The Magi and the Star
of Bethlehem
The Feast of the Epiphany
The month of January
is named after Janus, the Roman god with two faces – one looking back and the
other looking forward. Most of us do not wish to look back on 2020. Our New
Year wish to one another was: “No more 2020”! 2020 began with the bush fires in
Australia. These fires were an extension of the fires that were sweeping across
California and Amazon in 2019. By the time these fires more or less subsided
around March 2020, the whole world was burning with COVID-19. Looking back at
the burning 2020, reminds us of the episode in Genesis – when the Angel of the
Lord tells Lot and his family ‘to flee for their life and not to look back’ at
the burning cities, Sodom and Gomor′ra (Gen. 19:17). We are also reminded of how Lot’s wife ‘looked back,
and she became a pillar of salt.’ (Gen. 19:26).
With quite a few
months of lockdown, we were at the mercy of the media feeding us with news of
the virus and other related disasters. In the last week of December ‘the
looking back’ exercises taken up by the media almost made us turn into pillars,
with a sense of hopelessness. Against, this situation, last Sunday we thought
about Abraham who was invited by the Lord to “Look up at the sky and
count the stars” (Gen.15:5).
This week, we are
invited not only to look up at the sky, but to ‘follow a star’ as did
the wise men from the East. (Matthew 2:1-12) Let us begin our reflection on
these wise men with a story from a collection of the lives of saints - the
saints of Islam - which concerns a king of Balkh, named Ebrahim ibn Adam.
Ebrahim was wealthy according to every earthly measure. At the same time,
however, he sincerely and restlessly strove to be wealthy spiritually as well. One
night the king was roused from sleep by a fearful stumping on the roof above
his bed. Alarmed, he shouted: 'Who's there?' 'A friend,' came the reply from
the roof. 'I've lost my camel.' Perturbed by such stupidity, Ebrahim screamed:
'You fool! Are you looking for a camel on the roof?' 'You fool!' the voice from
the roof answered. 'Are you looking for God in silk clothing, and lying on a
golden bed?' Those simple words filled the king with such enlightenment,
that he arose from his sleep to become a remarkable saint.
Being clothed in silk
and lying on a golden bed are not the most apt modes to search for God. Today’s
Feast - the Feast of the Epiphany - helps us to learn some basic lessons on how
to search for God. Although this Feast is mainly about Jesus revealing himself
to the whole world, still, popularly, the main characters of this feast are the
so called ‘Magi’. Very little is known about these persons (Kings? Wise men?
Astrologers?) in the Bible. Only Matthew’s Gospel talks about these persons.
But, their effort in following the star has inspired countless men and women to
‘follow the star’ in their lives.
Following a star is
possible only at night. Stars are not visible during the day. This means that
these wise men must have done most of their journey at night – not an easy
option given their mode of transport etc. It must have been very difficult to
gaze upon one little star among the hundreds, on a clear sky. What if the sky
was not clear? Then they would have to wait until clouds and mist clear. So,
their journey must have taken nights… many nights. Still, they persisted. What
a resolve! Resolutions are part and parcel of every New Year! What better way
to begin the New Year with the feast of ‘the wise men’ who can be honoured as
‘patrons of resolutions’!
Nowadays, the phrase
‘following a star’ is, unfortunately, misinterpreted as following a star-personality.
In India ,
more unfortunately, we have too many of these stars, especially in the cine
field and in cricket. The amount of time and energy wasted by the fans on these
‘stars’ and ‘super-stars’ is shocking to say the least. By the time these fans
learn that ‘following these stars’ lead them nowhere, it is rather too late. If
only the typical Indian fan can take a new year resolution to treat cinema and
cricket as only entertainments!
The Gospel of Matthew
(2: 1-12) says that these wise men were from the East. They were probably
experts in astrology – namely, the study of stars. Hence, when they saw this
new star, they were able to predict the birth of a King. Their study led them
further. They decided to follow the star and meet the King.
Unfortunately, there
are some experts who are king-makers by studying the star in which one is born.
In general, most of the political leaders in Asia
seem to trust their stars rather than trust their people. Naturally, people
also don’t seem to trust them!
Why blame political
leaders, who have only one aim in their life – to stay in power? Most of us
abdicate our power to the stars attached to our birth. What these stars predict
each week, tends to influence our decisions to a large extent. Should we allow
stars and planets to influence our lives so much? We set aside time to read
‘stars foretell’ columns in the papers. But, how many of us have the time to
look up at the sky and contemplate the beauty of the stars?
For us living in the
21st century, there seems to be no time to look to the heavens to gaze upon
stars. We are dazzled and even blinded by too many artificial stars and hence
real stars have receded from our view. We hardly look up. Or, possibly, we look
up to the skies only when dark clouds gather. We look up to the skies with a
question: Will it rain? Similarly, when dark clouds gather in our hearts, we
again look up to the skies with the famous clichéd question: Is there a God up there? Doubts drive us to
look up, whether they are doubts about rain or pain.
When the wise men
followed the star, doubts were raging in their hearts too. But, they were
driven more by desire than by doubts and hence could reach their destination. For
our generation to which patience and persistence seem to have become obsolete
words, the wise men have a lot to teach! This alone is reason enough to
celebrate!
There is one more
reason to celebrate these wise men who have introduced us to the larger family
of God. Last Sunday we celebrated the Feast of the Holy Family. This Sunday we
are celebrating God’s extended family. Yes… this is the core message of the
Feast of the Epiphany. This Feast tells us one basic truth about God. God is
not a private property of any human group. As far as God is concerned, the
larger the family, the better… the more, the merrier!
This idea must have
shocked quite a few orthodox Jews. They were very sure that the one and only
true God was theirs, EXCLUSIVELY. God must have laughed at this idea; but in
His/Her parental love, God would have allowed them to hold on to this
‘exclusivism’. God waited for the opportune time. By inviting the wise men from
the East to visit the Divine Babe at Bethlehem, God had broken the myth of
exclusivism! A true iconoclast, indeed!
God cannot be the
exclusive property of any human group. This message is still very relevant to
us, especially in the light of all the divisions created by various individuals
and groups who have used God and religion as a political weapon. God is surely
not party to any divisive force! Unifying, reconciling… these are God’s ways.
Let us pray on the Feast of the Epiphany that the whole human family may live
together as one inclusive, divine family!
We began our reflection
with our feeling of reluctance to look back on 2020. Janus has the other face ‘looking
forward’. Let us look forward to a bright and beautiful 2021, filled with
Blessings. Every year, on the very first day of the year, our liturgy of the
Feast of Mary, Mother of God, gives us an opportunity to learn how we can bless
others. The first reading of the Feast taken from the Book of Numbers gives us
an account of God teaching Moses how he and Aaron and all the priests should bless
the people:
The Lord said to
Moses, “Say to Aaron and his sons, Thus, you shall bless the people of Israel:
you shall say to them: ‘The Lord bless you and keep you: The Lord make his face
to shine upon you, and be gracious to you: The Lord lift up his countenance
upon you, and give you peace.’ So, shall they put my name upon the people of
Israel, and I will bless them.” (Numbers 6:22-27)
Giving blessings is
not an exclusive privilege of the priests. Every one of us is called to bless. If
we can use the words of blessings that God had taught Moses, on one another, our
families and our human family will be filled with blessings. In blessing
others, we become blessed ourselves!
May 2021 be filled
with blessings from above and from one another, as well as, with brilliant
stars that lead all of us to God!

நாள்காட்டியின்படி, ஆண்டின் முதல் மாதம், Janus என்ற உரோமையத் தெய்வத்தின் பெயரால், ஜனவரி (சனவரி) என்றழைக்கப்படுகிறது.
ஜானுஸ் தெய்வத்திற்கு இரு முகங்கள்
உள்ளன. ஒரு முகம், பின்னோக்கிப் பார்ப்பதுபோலவும், மற்றொரு முகம் முன்னோக்கிப் பார்ப்பதுபோலவும்
இவ்விரு முகங்களும் அமைந்திருக்கும். கடந்துவந்த ஆண்டைப் பின்னோக்கிப் பார்க்கவும், புலர்ந்திருக்கும் புத்தாண்டை முன்னோக்கிப்
பார்க்கவும், ஜானுஸ் தெய்வம் நினைவுறுத்துவதால், ஆண்டின் முதல் மாதத்திற்கு, அந்தத் தெய்வத்தின் பெயர் வழங்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.
கடந்துவந்த
2020ம் ஆண்டை பின்னோக்கிப் பார்க்க,
நமக்குள்
தயக்கங்கள் எழுவதை உணர்கிறோம். ஆஸ்திரேலியாவின் பல பகுதிகளில் எரிந்துகொண்டிருந்த காட்டுத்தீயுடன்,
2020ம் ஆண்டு ஆரம்பமானது. அந்த நெருப்பு மார்ச் மாதத்தையொட்டி குறைந்துவந்த வேளையில், கோவிட்-19 பெருந்தொற்று என்ற நெருப்பு, அனைத்து நாடுகளிலும் பற்றியெரிந்தது.
காட்டுத்தீ, கொள்ளைநோய் என்ற நெருப்புகளால் பற்றியெரிந்த
இவ்வாண்டை திரும்பிப் பார்ப்பது, தொடக்க நூலில் கூறப்பட்டுள்ள
ஒரு நிகழ்வை, நினைவுக்குக் கொணர்கிறது. சோதோம், கொமோரா நகரங்கள் பற்றியெரிந்தபோது, அவற்றைத் திரும்பிப் பார்க்காமல் செல்லும்படி,
லோத்தின் குடும்பத்தினருக்கு, இறைவனின் தூதர் கட்டளையிட்டார் (தொ.நூ. 19:17). ஆனால், அந்தக் கட்டளைக்குக் கீழ்படியாமல், லோத்தின்
மனைவி, திரும்பிப்
பார்த்தபோது, உப்புத்தூணாக மாறினார் (தொ.நூ. 19:26) என்று தொடக்க நூலில்
வாசிக்கிறோம்.
கொள்ளைநோய், மரணம், வேலை இழப்பு, பஞ்சம், முழு அடைப்பு, கறுப்பின மக்களின் போராட்டம், விவசாயிகள் போராட்டம், நீதிக்காக குரல் எழுப்பியோரின் சிறைவாசம்
என்று, பல வழிகளிலும் பற்றியெரிந்த
2020ம் ஆண்டைத் திரும்பிப் பார்க்கும்போது, நாமும், தூண்களாக உறைந்துபோக வாய்ப்புண்டு. வேதனை, வெறுப்பு, விரக்தி, கசப்பு, கோபம் என்ற உணர்வுகளை ஊட்டும் செய்திகளை
ஒவ்வொருநாளும் வெளியிட்டு, செயலற்றுபோன தூண்களாக,
நம்மை, வீட்டில் அடைத்துவைக்க, ஊடகங்கள் மேற்கொண்ட முயற்சிகளை நாம் அறிவோம்.
இத்தருணத்தில், ஊடகங்கள் காட்டும் நம்பிக்கையற்ற உலகைக்
காணப்போகிறோமா, அல்லது, வெளியே சென்று, வானத்தை, நிமிர்ந்து
பார்க்கப்போகிறோமா என்ற கேள்வியை, சென்ற ஞாயிறு எழுப்பியதைப்
போலவே, இந்த ஞாயிறும் எழுப்புகிறோம்.
வெளியே சென்று "வானத்தை நிமிர்ந்து
பார். முடியுமானால், விண்மீன்களை
எண்ணிப்பார்" (தொ.நூ. 15:5) என்று, சென்ற ஞாயிறு, ஆபிராமுக்கு ஆண்டவர் அழைப்பு விடுத்தார்.
அந்த அழைப்புக்குச் செவிமடுத்த ஆபிராம், நம்பிக்கை
கொண்ட பல தலைமுறைகளுக்கு தந்தையான ஆபிரகாமாக மாறினார்.
அத்தகையதோர்
அழைப்பு இந்த வார வழிபாட்டிலும் நம்மை வந்துசேருகிறது. விண்மீனைக் கண்டு, அது காட்டிய வழியில் பயணம் மேற்கொண்ட கீழ்த்திசை
ஞானிகள் வழியே இந்த அழைப்பு நமக்குத் தரப்பட்டுள்ளது.
பல
நூறு ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன், ஆப்கானிஸ்தானின் வடபகுதியில்,
பால்க் (Balkh) நாட்டை ஆட்சி செய்த மன்னர் இப்ராகிம், அளவற்ற செல்வங்களால் சூழப்பட்டிருந்தார்.
அதேவேளை, அவர், ஆன்மீக உண்மைகளைக் காணும் முயற்சியிலும்
ஈடுபட்டிருந்தார்.
ஒருநாள்
இரவு, பட்டாடை அணிந்து, தங்கக்
கட்டிலில் படுத்தவண்ணம், கடவுளை எங்கு
காணமுடியும் என்பதைப்பற்றி சிந்தித்துக்கொண்டிருந்தார், மன்னர். அப்போது, அரண்மனையின் கூரையில் யாரோ நடந்து செல்வதுபோல்
சப்தம் கேட்டது. அரசர் உடனே, "யாரங்கே?" என்று கத்தினார். "உங்கள் நண்பன்"
என்று, கூரையிலிருந்து பதில்
வந்தது. "இந்த இரவு நேரத்தில் என் கூரைமீது என்ன செய்துகொண்டிருக்கிறாய்?" என்று மன்னர் எரிச்சலுடன் கேட்க, "தொலைந்துபோன என் ஒட்டகத்தைத் தேடிக்கொண்டிருக்கிறேன்"
என்று பதில் வந்தது.
மதியற்ற
அந்தப் பதிலைக் கேட்டு, மேலும் எரிச்சலடைந்த மன்னர், "முட்டாளே! தொலைந்துபோன ஒட்டகத்தை, என் கூரைமீது தேடிக்கொண்டிருக்கிறாயா?" என்று ஏளனமாகக் கேட்டார். உடனே, "முட்டாளே! பட்டாடை அணிந்து, தங்கக்கட்டிலில் படுத்துக்கொண்டு, நீ கடவுளைத் தேடிக்கொண்டிருக்கிறாயா?" என்ற கேள்வி, கூரையிலிருந்து ஒலித்தது.
பட்டாடை
அணிந்து, தங்கக்கட்டிலில் படுத்துக்கொண்டு, இறைவனைத் தேடுவது கடினம். இறைவனைத்
தேடிக் கண்டுபிடிக்க, கடினமான, ஆபத்தான பயணங்களை மேற்கொள்ள
வேண்டியிருக்கும். இந்த உண்மையை உணர்த்தும் திருநாளை, இன்று நாம் கொண்டாடுகிறோம்.
புத்தாண்டின்
முதல் ஞாயிறன்று நாம் கொண்டாடும் திருக்காட்சிப் பெருவிழா, இறைவனைத் தேடிக் கண்டடையும்
வழிகளை நமக்குச் சொல்லித்தருகிறது. இத்திருநாளன்று, இறைவன் தன்னை உலகமனைத்திற்கும்
வெளிப்படுத்தியதால், இதனை, திருக்காட்சிப் பெருவிழா என அழைக்கிறோம். இறைவன்
தங்களுக்கு மட்டுமே தோன்றுவார் என்று எண்ணிவந்த யூத குலத்தவருக்கு, இந்தத் திருநாளில்
பொதிந்திருக்கும் உண்மை, அதிர்ச்சியைத் தந்திருக்கும். வானத்தூதர் வழியாக, எரியும் புதர் வழியாக தங்களுக்கு மட்டுமே
தோன்றிய இறைவன், இன்று, மற்றவருக்கும் தோன்றினார் என்பது, அவர்களுக்கு அதிர்ச்சியைத்
தந்திருக்கும்.
எந்த
ஒரு மனிதக் குழுவும் தங்களுக்கு மட்டுமே இறைவன் என்று உரிமை கொண்டாடி, அவரை ஒளித்துவைக்க
முடியாது. இறைவன், இந்த உலகத்தினர் அனைவருக்கும் பொதுச்சொத்து. யாருக்கும் தனிப்பட்ட
வகையில் அவர் சொத்தாக மாட்டார். உண்மையில் பார்க்கப்போனால் இந்த உலகமே அவரது சொத்து.
இப்படியிருக்க, இந்த இறைவனைப் பங்கு போட்டு
பிரித்து அதனால், மக்களையும் பிரிக்கும்
பல எண்ணங்கள் தவறானவை என்பதைச் சுட்டிக்காட்டும் விழா, திருக்காட்சிப் பெருவிழா. மக்களைப்
பிரிப்பதற்காக இறைவனை கூறுபோடும் அரசியல் தந்திரங்கள், இந்த புத்தாண்டில் வேரோடு களையப்பட
வேண்டுமென முதலில் வேண்டிக்கொள்வோம்.
மூன்று
அரசர்கள், அல்லது, மூன்று ஞானிகள்
என்று அழைக்கப்படும் நமது விழா நாயகர்கள், கடினமான ஒரு பயணத்தின் இறுதியில்,
கடவுளைக் கண்டனர். இந்த மூன்று ஞானிகள் இயேசுவைச் சந்திக்க வந்த நிகழ்வை, பல கோணங்களில்
சிந்திக்கலாம். விண்மீன்களின் ஒளியில் இந்த ஞானிகள் நடந்தனர் என்றும், இறைவனைச்
சந்தித்தபின் இந்த ஞானிகள் வேறுவழியாகச் சென்றனர் என்றும் நற்செய்தி சொல்கிறது.
நம் வாழ்க்கையை வழிநடத்தும் விண்மீன்கள் எவை என்பதை முதலில் சிந்திக்கலாம். விண்மீன்களின்
துணையோடு, இறைவனைச் சந்தித்தபின், நாம் பின்பற்றவேண்டிய மாற்று வழிகளைப்பற்றி சிந்திக்கலாம்.
விண்மீன்களைக்
கண்டு பயணம் மேற்கொண்ட இந்த ஞானிகள், "கிழக்கிலிருந்து வந்த ஞானிகள்"
என்பது, இன்றைய நற்செய்தி சொல்லும் மற்றுமொரு விவரம்: இந்த ஞானிகள், ஆசியாவிலிருந்து,
ஆப்ரிக்காவிலிருந்து வந்தவர்கள் என்றும், கோள்களை, நட்சத்திரங்களை ஆய்வுசெய்த அறிஞர்கள்
என்றும், சில விவிலிய விரிவுரையாளர்கள் விளக்கமளித்துள்ளனர்.
உலகின்
பல நாடுகளில், குறிப்பாக, இந்தியா போன்ற ஆசிய நாடுகளில், கோள்களை, நட்சத்திரங்களை, வைத்து, பல முடிவுகள் எடுக்கப்படுவதை
நினைத்துப்பார்க்கலாம். கோள்களையும், நட்சத்திரங்களையும்,
வாழ்க்கையின் வழிகாட்டிகள் என்று நம்பி, நம்மையும், நம் குடும்பங்களையும், சில வேளைகளில்,
நாட்டையும் வழிநடத்தும் பொறுப்பை, நட்சத்திரங்களை வைத்து வியாபாரம் செய்யும் சோதிடர்களிடம்
விட்டுவிடுகிறோமா என்ற ஆய்வை, ஆண்டின்
துவக்கத்தில் மேற்கொள்வது நல்லது. கோள்களையும், நட்சத்திரங்களையும் நம்பி வாழ்வதற்குப் பதில், நட்சத்திரங்களை உருவாக்கிய இறைவனையும், அவர்
காட்டும் வழிகளையும், நம்பிவாழ்வது, எவ்வளவோ
மேல் என்பதை, இத்திருவிழா நமக்குச் சொல்லித்தருகிறது.
இந்த
மூன்று ஞானிகள், விண்மீன் வழியே வந்த
அழைப்பை ஏற்று, இறைவனைத் தேடி, பயணத்தை மேற்கொண்டனர்.
விண்மீன் இரவில் மட்டுமே கண்ணுக்குத் தெரியும். பகலில் தெரியாது. எனவே, இந்த ஞானிகள்,
இரவு நேரங்களில் தங்கள் பயணத்தை அதிகம் செய்திருக்கவேண்டும். போக்குவரத்து வசதிகள்
அதிகம் இல்லாத அக்காலத்தில், இரவில் மேற்கொள்ளும் பயணங்கள்
எளிதல்ல. பல இரவுகள், மேகங்களும், பனிமூட்டமும் அந்த விண்மீனை
மறைத்திருக்கும். அந்நேரங்களில், மேகமும், பனியும்
விலகும்வரைக் காத்திருந்து, மீண்டும் விண்மீனைப் பார்த்து, தங்கள் பயணத்தை அவர்கள்
தொடர்ந்திருக்க வேண்டும். எத்தனை எத்தனை இரவுகள், எத்தனை எத்தனை இடர்பாடுகள்? அத்தனையின் மத்தியிலும்,
ஒரே குறிக்கோளுடன், பல்லாயிரம் மைல்கள் பயணம்செய்த அந்த ஞானிகளின் மனஉறுதி நமக்கெல்லாம்
நல்லதொரு பாடம்.
நாம் வாழும் அவசர உலகில், விண்மீன்களைப் பார்ப்பது மிகவும் அரிது.
நம்மில் பலர் வாழ்வது நகரங்கள் என்பதால், அங்கு இரவும் பகலும் எரியும் செயற்கை விளக்குகளின்
ஒளிவெள்ளம், விண்மீன்களை மூழ்கடித்துவிடுகின்றது. வானத்தை நிமிர்ந்து
பார்க்கக்கூட நமக்கு இப்போது நேரமில்லை. எப்போது வானத்தைப் பார்ப்போம்? மேகங்கள் திரண்டு வரும்போது, "ஒருவேளை மழை வருமோ?" என்ற சந்தேகப் பார்வையோடு வானத்தைப் பார்ப்போம்.
கருமேகம் சூழும்போது, சந்தேகத்தோடு நிமிர்ந்து
வானத்தைப் பார்க்க பழகிவிட்ட நாம், உள்ளத்தில் கருமேகங்கள் சூழும்போதும், கடவுள் என்ற
ஒருவர் இருக்கிறாரா என்பதைத் தெரிந்துகொள்ள, மீண்டும் வானத்தைச் சந்தேகத்தோடு பார்க்கிறோம்.
சந்தேகம் என்பது, கறுப்புக் கண்ணாடி போன்றது. கறுப்புக் கண்ணாடியை அணிந்துகொண்டால், பார்ப்பது எல்லாமே கருமையாகத்தானே தெரியும்.
சந்தேகம் வரும்போது மட்டும் வானத்தைப் பார்த்தால், அங்கே கருமேகங்கள் மட்டுமே தெரியும். அந்தக்
கருமேகங்களுக்குப் பின்னிருந்து, கண்சிமிட்டும் விண்மீன்கள் தெரியாது. அந்த விண்மீன்கள்
கொடுக்கும் அழைப்பும் நமக்குப் புரியாது.
நட்சத்திரங்கள், ‘ஸ்டார்’கள் என்ற சொல், மனதில் ஒருசில எண்ணங்களை
ஏற்படுத்துகின்றது. இந்தியாவில், குறிப்பாக, தமிழகத்தில், திரை உலகில் பல 'ஸ்டார்'களை உருவாக்கி, கடவுளுக்கு இணையான ஓர் இடத்தை அவர்களுக்குக்
கொடுக்கும் பல்லாயிரம் இளையோரை இந்நேரத்தில் எண்ணிப்பார்க்கத் தோன்றுகிறது. இந்த ‘ஸ்டார்’களின் செயற்கை ஒளியை, உண்மை ஒளியென்று
நம்பி, அதைச்சுற்றி வட்டமிட்டு, தங்கள் வாழ்வை அழித்துக்கொள்ளும் விட்டில் பூச்சிகளாக
வாழும் இரசிகர்களை நினைத்து வேதனையாய் இருக்கிறது.
தமிழ் திரையுலகில் 'ஸ்டார்'ஆக வலம்வரும் ஒரு நடிகர், அரசியலில் நுழையப் போவதாக அண்மையில் அறிவித்தார்.
பின்னர், விலகிக்கொண்டார். இந்தச் செய்தியைக் கேட்டு, கொண்டாடியவர்களும் உண்டு, திண்டாடியவர்களும் உண்டு. தமிழகத்தின் அரசியல், கடந்த பல ஆண்டுகள், திரையுலகத்தினரின் கரங்களில் சிக்கி, சீரழிந்துள்ளது என்பது, வேதனை நிறைந்த
உண்மை. 'ஸ்டார்'களை நம்பி, தங்கள் வாழ்வை அடகுவைக்கும் இரசிகர்கள்,
குறிப்பாக, இளையோர், தங்கள் மயக்கத்திலிருந்து விழித்தெழவேண்டும் என்று மன்றாடுவோம்.
விண்மீன்
காட்டிய பாதையில் சென்று, இறைவனைக் கண்ட ஞானிகள், அதன்பின், தங்கள் கனவின் வழியே கடவுள் தந்த எச்சரிக்கைக்கு
செவிமடுத்து, வாழ்க்கைப் பாதையையே மாற்றிக்கொண்டனர். இந்த ஞானிகளைப்போல், எத்தனையோ
நல்ல உள்ளங்கள் இறைவனைச்
சந்தித்தபின், தங்களையும், தங்களைச்
சுற்றியிருந்த உலகத்தையும் மாற்றியிருக்கிறார்கள். உறுதியான உள்ளத்துடன் விண்மீன்களைத்
தொடர்ந்து, இறைவனைக் கண்ட ஞானிகளைப்
போல், இப்புத்தாண்டின் துவக்கத்தில்,
நாமும் இறைவனைக் காணவும், அவரிடம் மற்றவர்களை அழைத்துவரும்
விண்மீன்களாய்த் மாறவும், தேவையான இறையருளை வேண்டுவோம்.
இறுதியாக ஓர் எண்ணம் – புத்தாண்டு நாளையொட்டி
தமிழர்கள் பகிர்ந்துகொள்ளும் ஒரு திரைப்படப் பாடலின் பல்லவி, ஆண்டின் ஒவ்வொரு நாளுமே நமக்கு நல்ல நாளாக
அமைவதற்கு வழியைச் சொல்கிறது.

ஆண்டு தேதிக்குத் தேதி ஆயிரம் இருக்குது சுப தினம்

நலத்தை நினைப்பவர் தமக்கு ஆயுள் முழுவதும் சுப தினம்
அடுத்தவர் நலத்தை முன்னிலைப்படுத்தாமல், நான், எனது குடும்பம் என்று, நம் உள்ளங்களை, குறுக்கிவிட்ட 2020ம் ஆண்டு, நம் முகங்களில் ஒரு கவசத்தை மாட்டிவிட்டது.
கோவிட்-19 என்ற கடிவாளத்தைக் கொண்டு, நம் எண்ணங்களை, நோய், மரணம் என்ற குறுகிய வட்டத்திற்குள் சிறைப்படுத்திவிட்டது.
புலர்ந்திருக்கும் புதிய ஆண்டில், நாம், இந்த கவசத்தையும், கடிவாளத்தையும் கழற்றி எறிந்துவிட்டு, கனிவு, கரிசனை ஆகிய உணர்வுகளால் நம் உள்ளங்களை நிறைத்துக்கொள்ள
இறைவனை வேண்டுவோம்.
ஆண்டவர் நமக்கு ஆசி வழங்க, எப்போதும் காத்திருக்கிறார்
என்பதை உணர்த்த, ஒவ்வோர் ஆண்டும், சனவரி 1ம் தேதி, மரியா, இறைவனின் தாய்
என்ற பெருவிழாவன்று, நாம் சிறப்பிக்கும் திருப்பலியில் ஒலிக்கும் முதல் வாசகம் நமக்கு
உதவியாக உள்ளது. ஆண்டின் முதல் நாள் திருப்பலியில் நாம் கேட்ட முதல் வாசகம் ஆசி நிறைந்த
சொற்களால் நிறைந்துள்ளன. மோசே, ஆரோன் மற்றும் ஏனைய இறைப்
பணியாளர்கள், இஸ்ரயேல் மக்களுக்கு ஆசி
வழங்கும்போது அவர்கள் கூறவேண்டிய சொற்கள் என்ன என்பதை இறைவனே சொல்லித்தருகிறார்: ஆண்டவர்
மோசேயிடம் கூறியது: நீங்கள் இஸ்ரயேல் மக்களுக்கு
ஆசிகூற வேண்டிய முறை: "ஆண்டவர் உனக்கு
ஆசி வழங்கி உன்னைக் காப்பாராக! ஆண்டவர் தம் திருமுகத்தை உன்மேல் ஒளிரச்செய்து உன்மீது
அருள் பொழிவாராக! ஆண்டவர் தம் திருமுகத்தை உன் பக்கம் திருப்பி உனக்கு அமைதி அருள்வாராக!" (எண்ணிக்கை 6:22-26)
இறைவன் சொல்லித்தந்துள்ள இந்த ஆசிமொழிகளை, புலர்ந்திருக்கும் இவ்வாண்டில், நாம் சந்திக்கும் ஒவ்வொருவருக்கும் வழங்குவதற்கு கற்றுக்கொள்வோமாக!
ஆசிமொழிகளை வழங்கும் நாம் ஆசியால் நிறைவோம் என்பது உறுதி!
