்த இக்கூற்றில், தேவையானதை அன்றன்று சேகரித்துக்கொள்ள வேண்டும் என்ற சொற்கள் நம் கவனத்தை ஈர்க்கின்றன. வாக்களிக்கப்பட்ட நாட்டில் வளமுடன் வாழ்வது எவ்வாறு என்பதைப்பற்றியப் பாடங்களை, இறைவன், பாலைநிலத்தில், தன் மக்களுக்குச் சொல்லித்தந்தார். சொல்லித்தந்த பாடங்களை அவர்கள் பயின்றனரா என்பதைப் பரிசோதிக்க, தேர்வும் வைத்தார். இம்மக்கள் தங்கள் தேவைகளை மட்டும் நிறைவுசெய்து வாழும் மக்களாக இருப்பார்களா, அல்லது, பேராசையால் அதிகம் சேர்த்துவைக்கும் மக்களாக இருப்பார்களா என்பதே, இறைவன் தந்த முதல் சோதனை. இச்சோதனையில் வென்றவரும் உண்டு, தோற்றவரும் உண்டு. அடுத்த நாளுக்குச் சேர்த்தவர்களின் உணவு, புழுவைத்து, நாற்றமெடுத்தது என்று, இதே 16ம் பிரிவின் பிற்பகுதியில் (வி.பயணம் 16:20) நாம் வாசிக்கிறோம்.

அன்றும் சரி, இன்றும் சரி... தேவைக்கும் அதிகமாகச் சேர்த்துவைப்பது, மனிதர்கள் மத்தியில் ஒரு நோயாக உருவெடுத்துள்ளது. சேர்த்துவைப்பதையே ஒரு நோய் என்று சொன்னால், மலைபோல் குவித்துவைப்பதை என்னென்று சொல்வது? குவித்துவைக்கும் தீராத நோயில் சிக்கித்தவிக்கும் பல நாட்டுத் தலைவர்களை, தலைவிகளைப் பற்றி நாம் கேள்விப்படும் செய்திகள் நம்மை வேதனையில் நிறைக்கின்றன. பல்லாயிரம் காலணிகளை, நகைகளை, புடவைகளைச் சேர்த்துவைத்த ஒரு தலைவி, பஞ்சு மெத்தையில், பஞ்சுக்குப் பதிலாக, பணக்கட்டுக்களைப் பதுக்கிவைத்திருந்த அரசியல் தலைவர், குளிக்கும் தொட்டியைத் தங்கத்தில் செய்திருந்த ஓர் அரசுத் தலைவர்... என்று, வரலாறு கூறும் இந்த பட்டியல், மிக நீளமானது. இத்தலைவர்களின் பேராசை நோயினால், நாட்டு மக்கள், முக்கியமாக வறியோர் அடையும் துன்பங்கள் ஏராளம்.

சேகரித்து வைக்கும் பேராசை நோய் பல்வேறு அளவுகளில் நம் ஒவ்வொருவரிலும் உள்ளது. இந்த நோயின் பக்கநோயாக இருப்பது, குறுக்கு வழியைத் தேடும் நோய். இந்த நோயைப்பற்றி இன்றைய நற்செய்தியில் நாம் வாசிக்கிறோம். தன்னைத் தேடிவந்த மக்களைப்பார்த்து இயேசு கூறும் சொற்கள், நாம் அனைவரும் குறுக்கு வழியை விரும்புகிறவர்கள் என்பதை நமக்கு நினைவுறுத்துகின்றன.

யோவான் நற்செய்தி 6: 24-26

 “நீங்கள் அரும் அடையாளங்களைக் கண்டதால் அல்ல, மாறாக, அப்பங்களை வயிறார உண்டதால்தான் என்னைத் தேடுகிறீர்கள் என உறுதியாக உங்களுக்குச் சொல்கிறேன்” என்று இயேசு அன்று கூறிய எச்சரிக்கை, குறுக்கு வழிகளில் சுகம் தேடும் அனைவருக்கும் தரப்படும் எச்சரிக்கை. குறுக்கு வழிகள் என்ற மாயையையும், பேராசை வெறிகளையும் போக்குவதற்கு இயேசு சொல்லித்தரும் ஓர் அழகான வழி இதோ:

யோவான் நற்செய்தி 6: 27

அழிந்துபோகும் உணவுக்காக உழைக்க வேண்டாம். நிலைவாழ்வு தரும் அழியாத உணவுக்காகவே உழையுங்கள். அவ்வுணவை மானிடமகன் உங்களுக்குக் கொடுப்பார்.

பேராசை வெறிகளைக் களைந்து, தேவைகளை மட்டும் தீர்த்துக்கொள்ளும் பக்குவத்தை நாம் பெறவும், நம் தேவைகளை இறைவன் தீர்ப்பார் என்ற நம்பிக்கையை வளர்த்துக்கொள்ளவும் இந்த ஞாயிறு வழிபாட்டில் உருக்கமாக மன்றாடுவோம். தேவைகளைப் பெருக்கி, பேராசை வெறியர்களாக நாம் மாறினால், ஆண்டவனை ஒதுக்கிவைத்துவிட்டு, அணுசக்திக்குக் கோவில் கட்டி கும்பிட வேண்டியிருக்கும், எச்சரிக்கை!!!

இறுதியாக, ஓர் எண்ணம். ஆகஸ்ட் 5, இஞ்ஞாயிறன்று, இந்தியத் திருஅவை, இளையோர் ஞாயிறைக் கொண்டாடுகிறது. "இளையோர், நம்பிக்கை மற்றும் இறையழைத்தலைத் தேர்ந்து தெளிதல்" என்ற மையக்கருத்துக்களுடன் கொண்டாடப்படும் இந்நாளில், இளையோர், நம்பிக்கையில் வளரவும், இறைவன் விடுக்கும் அழைப்பிற்கு செவிமடுக்கும் தாராள மனதைப் பெறவும் செபிப்போம்.
