4th Sunday in Ordinary Time
Fr. Charlie was
teaching children in the Sunday school. He asked the children, "If I sold
my house and my car, and gave all my money to the church, would that get me
into Heaven?" "NO!" the children answered. "If I did all my
priestly duties well, and practiced the beatitudes in my life, would that get
me into Heaven?" the Pastor asked. Again, the answer was, "NO!"
"Well, then, if I was kind to animals and gave candy to all the children,
and loved and served my parish, would that get me into Heaven?" Again, the
answer was, "NO!" "Well", he continued, "then how can
I get into Heaven?" Five-year-old little Johnny shouted out, "First,
you have to die.”
Well, little Johnny
seemed to know better than Fr Charlie. But what Johnny said is not the FULL
TRUTH. For those of us who believe that Heaven comes after our death, little Johnny’s
answer would sound very right. But, Heaven need not come after death. It can
come even while we are living on earth. Today’s readings, especially the
Beatitudes in today’s Gospel say so. If we have a clear understanding of what
‘Heaven’ is, then life on earth would become heavenly.
Most of us, when we
were little kids like Johnny, associated Heaven to a place. As we grew older,
we began to understand that Heaven is more a state of life, than a space…a
state of fullness, fulfilment, plenitude. This sense of fulfilment brings Joy,
Bliss, and Happiness. The word ‘Happiness’ brings to mind quite a few thoughts.
One of the basic questions about happiness is whether we go after happiness or
does happiness come after us? Many of us remember the famous quote by Nathaniel
Hawthorne: “Happiness is a butterfly, which when pursued, is always just
beyond your grasp, but which, if you will sit down quietly, may alight upon
you.”
The choice between
running after happiness or allowing happiness to come after us, reminds us of
the wisdom story of a cat chasing after happiness. The wise old cat noticed
a kitten chasing its tail. "Why are you chasing your tail so?" asked
the wise old cat. The kitten replied, "I have learned that the best thing
for a cat is happiness, and happiness is my tail. Therefore, I am chasing it;
and when I catch it, I shall have happiness." The wise old cat said,
"My son, I too have paid attention to the problems of the universe. I too
have judged that happiness is in my tail. But, I noticed that whenever I chase
after it, it keeps running away from me, and when I go about my business, it
just seems to come after me wherever I go."
There are many such
stories talking about how we chase after or pursue happiness. Here is another
lovely story about where to look for, or, not to look for happiness. A man was walking along a dirty canal
filled with muddy water. As he crossed a spot, he stopped abruptly. His eyes
fell on something sparkling in the canal. It seemed like an ornament. Mustering
some courage, he stretched out his hand in the muddy water and tried to get the
ornament. He could not get it. He ventured into the waist deep slush and tried
again. No success. He plunged into the canal completely to get the sparkling
jewel. He came up with more mud and filth. As he was emerging from the filth, a
sage walked by. Looking at his plight, he asked him what he was searching for.
The man was afraid of divulging the secret, lest the sage would take the jewel
by magic and walk away. Since the sage insisted on helping him, he reluctantly
showed him the sparkling object. The sage told him: “Perhaps you are looking at
the wrong place. Look elsewhere. Look up. You may find your treasure.” With
that, the sage left the scene. All this time, the man was standing under a tree
and did not even notice it. When the sage asked him to look up, he did so. To
his great, pleasant surprise, a sparkling diamond chain was dangling from one
of the branches. All this time, he was chasing the reflection of that chain in
the muddy waters.
Happiness, or, in
Christ’s words, Blessedness is the core of today’s readings. This Sunday
onwards, until we begin the Lenten season, for four
Sundays, we are given a special treat during the Sunday Liturgy – namely, we
are given passages from the Sermon on the Mount as our Gospel reading. Today’s
Gospel gives us the opening section of this great discourse of Jesus, namely,
the famous ‘Beatitudes’! The Readings today – especially, the first reading (Zephaniah
2: 3; 3: 12-13) and the Gospel (Matthew 5:1-12) – are very
good, very clear and very inspiring. It would be beneficial to all of us, that
apart from having listened to these readings during the liturgy today, we set
aside some special time during the day and read these passages slowly. Here
they are:
Zephaniah 2: 3; 3: 12-13
Seek the LORD,
all you humble of the land, you who do what he commands. Seek righteousness,
seek humility; perhaps you will be sheltered on the day of the LORD’s anger.
I will leave
within you the meek and humble. The remnant of Israel will trust in the name of
the LORD. They will do no wrong; they will tell no lies. A deceitful tongue
will not be found in their mouths. They will eat and lie down and no one will
make them afraid.
Imagine a place or a
human group where no wrong is done, no lie spoken, where people can lie down in
peace with nothing to fear… Isn’t that Heaven?
While the
contemporaries of Jesus thought that being rich and powerful were the signs of
God’s blessings and a sure guarantee to enter heaven, Jesus began his list of
blessings, saying that the poor, the powerless (the meek), the merciful and the
peacemakers will inherit the earth as well as the kingdom of heaven.
Matthew
5:1-12
Jesus… said:
Blessed are the
poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are
those who mourn, for they will be comforted.
Blessed are the
meek, for they will inherit the earth.
Blessed are
those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.
Blessed are the
merciful, for they will be shown mercy.
Blessed are the
pure in heart, for they will see God.
Blessed are the
peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.
Blessed are
those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of
heaven.
Blessed are you
when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against
you because of me. Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven,
for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.”
“Beatitudes are not the map of a life in another world, but the map of
another life in this world” said Jacques Pohier, the theologian. The Blessings that Jesus articulated
on the mountain in the form of the Beatitudes, have inspired thousands of noble
persons. One of them is Mohandas Gandhi, who later on was hailed as Mahatma
Gandhi. To him, as well as to many other great stalwarts like Martin Luther
King Jr., Dorothy Day, Nelson Mandela and Archbishop Romero, the Beatitudes
were the manifesto of non-violence. It is apt that on the eve of Gandhi’s
assassination, which is commemorated on January 30th, this passage is given to
us for our reflection.
This year, on
January 30, a special event will take place in India. The ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’
(Unite India March) led by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi which started from
Kanyakumari on September 7, 2022, is scheduled to culminate in Srinagar on
Monday, January 30, with the hoisting of the national flag. The main objective
of this ‘yatra’ is to protest against the politics of "fear, bigotry and
prejudice", and the economics of livelihood destruction, increasing
unemployment and growing inequality. The movement is intended to unite the
country against the "divisive politics" of the present BJP
government. We pray that the ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ may create some positive
vibrations among the Indians, especially the youth, and inspire us to create
heaven on earth through the beatific virtues like – meekness, hunger and thirst
for righteousness, mercy, purity of heart, peacemaking etc.
Rabindranath Tagore,
the great poet, dreamt of a heaven for India and the world. We close our
reflections making the prayerful dream of Tagore our own:
Where the mind
is without fear and the head is held high
Where
knowledge is free
Where the
world has not been broken up into fragments by narrow domestic walls
Where words
come out from the depth of truth
Where tireless
striving stretches its arms towards perfection
Where the
clear stream of reason has not lost its way into the dreary desert sand of dead
habit
Where the mind
is led forward by thee into ever-widening thought and action
Into that heaven
of freedom, my Father, let my country awake.
பொதுக்காலம் 4ம் ஞாயிறு
பங்குத்தந்தை ஒருவர் குழந்தைகளுக்கு மறைகல்வி வகுப்பு நடத்திக்
கொண்டிருந்தார். "குழந்தைகளே, என்கிட்டே இருக்கிற எல்லாப் பொருட்களையும் வித்து, அந்தப் பணத்தை ஏழைகளுக்கு நான் கொடுத்தா, நான் மோட்சத்துக்கு, விண்ணகத்துக்குப் போகமுடியுமா?" என்று கேட்டார்.
குழந்தைகள் 'கோரஸ்'ஆக "முடியாது" என்று சொன்னார்கள். பங்குத்தந்தைக்கு ஆச்சரியம், குழப்பம்.
"சரி, நம்ம பங்குல இருக்கிற
எல்லா நோயாளிகளுக்கும் நான் தினமும் மருந்து, மாத்திரை எல்லாம்
குடுத்து கவனிச்சிக்கிட்டா, நான் விண்ணகத்துக்குப் போக முடியுமா?" என்றார். அவர் கேள்வியை முடிப்பதற்குள், "முடியாது"
என்று குழந்தைகள் கத்தினர்.
"எல்லாக் குழந்தைகளுக்கும் நான் தினமும் சாக்லேட், மிட்டாய், பொம்மை எல்லாம் குடுத்தா?" என்று கேட்டார். மீண்டும் குழந்தைகள் "முடியாது"
என்றே சொன்னார்கள். பங்குத் தந்தைக்குப் பெரிய அதிர்ச்சி.
"சரி, அப்ப நான் விண்ணகத்துக்குப்
போக என்ன செய்யணும்?"
என்று அவர்களையேக் கேட்டார். ஒரு சிறுமி எழுந்து நின்று, "நீங்க விண்ணகத்துக்குப் போகணும்னா, முதல்ல சாகணும்"
என்று, கள்ளம் கபடமற்ற ஒரு புன்னகையுடன் சொன்னாள்.
பங்குத் தந்தைக்குத் தெரியாத ஒரு மிகச்சாதாரண உண்மையை அந்தக்
குழந்தை அன்று அவருக்குச் சொல்லித் தந்தாள். ஆனால், அது முழு உண்மை
அல்ல என்பதை நாம் உணர்வதற்கு இன்றைய ஞாயிறு வாசகங்கள் நமக்கு இன்னும் சில பாடங்களைச்
சொல்லித் தருகின்றன. விண்ணகம் என்பது, இறந்தபின் நமக்குக் கிடைக்கும் பரிசு என்று எண்ணுபவர்களுக்கு இக்குழந்தை சொன்னது
உண்மையாகப் படலாம். ஆனால், விண்ணகம் என்பது மண்ணகத்திலேயே சாத்தியம் என்பதை இயேசுவும், இன்னும் பல இறைவாக்கினர்களும், புனிதர்களும் சொல்லிச்
சென்றுள்ளனர். வாழ்ந்தும் காட்டியுள்ளனர்.
இந்த ஞாயிறு முதல், தவக்காலத்தின் துவக்கம் வரை உள்ள நான்கு ஞாயிறு திருப்பலிகளில், இயேசு வழங்கிய மலைப்பொழிவிலிருந்து நற்செய்தி
வாசகங்களை கேட்கவிருக்கிறோம். இப்பகுதிகள், தவக்காலத்திற்கு நம்மை தயாரிப்பதற்கு உதவியாக இருக்கும் என்பது உறுதி. இன்றைய
நற்செய்தியில், மலைப்பொழிவின் அறிமுகப் பகுதியாக இயேசு கூறும் 'பேறுபெற்றோர்'
என்ற ஆசியுரைகள், மண்ணகத்தில் விண்ணகத்தை உருவாக்க
இயலும் என்ற உண்மையை ஆணித்தரமாகக் கூறுகின்றன. Jacques Pohier என்ற இறையியலாளர் கூறிய ஒரு கூற்று இது: "இயேசு மலைப் பொழிவில் 'பேறுபெற்றோர்' என்று கூறிய கருத்துக்கள், மறு உலக வாழ்வைப்பற்றிய வழிகாட்டிகள்
அல்ல; இவ்வுலகில் நாம் வாழக்கூடிய மறு வாழ்வைப்பற்றிய வழிகாட்டிகள்." “Beatitudes are not the map of
a life in another world, but the map of another life in this world.”
விண்ணகம் என்பது என்ன என்பதை நாம் புரிந்து கொண்டால், நாமும் பல தெளிவுகளைப் பெறலாம். சிறுவயதில் விண்ணகம் என்ற சொல்லைக்
கேட்டதும், அதை ஓர் இடமாக கற்பனை செய்திருக்க வாய்ப்பு உண்டு. ஆனால், வயதில் வளர, வளர, விண்ணகம் ஓர் இடம் அல்ல, அது ஒரு வாழ்வுநிலை என்ற
உண்மையைப் புரிந்துகொள்ள முயல்கிறோம். விண்ணகம் என்பது,
அடிப்படையில், முழுமை அடைவது, நிறைவு பெறுவது என்ற ஆழமான எண்ணங்களை உள்ளடக்கியது. அந்த
முழுமையில், நிறைவில் நாம் அதிகம் அனுபவிப்பது ஆனந்தம். ஆனந்தம், மகிழ்ச்சி என்று சொன்னதும், நம் மனதில் பல எண்ணங்கள் ஒரே நேரத்தில் அலைமோதுகின்றன. முதல்
எண்ணம்... ஆனந்தம்,
மகிழ்வு ஆகியவை நம்மைத் தேடி வருமா, அல்லது நாம் அவற்றைத் தேடிப் போகவேண்டுமா என்ற கேள்வி. "மகிழ்வு ஒரு
வண்ணத்துப் பூச்சி. அதை நாம் துரத்திச் செல்லும்போது, அது நம்மைவிட்டு விலகிச் செல்கிறது. நாம் அமைதியாக அமர்ந்திருக்கும்போது, அது நம் தோள்மீது வந்து அமரும்" என்று சொன்னவர், Nathaniel Hawthorne என்ற எழுத்தாளர்.
மகிழ்வைத் தேடி அலைவது பற்றி பல கதைகள் சொல்லப்படுகின்றன.
தன் வாலில்தான் மகிழ்ச்சி உள்ளதென்று தன் வாலையே நாள் முழுவதும் துரத்திப் பிடிக்க
சுற்றிச்சுற்றி வந்த குட்டிப்பூனையிடம், "மகிழ்வு என் வாலில்
இருக்கிறது என்பதை அறிந்த நானும் உன்னைப்போல சிறு வயதில் என் வாலை துரத்திக்கொண்டே
இருந்தேன். ஆனால், என் வாலில்தான் மகிழ்ச்சி இருக்கிறதென்றால், அதை நான் துரத்த
வேண்டாம். என் வேலைகளை நான் ஒழுங்காகச் செய்தால், மகிழ்வு எப்போதும்
என்னைத் தொடர்ந்து வரும் என்பதை பின்னர் உணர்ந்தேன்" என்று தாய் பூனை சொன்னதாம்.
இது ஒரு கதை.
தவறான இடங்களில் மகிழ்வைத் தேடுகிறோம் என்பதைக் கூறும்
மற்றொரு கதை இதோ. அகன்ற ஒரு சாக்கடைக்கருகே ஒருவர் நடந்து கொண்டிருந்தார். நாற்றம்
தாங்காமல் மூக்கைப் பிடித்துக்கொண்டு நடந்த அவர் திடீரென நின்றார். அவர் கண்களில்
ஒளி. அந்தச் சாக்கடையில் ஏதோ ஒன்று பளீரென ஒளிர்ந்தது. உற்றுப் பார்த்தபோது, அது ஒரு வைரநகை போலத் தெரிந்தது. கரையில் நின்றபடி, கைகளை மட்டும் சாக்கடையில் விட்டு அதை எடுக்க முயன்றார். முடியவில்லை. அடுத்து, சாக்கடையில் இடுப்பளவு ஓடிய அந்த அழுக்கு நீரில் நின்று தேடினார். ஒன்றும் கிடைக்கவில்லை.
மீண்டும் கரையேறி வந்து பார்த்தபோது, அந்த நகை அதே இடத்தில்
பளிச்சிட்டது. அடுத்து, மனதைத் திடப்படுத்திக் கொண்டு, அந்தச் சாக்கடையில் முற்றிலும் மூழ்கித் தேடினார். ஊஹும்.. ஒன்றும் பயனில்லை.
விரக்தியுடன் அவர் சாக்கடையை விட்டு வெளியேறிய அந்த நேரம், ஒரு முனிவர் அந்தப் பக்கம் வந்தார். "எதைத் தேடுகிறீர்கள்? எதையாவுது தவற விட்டுவிட்டீர்களா?" என்று கேட்டார்.
நகையைப்பற்றிச் சொன்னால், முனிவர் அதை எடுத்துக்கொள்வாரோ என்று பயந்து, அவர் பேசத் தயங்கினார். அவரது தயக்கத்தைக் கண்ட முனிவர், தான் அவருக்கு உதவி மட்டுமே செய்யப்போவதாக வாக்களித்தார். சாக்கடையில் மூழ்கி
எழுந்தவர் முனிவரிடம் சாக்கடைக்குள் தான் கண்ட அந்த நகையைச் சுட்டிக்காட்டினார். அதை
எடுக்க தான் எடுத்த முயற்சிகளையும் கூறினார். முனிவர் அவரிடம், "நீங்கள் ஒருவேளை தவறான இடத்தில் அந்த நகையைத் தேடுகிறீர்கள் என்று நினைக்கிறேன்.
வேறு இடத்தில் தேடுங்கள். கீழே மட்டும் பார்க்காதீர்கள். மேலேயும் பாருங்கள்."
என்று சொல்லிவிட்டு,
அந்த இடத்தைவிட்டுச் சென்றார். முனிவர் சொன்னபடி மேலே பார்த்தவருக்கு
ஆனந்த அதிர்ச்சி. அவர் நின்ற இடத்தில் ஒரு மரம். அம்மரத்தின் கிளையில் அந்த நகை தொங்கிக்
கொண்டிருந்தது. அதுவரை அவர் அந்த நகையின் பிம்பத்தை உண்மை நகை என்று எண்ணி சாக்கடைக்குள்
தேடிக் கொண்டிருந்தார்.
உண்மையான மகிழ்வு, ஆனந்தம் இவற்றைத்
தேடுவதற்குப் பதில்,
மகிழ்வின் மாய பிம்பங்களை நம்மில் எத்தனை பேர் தேடுகிறோம்? நம்மில் எத்தனை பேர் தவறான இடங்களில் மகிழ்வைத் தேடுகிறோம்? மகிழ்வேன்று நினைத்தவை மறைந்து போகும்போது, நம்மில் எத்தனை
பேர் மனமுடைந்து, தவறான முடிவுகளை எடுத்திருக்கிறோம்?
இன்றைய வழிபாட்டு வாசகங்கள் உள்ளத்தின் நிறைவை, வாழ்வின் நிறைவை அடையும் வழிகளைச் சொல்கின்றன. இந்த நிறைவை அடைய, மரணம்வரை, அந்த மரணத்திற்குப்பின் வரும் விண்ணகம்வரை காத்திருக்கத் தேவையில்லை. இந்த மண்ணகத்தை
விண்ணகமாக்கும் வழிகள், சக்தி நம்மிடமே உள்ளன என்பதை இன்றைய வாசகங்கள்
தெளிவாக்குகின்றன.
இந்த ஞாயிறுக்குரிய வாசகங்களை திருப்பலி நேரத்தில்
கேட்டு பயனடைவதோடு நின்றுவிடாமல், இல்லத்திற்கு திரும்பியபின், இன்றைய நாளில், ஒரு
சில மணித்துளிகளை ஒதுக்கிவைத்து, அமைதியாக, ஒருவித தியானநிலையில்
வாசித்துப் பயனடைய உங்களை அழைக்கிறேன்.
இறைவாக்கினர் செப்பனியா 2:3; 3:12-13
நாட்டிலிருக்கும் எளியோரே! ஆண்டவரின் கட்டளையைக் கடைப்பிடிப்போரே!
அனைவரும் ஆண்டவரைத் தேடுங்கள்; நேர்மையை நாடுங்கள்; மனத்தாழ்மையைத் தேடுங்கள்.
ஏழை எளியோரை உன் நடுவில் நான் விட்டுவைப்பேன்: அவர்கள் ஆண்டவரின்
பெயரில் நம்பிக்கை கொள்வார்கள். இஸ்ரயேலில் எஞ்சியோர் கொடுமை செய்யமாட்டார்கள்: வஞ்சகப்
பேச்சு அவர்களது வாயில் வராது: அச்சுறுத்துவார் யாருமின்றி, அவர்கள் மந்தைபோல் மேய்ந்து இளைப்பாறுவார்கள்.
ஏழை, எளியோர் நாட்டில்
இருப்பதால், அங்கு விளையும்
நன்மைகளைக் கூறுகிறார் இறைவாக்கினர் செப்பனியா. ஏழை, எளியோர் வாழும் நாட்டில் கொடுமைச் செயல்கள், வஞ்சகப் பேச்சு, அச்சம்
எதுவுமிராது. பாகுபாடுகள் ஏதும்
இல்லாமல், அனைவரும் பந்தியமர்ந்து உண்டபின் அனைவரும் ஒன்றாய் இளைப்பாறும் ஒரு நாடு
அது. அத்தகைய ஒரு நாடு, மண்ணகத்தில் உருவாகக்கூடிய விண்ணகம்தானே!
இன்றைய
நற்செய்தியிலும் ஏழை, எளியோர் உயர்த்திப் பேசப்படுகின்றனர். செல்வமும், புகழும் பெற்றிருப்பது இறைவன் வழங்கும் ஆசீர்
என்றும், இவற்றை பெற்றிருப்போர்
விண்ணகத்தில் நுழைவது உறுதி என்றும் இயேசுவின் காலத்தில் வாழ்ந்த இஸ்ரயேல் மக்கள் எண்ணி
வந்தனர். அவர்களது எண்ணங்களை தலைக்கீழாக புரட்டிப்போடும் வண்ணம் இயேசு தன் மலைப்பொழிவில்,
வறியோரை, துயருறுவோரை, சக்தி அற்றோரை, விண்ணகத்திற்கு உரியவர்கள் என்று கூறினார்.
மத்தேயு நற்செய்தி 5: 1-10
இயேசு... திருவாய் மலர்ந்து கற்பித்தவை:
ஏழையரின் உள்ளத்தோர் பேறுபெற்றோர்; ஏனெனில் விண்ணரசு அவர்களுக்கு உரியது. துயருறுவோர் பேறுபெற்றோர்; ஏனெனில் அவர்கள் ஆறுதல் பெறுவர். கனிவுடையோர் பேறுபெற்றோர்; ஏனெனில் அவர்கள் நாட்டை உரிமைச்சொத்தாக்கிக் கொள்வர். நீதி நிலைநாட்டும் வேட்கை
கொண்டோர் பேறுபெற்றோர்; ஏனெனில் அவர்கள்
நிறைவு பெறுவர். இரக்கமுடையோர் பேறுபெற்றோர்; ஏனெனில் அவர்கள் இரக்கம் பெறுவர். தூய்மையான உள்ளத்தோர் பேறுபெற்றோர்; ஏனெனில் அவர்கள் கடவுளைக் காண்பர். அமைதி ஏற்படுத்துவோர் பேறுபெற்றோர்; ஏனெனில் அவர்கள் கடவுளின் மக்கள் என அழைக்கப்படுவர். நீதியின் பொருட்டுத் துன்புறுத்தப்படுவோர்
பேறு பெற்றோர்; ஏனெனில் விண்ணரசு அவர்களுக்குரியது.
மலைப்பொழிவில் இயேசு பகர்ந்த 'பேறுபெற்றோர்' என்ற இப்பகுதி, பலருடைய உள்ளங்களில்
ஆழப்பதிந்து, அவர்களை உன்னத மனிதர்களாக மாற்றியுள்ளது. அவர்களில் ஒருவர் மோகன்தாஸ்
காந்தி. இரக்கமுடையோர், அமைதி ஏற்படுத்துவோர், நீதியின் பொருட்டுத் துன்புறுத்தப்படுவோர், ஆகியோரை வரிசைப்படுத்தி, வன்முறையற்ற அகிம்சை வழியால் இவ்வுலகை விண்ணகமாக்க முடியும் என்பதை ஆணித்தரமாக
பறைசாற்றிய இயேசுவை, தன் மானசீகத் தலைவராக ஏற்றுக்கொண்டவர் மகாத்மா காந்தி. அவரைப்
போலவே, மார்ட்டின் லூத்தர் கிங் ஜூனியரையும் அதிகம் கவர்ந்த விவிலியப் பகுதி, மலைப்பொழிவு.
அகிம்சை வழியை உலகில் வாழ்ந்து காட்டிய மகாத்மா காந்தி, குண்டுக்குப் பலியான
நிகழ்வை, நாளை, சனவரி 30ம் தேதி, நாம்
நினைவுகூருகிறோம். அடிப்படைவாதி ஒருவனின் குண்டுக்கு, அகிம்சைவாதியான காந்தி
பலியான நாளுக்கு முந்தைய நாள் அவர் மனதைக் கவர்ந்த மலைப்பொழிவை கேட்கும் ஒரு

இறுதியாக ஓர் எண்ணம். இவ்வாண்டு, மகாத்மா காந்தி கொலையுண்ட நாளான சனவரி 30ம் தேதியன்று, இந்தியாவில், சிறப்பானதொரு
நிகழ்வு திட்டமிடப்பட்டுள்ளது. காங்கிரஸ் கட்சியின் தலைவர்களில் ஒருவரான இராகுல் காந்தியின்
தலைமையில், சென்ற ஆண்டு செப்டம்பர் மாதம் தமிழ்நாட்டின் கன்னியா குமரியில் துவங்கிய ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ (Unite
India March) என்ற ஊர்வலம், நாளை, சனவரி 30ம் தேதி ஜம்மு காஷ்மீரின் ஸ்ரீநகரில் நிறைவடைகிறது.
மதம், இனம், மொழி, சாதி என்ற பல்வேறு பிளவுகளை இன்னும் ஆழப்படுத்தும் வண்ணம், வெறுப்புணர்வுகளை
ஊட்டி வளர்க்கும் இன்றைய அரசின் பிரித்தாளும் தந்திரங்களுக்கு ஒரு சவாலாக, 'இந்தியாவை ஒருமைப்படுத்தும்
நடைப்பயணம்' என்ற பெயருடன், ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ என்ற முயற்சி மேற்கொள்ளப்பட்டுள்ளது. இந்த முயற்சியினால், இந்தியாவின் பல
பகுதிகளில் உருவாகியுள்ள நம்பிக்கை தரும் அதிர்வலைகள், நம்மையும், குறிப்பாக, நம் இளையோரையும்
சென்றடையவேண்டும் என்று மன்றாடுவோம். மதம், இனம், மொழி, சாதி என்ற பிரிவுச் சுவர்களை தகர்த்தெறிந்து இந்தியா ஒருங்கிணைந்தால், அதுவே
நாம் உருவாக்கக் கூடிய விண்ணகம் என்பதை உணர்வோம்.
பல ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன், நம் தேசியக் கவிஞர் இரவீந்திரநாத் தாகூர் அவர்கள் இத்தகைய
கனவை ஓர் இறைவேண்டலாக வெளிப்படுத்தினார். அவருடைய வேண்டுதல் நம் வேண்டுதலாக மாறட்டும்:

மனதில் பயமின்றி தலைதான் உயர்ந்து நிற்கிறதோ
எங்கே
அறிவுச் சுதந்திரத்தால் உண்மைச் சொற்கள் வெளிவருமோ
எங்கே
குறுகிய பிளவுகளால் உலகின் உருவம் சிதையாதோ
எங்கே
தளராப் பெருமுயற்சி முழுமையை நோக்கிச் செல்கிறதோ
எங்கே
பகுத்தறிவு எனும் ஆறு மறைந்து ஒழியும் பழக்கங்களாம்
பாலை
மணலில் பாயாது பயனைத் தேடி மீள்கிறதோ
எங்கே
விரிந்த சிந்தனையால் இன்சொல் நற்செயல் விளைகிறதோ
நினதருள்
அழைத்துச் சென்றிடவே எனதுளம் எங்கே விழைகிறதோ
அந்த
சுதந்திர விண்ணகத்தில் எந்தாய் என் நாடு விழித்தெழுக
